Did anyone here have a good race yesterday?
Yes. Here. Race before that was even better if I wouldn't have done the tire swap error.
After this disaster I decided to do the late slot as well and try to get a decent finish.

GT2, 101 pt lobby

Couldn't put a really good lap together and qualified 4th.

Decided to start on hards and pit after lap 1. I am usually not that good with tires but the Huracan seems to be a tire saver. I never had any problems after 17 laps of mediums in the 4 races I did.

None of the front 3 used my strategy which meant that I was time trialing for 17 laps now. P1 seemed to drive away from the others the gap between us stayed around 32 seconds most of the race. Does anyone know how much a pit stop loses?

I ask because I am not the only one that can't stick to the rules. Our front runner tried to pit on lap 18 but that doesn't work. Therefore I cruised to an easy win.

I managed to gain more than 10 seconds on all the others. I guess they must have been battling all race.

This was a lot of fun. Guess I will be doing Saturday as well.

No, there is not enough time to do more than an outlap and a flying lap. Everyone gets one shot.

Most people will charge out immediately as usual, so best bet is to wait around 70-80 secs. You'll still have time for the outlap (you need about 2m30 in the dry) but should have lots of clear space.
Hmm I think I will have to go out later, I usually try and be first.

That typically works for me because I’ll drop back and find my own gaps, the etiquette isn’t quite ACC or iRacing levels so you kinda have to do stuff or get off the pot going out first.

Last is also a bit annoying because your likely to be running on your own and that can be the hardest to dial in a 1 lap wonder time.

It’s all horses for courses etc so just do you mate in the moment. We can plan, we can practice but we can only ever be in the moment once

I just noticed that Genesis is no longer a partner for the Manufacturers Cup. Though if I may be frank, I'm not sure what they really added compared to the partnership with TGR. The only thing I can think of is that they utilized the Manufacturers Cup as a way to promote their brand, which would make a lot of sense.

I kinda felt three partner manufacturers was getting too much. 2022 was also the only season they didn't use their immunity and instead pointed into the live events.

Anyone have good insight just how "Random" the weather will be at Spa?
The easiest way to check for yourself is to go into Free Practice and reset the weather a bunch of times. You just enter the track and immediately leave, then you can check on the radar for the new pattern.

I've done this a bunch of times and what I've seen is that the track always starts dry. The rain -- if there is any -- arrives behind a slow-moving wall that hits the track sometime around lap 5. It can come from any direction and what comes is pretty much random -- from completely, through light rain, to heavy rain.

I've done a test for tyre wear with the Porsche.
@Moose78 you've been absolutly right! 10 laps on RH in the dry is no problem. I felt the tires loosing grip from lap 9.

Here you can see how the tires looked after 10 and 15 laps:

And with the new BoP i could go full throttle thru Eau Rouge even in the final lap.

@ everybody who's racing tomorrow: have fun!

I did a dry practice race against Sophy last night and found the same in the Jaguar.

Besides changing tires, expect to have to put some fuel in the tank, too. And with the lower-than-usual 7L/s fill rate, it might be worth doing some passive fuel saving to reduce the pit time.

Another Wednesday night disaster.

First GT1 slot in the Americas (8PM EDT). In door #5 of an all-A/S lobby, driving for Jaguar, with 179 points up for grabs. @Canucks_9419 was there, too. Good to see you!

Qualified Q8 with a time of 1:43.020, about a tenth off my best.

I started on RH tires and went into the pits to change them at the end of lap 1, and... accidentally chose the 'No tire change' button. Went back in to the pits again at the end of lap 2 to change them. Came out in last place, P15, over a minute behind the leaders, with a 12-second gap to the nearest car ahead. Drove around the track for the rest of the race without seeing anybody. Promoted to P14 when another driver quit. Brought home 82 points for my trouble.
I just finally watched back the replay to see what had happened to you. A tragic error, but it happens to the best of us! Good to race with you again regardless!

I did a 6am AP GT2 race, dry all the way, when we exited to the result screen the clock showed 7:01. So too late go straight into the next race. We did have one straggler out of fuel who kept us waiting, might have been 7:00 instead without him.

So if you want to do back to back races it's going to be a very long shot, you'll need everyone in the race to be quick, no stragglers allowed. Then you'll need to be super quick on the menus to get entered on time.

Threw away a P6 in my mixed B/C GT3 lobby because I haven’t done any wet races in ages and have forgotten how to read the radar and weather speed. Dropped to DFL (11th because of previous quitters, now 10th), got lapped and so fed up I’m currently parked in the pits waiting for the end. I may have to skip Suzuka if it’s another weather race

Wasn’t really enjoying it anyway. As my DR was near the top of C and I have a full SR I got sacrificed and placed in a lobby full of dirty B drivers (SR down to D). Pure filth, more concerned with running people off the road than actually driving. I just sat behind shaking my head and picking up the scraps.

Just to add about the weather: It was a light blue patch that moved in around lap 3 and remained for the rest of the race over the track. There was a darker blue patch off to the left but that never arrived. For the first 12 or so laps the wipers were on but the track was dry. I assumed it would stay that way and pitted for an undercut on lap 9, mostly to get out of the dirty pack (tyres were fine for wear). From lap 12 the rain very gradually increased and the bar went up. Despite it still being only light blue on the radar it was 2-bars by the end.

My 1st Race was quite a desaster. The qualy was ok, P3 with only 0.3 slower then my best practice lap.

The race started dry, as the rain came i stayed out, like most others, just to see the water gauge to rise from zero to almost the 2nd bar in seconds!
I made it spinning to the pits. Dropped down to P9. Finished P8.

I‘ll go again in the 3rd EMEA slot. I just hope it stays dry this time!

Did my GT2 Race. Just Q10, so room for improvement. After 5 Laps it began to rain and I went for Inters. Was wet till the end and the indicator was around the second bar (there were a few laps above the second Bar, but it was manageable). For a long time I managed P3 (P2 ans P1 were always in sight). In the last lap, one quick driver came from behind and overtook me in the last corners before the long straight, did not fight him because he was much faster). So P4 in finish for I think 124 points, which I am happy with.

GT2 EMEA - Slot 2 (10am) A/S - 165 pts

QT10th door 14

Started to rain lap 6 and rained the entire race after that. Moved up 2 places to finish 8th for 115pts

The attrition rate was high as only 9 finished…

Overall a very dull race as those that stayed had clearly practiced so accidents and offs were virtually non existent.

Race time was 57 mins factor in QT etc and I exited the race at 11:07am so guessing for most if it is wet you are unlikely to go back to back in GT2/3

My dry track pace at Spa is usually horrible, but this time around it seems to be okay-ish -- at least if the Free Practice times on my friends list are any indication. Still, I'm praying for rain. It's the one condition where I feel like I have any kind of advantage. That, of course, probably means I'll have a completely dry race. Time will tell.

One observation about the rain after doing a few practice sessions in Free Practice is that while the rain -- if you get any -- consistently hits the track early in lap 5, it doesn't start accumulating until a darker square of rain gets close to the track. In one of my sessions, the moisture gauge was at zero until lap 9 or 10, even though the track was covered with the lightest blue since lap 5. It wasn't until a blob of slightly darker blue was adjacent to the track that moisture started registering on the gauge. The darker blue never covered any part of the track, but it seems just by proximity it caused the water to accumulate. Once that happened, it steadily rose. I thought it might fall again as the darker blob drifted away, but it didn't. I got caught out on slicks as level rose to mid-way between the first and second tick on the gauge.

The rule of thumb that I'll be using for this race is to pit for IMs or Ws as soon as I see moisture on the gauge. I'd rather risk being a little early on the wet weather tires than too late.

Good luck to everybody who has yet to race!

Interesting about the rain, I did my full (7-20) rain race in VR with the some observations:

In VR the first indication of rain came via seeing the wipers come on this was before the rain gauge showed anything and before the rain radar had updated.

It was also easier to gauge when to come in I thought. I did the early switch to inters and had half a lap dry but then it was just crack on in the wet. Quite a few tried to do an extra lap on the slicks and it didn’t work out for them very well, so I’d definitely recommend caution over bravado.

EMEA - GT3 - 10:00

The title of this race is: the reality is that you are not fast enough.

Qualified 6, final P8.

The race was always dry.
Started well, at the second lap I was punched and back in P10.
Another lap punted again and then P16.

I was going to leave because from the radar no rain so no dramatic possible changes in the race expected.
However I remained in and gaining quite quickly over the last group of 4-5 drivers.

At lap 7 I though to do an undercut.
If I remain here I could get one or two positions but fighting a lot and not gaining so much.
So let’s change the tires.

Then I started lapping as best as possible and every time a car was pitting I gained the relative position.

At the end there was an accident between two drivers so another two position gained and I think one of them was who punted me the second time (karma is there).

In the last three laps I had 2 cars in front of me in a battle. It could be risky to pass them also because I didn’t have so much more speed than them.

So the conclusion is simple.
If you are fast you start at the beginning of the group. Less problem to be punted by behind desperate drivers.
If you are fast you can easily overtake others and you can recover from eventual issues happened during the race.

So, “discovering hot water”
…next time try to be faster. Simple.

I went out second in qualifying, I was going to wait but I usually try to get out first and I automatically pulled the trigger on the pad and went out in second, but going into the second lap, my only flying lap I picked up two 0.5s penilatys, I still managed to start 9th which wasn't bad considering and also as it was my first proper rank C race.

I knew rain was coming but it was slow moving, but in the testing I knew the water held on the track, it started raining half-way around (Pouhon) lap 9 but it was just the light blue on the radar, one driver pitted (I passed them in the pits) I decided to stay out as the track was still dry, I then decided to stay out on another lap, but half-way the track (Bruxelles) was too wet for RM's and some cars went past as they had pitted, I then pitted and I went with Inters as I thought the rain is only light blue and it will dry, I then made it to 4th place as people were going off the track either having tried to go on RM or due to it being a bit slippery on Inters, the rain bad was under the second bar still!

I decided to stay out on Inters until the end, but my tires were full red on the final lap (I did go off once) and I did lose a couple of places as some drivers must have got for a RM-W-RM/Inter tire strategy and I ended up 7th at the end.

I should have pitted for Inters or Wets one lap earlier, I knew it when I was going down Kemmel (I was saying, "you've done it now, one lap too late") but I do think IF I had pitted a lap earlier the Inters would not have lasted another lap and I would have had to pit again and I would not have finished 7th, but I am happy with where I finished as I don't think i would have done any better in the conditions, because the best strategy seems to have been RM-W-RM or Inter but going into the race or even looking on the radar there was no way to tell, this race was just one that was down to pure luck, yes and driving skill in the weather, but if you pitted the wrong laps, went off or were held up anywhere between Les Combes and Blanchimont you were out of luck.

My goal was to finish 8th or better so I would get positive ranking points, I am not going to risk another race because I think I could only gain a couple more positions if the weather events were exactly the same knowing what I know now, but there is more chance that I would finish worse than 7th.

GT2 | 118 pts | EMEA 3rd slot | 911 RSR | door 7

Second attempt at Spa. Hoping for a dry race this time, you know what happend ... it was even wetter than before!

Qualy was ok, 2:21.0 and P5
0 Gran Turismo™ 7_20250412121128.png

The race started with a clasic: Lap 1, turn 1 the guy behind me was too late on the brakes. And instead of avoiding me, he turned in and used me as his brake: 😤
1 Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps_.png

And as a bonus, i got a 1s track limit penalty! That put me back in P10.

Lap 2, the exit of Eau Rouge i got another penalty by half an ich or so:
2 Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps__1.png

In lap i went to the pits and changed tires, but the wrong ones! There was so much rain on the radar, that i should have take the full Wets. Honestly, looking back i'm asking myself how i could be so stupid and choose the IMs.
That was the weather as i took the IMs.
3 Ohne Titel 2.png

And that is what came:
4 Ohne Titel.png

So i pitted again in lap 10. After the 1st pitstop i was in P4! And maybe that race could have taken a good end without that 2nd stop ...

But during the heavy rain in spun twice in the same spot
5Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps__3.png

I finished 10th. Pretty disapointing, especially because i like Spa and in the dry i used to be much better.

This is going to become my most ever average season with P 8, 7, 9 and 10 so far ...

But it wasn't all bad. I had a nice and fair fight with guys in a Ford GT and another Porsche. The latter showed what fair driving means by avoiding me and going of the track, as he missed his braking point for the final chicane:

Good luck to everyone who is going to race today!

GT2, first US slot, low B lobby, 74 points for the win

Did some testing yesterday, so not so unprepared as usual ;)

Qualifying went surprisingly well, for 2:21.6 I got 2nd place (people must have made mistakes or taken penalties on their hot laps)

Weather for the race was expected to be dry, some light green patches flying towards but too far away.

Start. Eau Rouge is my weak spot for this round (it's not always like this), sometimes I get it right, and sometimes I miss terribly.
After the start I went and said to myself, don't blow it, don't blow it. And I blew it. 🤦‍♂️
Half a second penalty and two drivers overtook me on the way to Les Combes, the chicane I took "squarely" as we say it, and so slow that I had to let go another two drivers. Great first lap.

Driving in 6th (with growing gap to the lead). Lap 2 braking to Les Combes I get monster hit from behind (the Canadian Audi missed the braking, apologized after the race so fine). Luckily, the hit pointed me in the right direction through the chicane, used the right wall to stop the spin and straighten myself a little and accelerated away (good that the game didn't hand me penalty for maximum chicane cut).

I did not loose position because the hitter held up the traffic from behind. So I'm hanging alone 5 seconds from the lead group and about the same to the chasers. Already seeing no rain patches on the radar so no help from weather. I get my head down and start hitting those laptimes.

After the pit cycle I find myself in 5th (someone took it very long in the box) and after the tire change I started to feel better with the car, laptimes were around high 21s low 22s and slowly starting to reel in the 4th one.
But suddenly the leading Beetle (big ups for the not so obvious car choice and very good pace!) pits for the second time! The hell?
So I advance to 4th. Two laps later the pole sitter in McLaren that was running 2nd, pits as well, but it clearly shows that they simply forgot to take fuel the first time around.

Now I'm 3rd and I really gain solid tenths on the GT-R in 2nd. Don't know what was their problem but I was gaining a lot and then when I was "in the zone" clocking best sectors I spin out of turn 11. Oh well, gap behind was big enough. The last two laps I still was gaining on the Nissan, so withouth that spin I had a chance for 2nd. But settled for 3rd.

GTWS25-Manu4-result.jpg

Not that bad considering my "adventures" on the track. 68 points is also a solid haul.

GTWS25-Manu4-podium.jpg

From the post-race chat I learned that the Beetle encountered a strange glitch, it the box the game did not change their tires!
They had to pit second time because at the 2/3rds of the race the tires were almost completely worn.

6pm slot.
I'd have gone on this morning if I realised there were no slots in the afternoon. On a clear Saturday I usually try and race and listen to the football on the radio. So I had to wait until 6pm and the cats were not happy as their tea was delayed.

Qualy was o.k. and fearing the worst as I went slightly wide at Blanchimont, but no penalty came. I would start P8 and thankfully ahead of the final chicane.
The French Porsche ahead was slow out of La Source and I was able to get ahead, albeit briefly as they were better through Eu Rouge due to the chronic understeer I had in this race. And of course I ran wide at Blanchimont again and this time it was wide enough to get a penalty. The pen dropped me back down to 11th. A R8 got past into Les Combes. It seemed I had no pace at all and had to fight the car. It was going to be a long race (20 laps not withstanding.) Then I slightly touched the astro coming out of Fagne and the car went round one way and then the other. Luckily it settled facing the right way in Stavelot 1. This of course lost me another position. The Ferrari who had just past me and a Lambo who had a spin ahead were battling into Blanchimont. The Ferrari went across the grass and span into the Lambo also sending it around. I pick back up 2 places. Lap 8 and a Porsche spins at La Source. They make a hash of getting back around the right way and I pass them also. Lap 9 and I had managed to close in on the Audi who must have had issues up ahead. They catch the kerb in Fagne and are sent around. P9. Lap 10 and others are starting to pit. My fuel and tyres are fine so I aim for lap 12. I have been slowly closing on a Porsche ahead and they stay out as I come in from 5th. I'm hoping for an undercut. The Lambo who had also been catching me follows me in. I somehow gain seeing as they had better fuel percentage than me. I'm back out in 9th. The Porsche pits a lap later and I see them exit. Now is my chance. I get alongside into Eu Rouge. I assume they are expecting me to back out and turn in as if I'm not there. They bounce off me and straiten the Radillion. They stay ahead and with the contact there is no penalty for them.
5a105de5e46a04119004e6c1723bd0dd_photo.webp

The Lambo is now right behind me. I know they were faster so wasn't intending to fight them. In fact I was hoping they could scrap with the Porsche and leave me with a chance to get them both. But they misjudged their position into Pouhon and slightly tapped me. Thankfully only a little wide, but I was annoyed after giving them space on entry.
Whilst they do get close on occasions they end up pulling away. A Porsche is close behind me but pits on lap 15. Another Porsche. (The lobby was infested with them!) also closes but I hold them at bay (Helped by a penalty for them) to finish 10th.
I was hoping for a better round here considering the straights of Sector 1 and 3. However I just couldn't get the car to do what I wanted like the others could.

From the post-race chat I learned that the Beetle encountered a strange glitch, it the box the game did not change their tires!
Happens a lot to controller users who hit X and cancel the pit dialogue.

Some proper dumb driving from a French Porsche (also, seriously, can we rejig the matchmaking to get as many marques in as possible on each grid, rather than 50% 911 and M6?) who hit just about everyone within reach, swerved about while serving penalties, and spooned himself off the exit at Bus Stop on the final lap. Like... if you weren't so dirty we'd have both been top 5, not 11th and wherever the hell you finished at the arse end behind a guy who pitted twice.

Oh yeah, fully dry race.
