GT Academy 2?

Couldn't find anything about this already on the forums.

I picked up a copy of this month's Top Gear magazine for a train journey today. They featured a small section about GT Academy - worth a read.

What is really interesting is this however:
"Sounds like a challenge for anyone thinking of having a shot at GT academy this year, a competition Darren (Darren Cox - 'Nissan's online guru') promises will be even bigger."

Edit: My opinion: I'm not sure how recent the source is from since they talk about being at the GT Academy UK final in London a few times in the article.

There would be no problem for Sony/PD to organise and pull of such an event - the money those guys have is unreal. The question is: Is there any point? GT5p has surely been out long enough now to not need any more publicity. And GT5 is still (speculation aside) a while off. I could only see them doing something like this if it really helped them to sell games - unless, perhaps, they're not driven completely by money?

This is from a topic I started in the GT5 forum:
"As awesome as all this sounds KY says he has something even bigger in store. GT5 will be the first game that forges the bridge between video games and the real world. PD is working with major car manufacturers to reveal cars simultaneously in real life and then in GT5. In GT5 real professional race car drivers will partake in special online events and competitions. KY jokes that one of these drivers is rumored to only wear white and can't be beat. Furthering competition, GT5 will be the first game to take gamers out of the chair and into the real world. GT Academy will be held every 2 years and recruit the top GT drivers from special online competitions. These drivers will have a chance [not guaranteed] at becoming real life racing drivers. Other events will be held annually that reward top drivers with valuable prizes. GTTV will cover these events. It will also offer many specials covering the world of cars and automotive racing."

I think PD and Sony are leveraging GT5 to be more than just a video game. PD and SCE have the opportunity to do something truly ground breaking with GT5 and GT Academy and bridge the gap between games and the real world. Can you imagine the publicity they would get if something like this came to fruition?

Good post. Do you have a source? Or is it pure speculation (/wishful thinking :))?

If there is a GT Academy 2 I would think it would be with the launch of GT5... Unless GT5 release is in 2010. Then; who knows? Maybe they will do it for a laugh.

bring it.. im preparing myself and waiting for it.. :) and i really hope that they allow more countries this time, because in the last event PT players couldnt participate :( :banghead:

It may be worth you guys getting hold of a marketing contact for Sony/PD and asking them to consider your country :)

It's a long shot but it's only going to take 10 minutes to find the address and write the email. Not that long when you consider what you can get in return :P

As long as they don't expect us to drive a 350Z (or a 370Z!) at Eiger again I'd be happy to participate again!

I'm quite interested to see which car combination they will use in the first stage.

I wonder if they'd even use the Citroen GT since it's their "star" car.

I agree,a lot of fast new drivers will come about when GT5 comes out, but still, if they didnt play Prologue, they sure missed out on a lot of practice:)

I hope Steve Guttenberg, the tall dude and the guy who makes noises are in this one.
