Well, I missed out on the 2011 academy. How did it compare to the seasonal events that they run all the time? I know the prizes where different, but were the events any different other than cars and tracks? If you entered it originally, can you still play those events, or are they closed to everyone?

Those are long closed and gone.

Basically it was same track, same car for everyone for each round. Open for a certain amount of time. When each round ended, a certain number of people moved on to the next round and a different track/car combo was posted for them to do it again.

This year is quite different it seems.

GT Academy 2011 was cool to I received a consolation DLC for a dynamic theme and something else that I hardly ever use.

It is long closed. It was really nothing like the current seasonals. The first round consisted of 3 different car/track combos and you had to log laps on all three to be ranked on the overall leader boards. One was a tuned GTR on Cape Ring Full, a street car 350z? on Tsukuba, and another street car 370Z? on Rome Reverse. They provided the car so it couldn't be tuned, most aids were forced off, including driving line. Other than that is was just turn the fastest laps you could, with your best on each being added together for your overall time and placement. Rankings were done by region and all regions together, with region be what mattered when it came to advancing.

If you were in the usa, could you still play the academy, but just not win it? Were they all through the gt 5 game like gt academy 2011?

How did you download the 2011 academy for the usa? I know it was within gt5, but did you have to download it from psn?
Thanks for all the help

Every region had their own package to download, they were supposed to be the same.
And yes, you did get it from PSN.

You could play different region demo if you had a different region account (JP / US / etc.), but as far as I remember the times went to a different leaderboard. So you could only do valid times in your own region.

edit,

sorry, I'm thinking now the 2010 demo. Didn't remember there was a academy last year too  So nevermind.

Were you able to play the european versions of academy in the usa?

Nope.

It popped up in the Seasonal Events area in GT5 for 2011. You did not have to download it from PSN.
