Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City

A friend of mine who doesn't play it anymore, gave me his Vice City PC game. I got it off him and installed it because I'm interested in the mods available for PC.

Well, I downloaded and installed and coolest mod. I installed the GTA:Liberty City mod that gives you a hybrid GTA3/Vice City game. It means that I can roam and rampage around Liberty City as Fido, but with the Vice City advantages of motorcycles and helicopters.

I haven't figured all the options and mods available for it yet, but it gives you all the cars from GTA3, the and the bikes and choppers from Vice City. Looking at some of the threads over at gtaforums.com, it seems that the GTA3 missions are available to play, but I haven't figured out how, there's no mission icons on my game.

The whole of Liberty City is open from the start, with all the bonuses at all your hideouts - police bribes, weapons & health. I think I'll have some fun going on some old fashioned GTA3 rampages but having fun ripping through the streets of Liberty City on a PCJ600 being chased by the cops.

The only problem I had with it is that I had started a new game of Vice City a couple of games ago when I installed the game first, but I when I try to load Vice City as normal, not as the Liberty City mod, my game crashes. I can only play the new mod, not the original Vice City. There's probably a way around this, but I don't care. I'm having too much fun zooming around in a chopper in Liberty City or hitting the unique jumps on a PCJ600.

If you have Vice City for PC, download this mod if you can. It's fantastic! When I started playing GTA3 again a long while after playing Vice City, I wished I could take advantage of the Vice City bonuses - bikes and choppers - and now I can!

Here's a screenshot of Fido hitting the Unique Jump by the Portland subway station on a PCJ600:

I finally got to see Ghost City with my own eyes:

It's hidden underneath the inaccessible hilly area to the north of the map. I think I'll go explore a few other inaccessible places. It's a pity about the height limit for choppers - I can't access Donald Love's rooftop and I don't think I can get to the observatory.

Can you get closer shots of the ghost town?

And have you tried following one of the planes that takeoff from the airport?

Looks like a cool mod KM, I'd download it but my internet is slow and I assume that one is fairly big.

It's about a 60Mb download. That's a 3 or 4 hour download if you're on a dialup connection.

Yes I can. I landed a helicopter there today and explored it. Here you go:

The front of Liberty City bank (the vans aren't drivable):

The shops opposite the bank:

The alleyway beside the bank where Fido is shot:

This mod is one of the few that I would ever want-- I played III after VC and I missed the bikes in liberty city... I have seen a couple of stunt vids (links in my sig) that had stunts from liberty city using this mod.... so I lived vicariously through them.

I'm pretty sure the song in the LC vid (Liberty city Smackdown) is on the San Andreas Soundtrack-- I get pumped and start stunting when ever it comes on....

ps I haven't play GTA in over 6 weeks (the only bad thing about being a parent)

I first saw the mod in the Liberty City Smackdown stunt video and really loved the idea of having bikes and choppers in Liberty City. So when I got Vice City for PC the obvious thing to do was to download the mod.

It's great fun just zooming around Liberty City on a PCJ600 and hitting ramps and various things at speed trying to get some good stunts. I haven't really tried to get some good airtime and rotations yet though. I think I'll watch some of the stunt vidoes from the mod and get some ideas.

Nice blonde hair KM ;)

I've never seen Claude look so bad :P

Blake
You like it? :dopey: Both GTAIII and Vice City have a texture file for the main character (Tommy/Claude). I thought he was boring looking so I thought I'd jazz him by painting his hair yellow. Maybe I'll just get one of the cool skins off the 'net.

I wonder where else I can explore in Liberty City. I landed a chopper on Portland Rock so I could walk up to the lighthouse, but there's an invisible wall of some sort preventing you from walking up the stairs to the top.

The area out by ghost city is pretty strange. On your radar map you can see names like "Gary's Town" and "Steve's county" etched into the map. I bet they're the programmers and designers names.

KM.

Yeah, I know about the texture files, but you could have at least done something testeful!

Haha, that's pretty cool about the names etched into the map, wanna set your res a bit higher and post a clear shot?

I'll post some screens later on of the names on the map. You can't see them on the main map, just on the radar on the bottom left of the screen. I'll fly over again in the Hunter and take some screenshots.

Here you go. The names can't be seen on the actual map, just on the little radar icon on the bottom-left of screen, but I captured a few of them and rotated them to make them more readable, hence the "N" for North is in funny places in a couple of them:

Nice pics! ;) One thing though, the land mass that shows on radar but is not physically there is strong evidence of an aborted 4th island project. It's the same w/ the blocked off tunnels in SSV.
