Hello,

After a long hiatus on GTPlanet (merely lurking through the foruns incognito mode), I had to go find my username to login again and seek for your help.

Recently, I have been racing AC PC2 and GTS in my limited free time. I do think that there is space for all three games, and all have their shortcomings and their moments of glory. I do confess that when I play GTS, in the back of my mind I'm fighting not to go back to PC2. The track list is simply amazing and Livetrack 2 gives it a whole new life.

Now, I've started the career when the game came out. Started at Ginetta Jr., and right off the bat with AI at 90-100 I won almost all the races. Upgraded to Clio Trophy, and I had a really bad time getting used to the handling of the car. When I did find that sweet spot, it was amazing (even though I did have a spin once in a while) - to this regard, I should note that I played online with the Clio Trophy at Bathurst and the handling seemed absolutely different, the car was very planted unlike in career mode.

So I've finished the Clio Trophy, and upgraded to Group A. M3 e30, AI at 90, no assists except ABS. First race was raining, I won by 40seconds and lapped a couple of cars. Second race, and I was very competitive in the free practice (it was raining) but, between the free practice and the qualy/race, it stopped raning. When I was racing the Sierra simply flew by me. I was trying to catch the Sierras in the corners which was possible with heavy late braking and adjusting the apex, and when the straights came, they just.. left... the difference in speed was astonishing.

So, on to my questions:

a) Is the Sierra that much quicker than the e30 M3 or am I just bad (?);
b) Why is it that when its raining (with wets up the temperature) the car is completely controlled and controllable, and when its dry (with slicks up to temperature), its all over the place when braking and getting mad wheel spin? The behavior just seems off. The car handles better when its raining than when its dry, and my inputs are basically the same (except the racing line, which I use the "wet racing line" when... its wet).

Cheers!

You are obviously not bad - I'm sure you are excellent! In PC1 the Sierra and BMW were closely matched. In real life the Sierra had 50% more power than the BMW and was in a different class within Group A - they became the two dominant cars of their era and you either raced a Sierra for an overall win or a BMW for a class win (or one of the smaller engined cars, but the lower classes were less well supported). I've only done a little bit of testing so far with these cars, but I think SMS have increased the difference in performance so they are now effectively in two classes within Group A.

I think your best shot is to try both cars by yourself and set a few lap times in time trial mode.

As per rain tires the answer is yes, cars tend to be more planted than with slicks. It may be a bug or something intended. I lack the experience IRL with rain tires for race cars. They may be more progressive and controllable at the limit due to the flex of the thread.

Thank you both.

Well, I'll have to try the Sierra.

As regards the wet slicks, I never drove a car with wet slicks. I do have some experience in wet tracks with semi-slicks (or "quasi Semi-Slicks" as the Federal 595-RSR aren't true semi-slicks) and my little MX5 looks like it has 300hp. I do know that wet slicks have nothing to do with semi-slicks, and they do grip the road, but I surely wasn't expecting them to be more grippy than a slick tire on a dry track.
