I ran the first GT1 slot in the Americas (8 PM EDT). There were 170 points up for grabs in my 15-car all-A/S lobby. I was in door #9 driving the Jag and needed a P13 finish to improve my score.
Qualifying was uneventful. I posted a 2:01.334 -- a couple tenths off my best lap in free practice -- which landed me Q13, so I decided to start on the RM tires.
The race got off to a Suzuka start. There was a fair bit of chaos over the first few laps. I managed to survive for a while, moving up to P10.
On lap 4, though, I also fell victim, casually bumped off at Degna 1 by a Supra. That dropped me back to P13.
A few laps later, I caught the green stuff at Spoon and went for a spin. Down one more to P14.
I pitted on lap 13 for RS, coming out just behind a Nissan. I felt like I had a tire advantage over them, but finding an opportunity to attack was proving difficult. It finally came on lap 19, when they got Degna 2 wrong. I pull alongside on the straight to the hairpin and even momentarily pulled ahead.
But I had to leave space for them at the hairpin and gave it right back.
Drove it out from there to a P12 finish - 92 points. A disappointing end to a disappointing season.
I placed 4th in Jaguar overall -- last of the drivers that completed 5 rounds. Thankfully, that still landed me a bronze payout. I scored first in Canada by being the sole driver for Jaguar there.
I'd gone into the season with hopes of getting some decent mid-pack results. The car felt good to drive and appeared to be nerfed less than most of the others in the BoP update.
Then reality kicked in and I quickly learned that I was not anywhere near fast or consistent enough to compete at my current DR.
The late (for me) night slots didn't do me any favours for me either. I made stupid, race-ruining mistakes that perhaps I might have avoided had I not been drifting into my end-of-day stupor.
Oh well, on to Nations Cup next. I did a few practice races against Sophy at Road Atlanta earlier this morning. If they are any indication of what's to come, I sense there are more beatings ahead.
