What exactly is it that makes something "grunge" people claim to be, that's up to them though, but I just want to know what other people think classifies something as grunge.

You might find the answers in the "music" thread?

If you want a timbral answer then usually grunge performances are defined by slightly detuned, discordant electric guitars whose signals are distorted and tube-amplified.

If you want a sociological answer then I'd recommend reading Postmodern Musicology by Kramer.

I'd heard "grunge" used more or less as a synonym for "crud" long before it became a musical term. Perhaps there's a connection.

Example: "This afternoon I'm going to clean out the grunge under the stove."

Interesting read. From what I can gather, we would not have this genre of music if it wasn't for Jimi Hendrix and the wonders he created back in the day.

And from somewhere...

Thanks guys, I totally forgot there was a music section for some reason xD, It's just with all the music these days, and all these needless or useful labels, who knows. It's hard to keep track what is what anymore.
