Let's take a break from exotic muscle and allow me to go down a road less traveled. Two types of "Hometown Horsepower," Go-Kart racing and Lawnmower racing. I've seen both types on television. I've competed indoors at a go-kart facility once and the experience was insane. Seeing a John Deere (John? Hey! That's MY name!) at a Home Depot or someplace makes me imagine just what the heck it would be like to modify it and go racing. Grassroots karting and lawnmower racing are both outside of the definition of what I consider "pure racing cars," but karting and lawnmower racing are both just for fun racing series. So which is better?
I think both series are fun. I've raced go-karts at centers about two times. One at a Supertrack here in Southeast Houston, then at the Davy Jones Kartzone (http://www.kartzone.net) around Ferrari of Houston. So I've done karting around town. Never did anything like Super 1 Karting in Europe, FIA Karting, or those wonderful Superkarts that I've seen before but can't actually describe which ones I'm into the most. The lawnmower racers usually race out around grass and have walls of hay. A lawnmower racer's worst nightmare is to get hay-bathed. But from what I've seen, there are hay ovals and hay road courses. Just being on one is fun in my view. Plus, you modify the lawnmower to a contender against others.
So who takes the cake in the grassroots battle?
