Had an absolutely horrible time in GT1, slot 1.

I guess all bets are off now that permanent damage is turned off.

Not race report, except to say I was 5th heading into the bus stop, and last coming out of it on lap 1.

Made up a little ground only to be taken out 2 more times.

Finished a very lonely 13th, DFL, some 55 seconds of the lead and 22 seconds off 12th.

90 points in the end, and that's enough of that for me.

That went better than expected, but, to be fair, my expectations were pretty low.

Door #14 in the first GT1 slot (6 PM EST) for the Americas, with 197 points up for grabs in a mid-A/S lobby. I was driving the BMW M6 Endurance Model.

Qualification couldn't have gone better. I posted a 1:44.911, better than any I'd done in Free Practice. That landed me Q10.

The race started with a mad jumble of cars at T1, but I think everybody survived. I did anyway, and even picked up a spot.

The next few laps were pretty hectic. I dropped a few positions to faster drivers, but I was able to keep up with the pack. Gained some back, here and there, as other drivers crashed and took penalties, including a brown pants moment going through the bus stop on lap 3.

A BMW and Lexus ahead of me tried to go in side-by-side. The Lexus, who was on the right, clipped the rail, coming to nearly a dead stop. I was barreling right into them, but they weren't ghosting. Just at the instance that I made contact, the ghosting kicked in. There was a poof of smoke in the replay, suggesting that there was contact, but thankfully I came out of it without any damage.

As things settled down, I found myself towards the back of the pack chasing a yellow BMW with whom I've had some good racing in the past. I pitted on lap 12 for softs, they pitted a lap later. The undercut got me ahead of them when they came out of the pits, but they were faster than me and we had some good racing until they got past me on lap 17.

I ended up finishing in P9 for 131 points. Not a great result, maybe, but it is an improvement over the first round. I had fun, so I'm not going to complain.

Bring on the karts!

Just finished mid A/S lobby at 8PM EST. I think the point total for 1st was 201. Chose the BRZ for something a little different

Started 5th on softs. People struggled off the line and came out 3rd out of turn 1, then gained another spot off the chicane after 2nd went wide. There I stayed about 3 seconds behind the leader.

Pitted on lap 9-10, which was a lap after the leader hoping to gain something. The leader almost got stuck in hard tire traffic, but managed it well. So there I was about 4-5 seconds behind. One thing the BRZ does very well is tire wear. It gets a little understeery except for the main culprit around the toe of the boot, but it's also very fast around the boot section. The problem is straightline speed. I was losing about 2-3 tenths from turn 1 to the chicane, but could make it up and then some the rest of the lap.

I kept wittling away, but I took 2 half-second penalties from turn 1 and ran wide once at the exit of the chicane. The leader was consistent and beat me by 1.1 seconds. Without those penalties, who knows? But I'm pleased with the result. Pics are first lap and finish line.

I don't understand how Sportsmanship Rating is calculated, why do rivals with rating S constantly push and knock me off the track?
Another boring, but nervous race on the BMW M6 Endurance.
Qualifying for 10th place.
I easily got to 5th place, and then chaos began. The pilots in 4th and 5th place, after I passed them, decided that they could just slow down from me, pushing me off the track. For about 5 laps, the same situation continued: I overtake him, after a couple of turns he tries to overtake me, pushes me off the track, the tires get dirty and I try to catch him for 1-2 laps. When I still couldn't break away from these madmen, both were involved in accidents and I brought them more than 6 seconds. The first 3 pilots were driving at a higher pace than me, I would hardly have been able to catch them, much less fight with them, so I am happy with 4th place.

I have already failed the next go-kart race....it will definitely be madness. For those who play on a gamepad, I recommend setting the sensitivity to -2, it helped me.

The one thing I noticed was without the Michelin sponsorship, cars can run whatever tire sidewall they wish. I think its great seeing different sidewalls so racers can use their preferred tires and not conflict with their livery.

I also expect to have a Manufacturer Exhibition Season 2 starting on March 12 to squeeze one in before the April qualifying races.

Yes, this is good news. I am a fan. Hated how the tires would change to Michelin during WS events. I like to run whichever brand matches my livery.

So far, I wish PD had stuck with the EX1 format. I did do well in the "All frog"* race. (All the cars had to be green why?) Personally, I am not a fan of "Find the cheater car to win." races. At least unlock the color chose. Being able to see all the settings would of course be unheard of.

Rant over. *(In no way aimed at the French!)

Any thoughts on the karts for tomorrow? I seem to get along decently well with them (1:12.345), but feeling 1:11’s are within reach. I try to run without TC on any car whenever I can and go without for the karts, but did run a lobby race with TC1 and felt no real difference. Does TC even have an effect with these?
Any thoughts on Eiger in the karts specifically? Feels like the downhill switchbacks and then getting good acceleration (geared down to fourth) out of the longest big right hander are the keys to more speed.
I’m still struggling with the last right hander to the finish line also. Some laps I’m exiting further up the track, some I’m hugging the kerb, with my gearing being inconsistent between staying in fourth or dropping to third as well. I’ve followed the some of the fastest ghosts, but am still searching for my own best line.

The Karts are pretty sketchy tbh. I'm not a fan of them but I think they are the ultimate level playing field, which should attract a lot of players to Round 3.
I've heard they are easier to drive on a controller, but since the update they seem to be just fine using a wheel.
It's a staggered grid start, so expect some aggressive divebombing into T1 and in the downhill section. The key to success here is to find your own rhythm and hope there aren't too many drivers in your vicinity. I use the cockpit view because it's much easier to see where my wheels are. VR users should benefit a lot in this round. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the advice. Down into the 1:11’s now and having nothing but fun learning to throw this thing around and still keep it under control. I’m running a wheel and Vr and expecting my lobbies tomorrow (mid-D, some low C early on in the day) to be pretty chaotic, so will take those first few turns, and laps, with caution.
Good luck as well!

@Tidgney has a good lap guide from when this combo was in a daily race back in September:

It's worth a watch if you haven't seen it.
I try to run without TC on any car whenever I can and go without for the karts, but did run a lobby race with TC1 and felt no real difference. Does TC even have an effect with these?
I've been doing most of my practice with TC 0 -- pretty consistently hitting low 1:11s and high 1:10s (on controller). If it helps anywhere, I'd think it would be on the exit from the sweeping right-hander at the bottom of the track and through that S on the climb back up. That's where I tend to feel the back sliding out on me.

If you touch the grass anywhere, of course, you'll go for a spin regardless of what TC you are running.

Awesome!, didnt know Tidgney has the guide but shouldve figured. Will learn a few tricks for sure.
I’ve settled on TC0 as well, and appreciate the spots to be aware of. The grass reminder certainly is valid too!

Okay, that (EMEA GT2 slot 1) was brilliant. And hilarious.
Most of the field got the memo about it being a brake check start, but not all, meaning I went from Q7 to P5 at T1 for no effort. Escaped with the front group until a faster driver came through recovering from a bad start, now P6. P4 then put a wheel on the grass defending from the recovering fast driver, both of them went off, and I took and kept P4 to the end, collecting a nice point haul and the CRB.
If you'd asked me yesterday I'd have said that the karts sucked and I sucked at driving them. Now I'd say the karts are brilliant little things.. but I still slightly suck at driving them😁.
Top tip: if you usually use roof cam it will default to 3rd person chase cam when driving a kart. I found that switching to head cam meant I could place the kart a lot easier in the turns.

Good luck today everyone!

Well, I did not feel like karting but having been forced to miss race one entirely I figured I'd give it a go. Couldn't be bothered to wheel it after some reasonable practice laps.

Started 12th, about a third of the grid forgot about False Start Check, got up to 8th by the end of lap one (having briefly been fourth due to the stupid Strong ghosting making every car intangible in the second hairpin) and was lag-punted into someone ahead, and eventually got up to 6th by not crashing or getting a penalty.

No idea what the points will be, as I forgot to check, but a DR up is always welcome.

Edit: 110, which is my best tally this season. Okay, out of two finishes, and the other was 92. Puts me top of North Yorkshire (despite #2 having three finishes!) and back in the top 100 UK in GT2. Super Formula will destroy that.

TCS 2 will slow you up but the massive increase in consistency is a nice reward.

Karts are fun but I am terrible at driving them!

Slot one I thought a 1:10 pace would be ok in an A+ lobby... I was wrong and raced round with one spin and finished P13.

Slot two I did a bit of practice for qualified P5 in the 1:09's... but this time I span twice and finished P11. Two steps forward...

Do I gamble my very average points and flagging DR on slot 3? Maybe... those races were both more fun than they had any right to be!

Thanks to the help from those here, and @Tidgney hating karts but still posting the guide. I started on pole for my second race and ended up second place at one second behind the winner.
Its my best nations/manu finish, my first pole!, and it was surprisingly the type of race I’ve been looking for but hardly ever find in sport mode- good, clean, fair, and fast racing. The eventual winner and I were really evenly matched with both trading lead laps for the second 6 with nothing but respect and only incidental contact from the heat of the race- and the slipppery karts.
Thats why i love this game. Second place is why I want to get better, but still feels like a major accomplishment. Thanks to all here who helped that happen today!

Well today Round 3 was a bucketfest of hilarity enusing at Eiger Norwand, these karts kept me chuckling htrough out the entie race with endless spinneraonnies by drivers and bail crashes to the Nth degree!

LOW C lobby - EMEA REGION - 2PM SLOT - GT KARTS 125 - White Kart. DS5 Controller.

Qualifying was mess, got an ok 1:12 laptime but that only placed way down in 14th I realised it was choopy. Grid start lol.

Onto the Race, Bad start as I jumped it and lost two secs and then was last playing catchup two people span out immediatly and i hit one guy but recovered to get up to 14th and then more and more squatted like flies and i was 10th by the first lap.

Two more karts bailed on lap 2 making me 8th place of the majority of the race, then I caught this dutch raer and we battle all 5 laps between 7th and 8th place and then I made an error on lap 7 and nose dived the 5th turn hairpin and spun out, he darted away and I was playing catchup, thankufully on the last few laps a guy bailed and i caught up a position to land 8th overall.

A very nutty race, I wish they chosee Rally B cars over the karts it wud have made more sense or at least just all Suburus STI cars!

Onto Round 4, close to a bday race that I must WIN hehe. Super Formula here we come!
