When I was running with other cars in both races I always lost time going into the tunnel, so this probably explains why. It still doesn't feel like a dive to me but if I'm on completely the wrong line it would explain things.
You aren't on the wrong line in QT or TT or free air.

The thing for me is that you were both slow and his wider line isn't "a gap" and then making contact before the long straight isn't ideal.

Edit:

This is a big issue with the racing online, the wider line isn't an invitation.

Too much senna don't for the gap crap exists.

Going in to that space is fine, but recognise they are lining up and on the throttle earlier, you will be on it later to avoid contact. If you even run a car wide with contact or just because you know you have is not cool.

Racing room is racing room and that's why on the good days we can race door to door. On the bad days it's being run wide or punted.

99% of people just race online like racing the AI.

Nobody cares about being a better racer anymore just "faster or A+" 😥

Soap box away now.

I nearly didn’t race because I was hearing bad things from people but I gave it a go anyway and I’m glad I did.
Qually p4 with a solid lap. P1 to P10 was covered by under a second so I was fully expecting to get mugged with the brz’s lack of power early on.
I got away poorly and I had to work hard to catch back up to the leaders. The race became a 3 way battle for the lead with myself mostly in second place. I was loosing 0.5s down the back straight and was really working hard to keep the pressure on p1 and I was having to defend from p3 who didn’t let up either. I’ve taken to defending clearly and early now and it seems to be working quite well.
I managed to take the lead after the final stop and then ran off at sector one (yes we have been here before, sadly). The 3 way battle then became a 4 way battle and then a 5 way battle and I managed to sneak back into p3 right at the end.
An absolutely fantastic race, everybody was really on the limit the whole time and battling hard but smart all the same.
Glad everyone else here generally seemed to have a good night too.

Did a small test at Road Atlanta with the Huracan and it doesn't fill me with optimism. Ran with the softs and got a 1:18.3xx after 8 laps. Optimals were a little below 1:18 but the car is, again, all over the place under braking.

The first round at Dragon Trail was totally fine but on TM and RA it's really unpleasent to drive. Nothing changed and I don't know what's going on here 🤔
Also tested, but with the M6. This is a really awesome track to drive around on, only thing is that my laptimes here suck big times.
Mind you, there are only 4 BMW's in the global top 10 so it might be the car that is the issue....

Been a while since I've been on here...!

Did the first two slots yesterday in the Mazda and was on for quite a nice finish in the first slot, top half which would have netted me something in the high 200s (lobby was 338pts for the win), and then...

To throw a bit of context if it's at all possible, I've seen his name on TT leaderboards, don't think I've ever raced him, have definitely not got 'previous' with him, and there had been nothing going on between us in this race up to this point. So yeah, bit of a loss as to why he did this, let alone how he tried to justify himself afterwards saying he was showing me my behaviour "wouldn't be tolerated"!

So obviously that wrecked slot one, ran slot two but just started and finished 11th for 207, didn't have the pace in the Mazda to get up the field. The guy who wrecked me in slot one though managed to wreck himself (and someone else) again and parked in the pits

Did have a quick go in the BMW on my alt to see how the car was, that thing was massively OP!

It is beyond me how two and a half years into the life cycle of the game PD has not implemented any protection against those players. Meanwhile I am getting banned for calling someone a clown or use the wrong livery that is available for download in the gallery. Shameful!

That's just shameful behaviour on his part. It's a horrible part of the track to try go into 2-wide, but it looked like he squeezed you into the wall so hard he bounced off. That was completely on him!

He's taken the corner as if I was going to stay glued to the wall on the right, and being ahead and on the inside in that scenario, technically, I'd be allowed to push him as wide left as I wanted providing I always left racing room, never even got to push him left because he turned in!

It was far from his only incident though.

This is a few clips from my second race yesterday. I'm curious to see what other people think of the initial contact in the tunnel. When it happened I thought he had slid out then overcompensated and tried to cut me off as I went up the inside, but watching it back from the replay and from both our perspectives I got less sure each time.

The rest of the clip is just the general shambles that followed. If anyone has any suggestions for how to manage the pit lane exit when there are other cars I'd love to hear that too.

On initial view it looks like they drift wide so I can see why you would take the inside line in a split second decision. So if they are consistently going deep as their line they should expect something like that rather than just sweeping back in so I'd call it a racing incident. It then looks like they try to punt you but do not put in a lot of effort. As for the yellow Porsche I can only assume Stevie Wonder was driving.

I'm not sure if he is part of TCR (@Tidgney will know and want to see if he is) but he seems to be well known on Tidge's videos.
He makes a mistake goes into the wall and then takes it out on you. Very childish of them.

He isn't but I'm surprised to see this from him 😭

Far from his only 'mistake' that wrecked someone's race on Saturday either

You'd be even more surprised to see his justifications for doing it and putting total blame on me! Will I see him again in lobbies? Probably, we have similar DR. Will I trust him if we're racing? Absolutely not. And that's always a shame when you can't trust someone in a race

Oh well!

Been doing some practice laps - and a couple mock races - at RA as I like that track.

The Porsche is in its element here. My best lap thus far is a 17.0. More to be had.

GTR feels good as well. Not POrsche good, but it's very predictable. I don't think the gearing is great in the GTR for this track as both the right before the back straight and the right coming out of the last chicane are too slow for 3rd but too fast for 2nd.

Boy oh boy is the Ferrari bad. Mock race laps are like .800" behind the GTR (haven't done on in the Porsche yet)... PER LAP!

Still need to find the limits in the Genny but I might not even bother as I won't be available to play on Sat night.

Being a holiday here in Canada, I had some time to run some tire wear tests. The data is still a bit noisy, but here's how things are shaping up for me in this miserable Suzuki.

For each tire compound, I ran 3 test races: 27 laps on RM, and 14 laps on RS. From those I constructed 'optimal' races, composed of the fastest lap across the tests.

Here are the numbers (from this spreadsheet):
Tire compoundLapsOpt timeBest timeAvg timeAvg devTotal time
RS141:19.4741:19.6931:20.5770:00.57718:48.079
RM271:19.9011:19.9921:21.0180:00.37936:27.487

pubchart

Tread levels at finish:
Tire compoundLapsFront leftFront rightRear leftRear right
RS145%45%25%50%
RM2715%45%30%50%

Using these 'optimum' races, I've simulated all the strategies from 1RS-27RM to 14RS-14RM. As it currently stands, the fastest strategy is 11RS-17RM, with a total time, excluding pit time, of 37:39.438. 12RS-16RM is a very close second at 37:39.465.

Comments and observations:
  • I'm way off anything resembling a competitive pace in this combo. That's probably helping the tires last longer for me. If you are faster -- and you probably are -- I'd recommend doing your own tests to see how the tires hold up for you.
  • For me, there's not much difference between the two tire compounds. Maybe I'm not using them right, but I expected a bigger difference.
  • Apparently, I'm still pretty inconsistent on the track. I might run a few more tests to see if that smooths out the data a little more, but for now it seems like 10-12 laps on the softs is where the sweet spot is for me.

+1 on being careful with the pit lane entry. I am struggling hard with that and I'm expecting to see a lot of penalties for it on Saturday.

I've got very low expectations for this next round. This track just does not work for me at all. I'm really finding turn 3 difficult as it's effectively blind in VR and my overall consistency is poor. Just getting around with no track limit penalties will be a triumph.

The pit exit is nightmare fuel as well, which is kind of alarming considering this track is real! I honestly don't know how to handle that properly.

I need to keep my view locked forward whilst control is handed back to get the VR centred correctly, but I also need to look left immediately to look for incoming cars on the racing line. With how short the pit exit is, there's virtually no time to do it. Trying to take turn 3 is hard enough with a wide line too, never mind approaching it at a tight angle.

It's worst than that, at Atlanta you really need to hold the steering a little to the right to avoid crossing the exit line, all while keeping your head looking dead ahead and looking out for traffic. For the traffic I also make sure I've got the close range radar enabled before I pit.

One tip I picked up watching an A+ driver in an earlier replay, for the pit entry be prepared to instantly abort if you cross the pit entry line. Assuming you've got the flexibility to do an extra lap, It'll cost you a lot less time than serving the penalty.

You aren't on the wrong line in QT or TT or free air.
I'd just like to add that I absolutely am probably on the wrong line in all of those situations. I'm still relatively inexperienced on this version of Trial Mountain and a lot of the middle sector has a lot of wide corners that I just struggled with.

I have even less experience of Road Atlanta so I'm sure nothing bad will happen this Saturday!

He is a well known low level streamer, who seems to have a decent reputation among the GT7 community and fellow streamers like Rory, Super GT and Kie25. What he did there was a reportable offence. Maybe he was having a bad day, but there's no excuse for that.

Road Atlanta is making me hate my choice this season even more. The Lamebo is like driving a bar of soap on an old fashioned washboard. It's bumpy and slippery. Almost think I'll need to do a 2 stopper to be safe. Can't make the full 28 laps on 1 set of RS + RM without killing myself.

To be fair I'd totally forgotten about the report option! Probably because I tend not to have any issues with other racers but yeah this would definitely have been report worthy. What's really irked me though, even more than the incident itself was his refusal to own it when I messaged him on his channel. An apology and saying he was having a bad day or something and I'd have accepted it, but blaming me and saying his take out was justified to teach me a lesson?? Nah! As it is I'm a bit of a dog with a bone now and am coming up with part 2, because to say he had a bad day - on track certainly - is an understatement

There is something in the clock changing or something but the whole of the world seems angry, not petulant but angry and unforgiving.

The amount of streamer punts, murders or just denial is huge this week.

Just a bit weird that it's happening en masse.

I have to agree with you. There seems to be a sense of streamer 'royalty' creeping into the game, and it's being pushed by their subscribers, or pseudo fame by associates. I personally don't care who you are, or how many subs you have, I paid money for this game and I will not yield to someone because they have more subs than I do. I race fair and I despise entitlement. Some of these content creators need to remember that the silent majority are the ones with the power, not them. I won't start mentioning names, but if you know you know.

a tip to anyone not familiar with Road Atlanta; practice your pitstop entry!!
It is very easy to get a penalty for crossing a line entering or exiting the pit or get damage while entering it...

View attachment 1397627
Yeah, that was me every pit stop on the weekly thing (except for the first one, I er, might have thought the pits were on the left and may have gone for an adventure...!)

On the pit stop thing, I would very very much add +1 to the practice of pit entry.

But also, from a tactics perspective, maybe try not to pit if you have someone right on your tail, because the pit entry crosses the optimal racing line (for a lot of drivers). And you will get hit if you slow down.

Quite a lot to think about with this one! Is it worth letting someone right behind you through into the chicane if you're pitting anyway? Will people pay attention to hazard lights down the back straight in the pit stop window?

Will someone brake in the middle of the track because they're going to miss pit entry? (happened against me before!)

This could be carnage tomorrow 😂😂

The last few times it's not been a massive issue traffic wise, in the GT1 and GT2 sharper end lobbies.

The bigger issue is actually the traffic management coming out of the stop as the camera and car are pointing left and you enter on the racing line only fractionally as a ghost.

It's compounded by people trying to set hot in laps need sector 1 to be quick otherwise you are just chasing time the rest of the lap.

My tip would be to take the chicane as normal and just bail/ move early to the right off pace, and for exit focus on blending in and not racing speed so except the slower pace and position switching for the greater good.

10am slot.
Got a good practice time down and set about qualy. Got faster every lap except on the final run when the polesitter decided to come out of the pits with about a minute left. Idiot!
Eventually ended up P10. So a medium to softs run it was.

A Porsche got me into T1. They had a run but nudged me aside all the same. Wasn't too happy.
Predictably the BRZ's acceleration was an achillies heel down the straight and a 4C got past just before the braking zone.
Then T1 and the car just didn't want to turn and I ended up on the grass. Thankfully I kept it straight and got back on DFL but still in touch with those ahead. The next lap there was drama into T1. The Porsche from before who nudged others out of the way two was fighting with a NSX. It nudged the Honda into a half spin but the slowdown caught the 4C by surprise and they finished the spin off and span themselves. The Porsche got off scott free. I got two places. The 4C wasn't held up too much but the NSX took a while to get out of the grass. I was on the tail of another Porsche. I was faster but unable to find a way past. The late great Mr Walker's most famous phrase sums up the BRZ. Catching is one thing, passing is another. By this time the 4C had caught up again and got past into the chicane as before. They got past the Porsche a lap later coming out of the chicane. A Ferrari had spun on the left hander at the end of S1 so up another place. Lap 8 and my pit lap. I had closed up on the Porsche and the 4C who was struggling on worn softs. The Porsche had a wobble through the esses and I was able to finally get past. Both me and the 4C pitted though they were a little slower into the pits than I would like. Cost me a second maybe but I couldn't blame them. I now had an advantage over them tyrewise but they were still faster in a straight line. I followed them closely over the next 3 laps. On two of those they ran wide at the right hander but on neither time picked up a pen. (Using a cheat code?) On the 2nd time I was able to get past.
e378e8ed064df57ba67347d0bca9ed83_photo.webp

Thankfully I kept my position over them. I was faster S1 and they were faster down the straight.
We caught up to a slow Merc but I found a similar issue. The best place to overtake wasn't going to work without other issues. This allowed the 4C to close up again. Lap 13 and I got a better run onto the straight. I was able to actually pull alongside and past into the chicane. Either they gave me the place or they were unusually slow. Two arrows in my radar into T1 had me nervous but I called my speed right and was able to gain through the corner. The 4C also went past the Merc.
From there it was a case of who was faster on a given lap between the 4C as I got the gap to around 3.5 seconds. The gap ahead was around 5 so no chance of gaining there unless something happened. The next 4 cars were together and I suddenly gained a few seconds on them in the last lap. The Porsche from lap 1 was holding them all up causing a bit of chaos. I was hoping for something a bit substantial into the chicane but they got through it o.k. and I crossed the line P7. However after a few seconds on the results screen I jumped to P6 as the Portuguese driver in the Lambo either quit or was disconnected. So P6 in the end for me.
Again the contra strat worked for me and I had a good cat and mouse game with the Croatian in the 4C. Nice and clean too.

I had a good run in GT2, I managed P6 after qualifying in P11.
The plan was to go mediums for 12 laps then do the remaining 8 on softs, but things changed when the group in front of me pitted on lap 12.
I still had good pace so stayed out an extra lap and managed to jump 2 positions on the pit stop.

I was running 1.20’s on a decent lap, but some how managed a flyer on lap 17 with a 1:18.4xx.

It was really fun, a good first day back to racing after a 2 month break.

Good luck today guys.

Won't be racing today now, weather is too nice at this time of year here to be sat indoors and I get S.A.D big time outside of the summer months.

Hopefully being on the wheel from now on will see me drop back down to B level so I can get the morning races in at weekends next time around! Not gonna tank it on purpose though, I just see that happening quite naturally over the next few weeks! It's a real shame GT1 only has the 3 "prime time" slots especially during the football (soccer) season that rules me out of a lot of Saturday's anyway!

Won't be able to make round 4 either so my world series was done after 1 race...oh well 😭😭 wishing everyone the best!
