so, how well/bad do you think the winners of gt academy will do in the 24 hour race in dubai? i just saw a challenge from top gear where they raced a 4 year old diesel bmw "race car" in a 24 hour race on silverstone. They finished 3rd in their class (out of 5 :P), and 39 (?) in total. they said without some accidents and a perfectly working car they would finish 10th, now with a nissan GT-R and 4 months of training with professionals the winners of gt academy should be able to do pretty well, where do YOU think they will finish?

Edit: http://video.google.com/videosearch...aq=f#q=top gear challenge&emb=1&aq=f&start=40 thats a link to the top gear episode with the 24 hour race, you can see what kind of supercars they actually are up against

i think they will do ok,

i wouldnt expect anything too much though. They may be very skilled but most of the people they are up against have probably been racing competitively for many many years.

But im sure they will be well prepared and their car will be competitive!

I went to watch the Britcar event yesterday at Brands Hatch.

Schlomer was ill, so didn't partake and they got a highly experienced driver called Alex Buncombe in instead.

There was a mess-up in the pits and Ordonez, who as far as I know had never done Brands before, still looked very good out there. The team gave him maximum running time in the night and he didn't put a wheel wrong. I was very impressed. Did some aggressive moves on a couple of the BMW's and had a great dice with the Elise out there.

A bit too polite in giving way to faster cars, but that's just down to confidence and I'm sure he'll grasp that.

I'll be looking forward to it :)

Just to add a little more to this thread, apologies if this has been reported already (most likely on the front page knowing my luck...) I saw this in a recent edition of Autosport, Nov 27 2008...

"Johnny herbert is to make his return to 24-hour racing in Dubai next month - partnering two novices who learned to race on video games.

Herbert, along with sportscar regular Chris Buncombe, will team up with the winners of PlayStation GT Academy, who won racing contracts after a worldwide competition on the game Gran Turismo 5. Lucas Ordonez from Spain and Germany's Lars Schlomer will line up on the Dubai 24 Hours grid in a Nissan 350Z, having just completed the necessary races to gain an International C Licence.

Herbert said "I've always wondered if virtual racing will transfer. Lars has never raced before recently, and Lucas has done a bit in Spain, mainly karting. It will be tough for them, especially in traffic."

All the best

After my dads training theyll do well :P jk.... but i think Nissan will be very prepared so they should to quite well..

Is there any information on what kind of competition they are likely to get?

Actually, they will be racing a 350Z race car, as far as I know :)

I'm sure they'll be competitive, based on recent results and the skill and determination they consistantly showed @ Silverstone. 24 hours will be a tough one, but I have faith in their driving capabilities, and their ability to withstand pressure.
