GT Championship Advice/Tips

Ok here's the situation:

I am having major problems with that damn Hong Kong Track as usual. I am using the Minolta, and have the Sauber Mercedes as backup, if one doesn't stick with the competition.

I am using Codebreaker Raw codes for tire wear, but they are ice blue, and I am using Racing Super Soft tires to turn better. Unfortunately that does not work to well, since it feels like I am driving on ice, I've strengthen by brakes to stop if I drive too fast, since my car can't turn properly.

Even my B-Spec sucks horribly on the Hong Kong track. Now I can turn off the code for tire wear, but I really use it so I don't pit much, because I really do not know when I need to pit during a race, when my tires start to heat up, I pit but the competition always beat me!

I'll take any advice, but remember I am a cheat device user, and all I ask for are the best tuning tips with and without the Tire Wear code.

Thank you.

All ASM values to zero to improve cornering speeds, qualify first and proceed from there. Those are the normal tips for this track and race, they certainly help you too. Use full downforce to give you extra cornering grip and shortish gears to improve the acceleration.

As a final tip, I don't know if you're trying to run the full championship or not but if not, I'd suggest dumping that Toyota and buying the Chaparral 2J. It'll stick to the road like nothing else and is a great precision tool for that track.

Turn the cheats off. Turn ASM off. Put R1 tyres on the front and R2 tyres on the back. Pit at exactly half race distance (I think this is an odd number lap race, so pit on the lap you pass half race distance) whether you think you need to or not. Win.

I'm with Famine. Turn the stupid codebreaker stuff off. Learn how to do it properly. Lots and lots of practice till you learn your braking & racing lines. The reason you are in the position you find yourself at now is probably because you've been in the habit of relying on cheats rather than skill.

Don't use super-soft tires...they are really just for time trials (where there is no tire-wear) in my opinion. Just look at it this way: lots of people here have managed to win those races the right way (with no cheats or super-soft tires) so it's possible you can do it too. 👍 But it'll take LOTS of practice. Maybe weeks of it. Till you get good. But in the end it'll be worth it.

So far as actual tuning advice goes: i dont have any since i haven't driven those particular cars yet, but some others here might.

Finally, i would forget about letting Bob handle these. 👎 He'll never be able to drive as good as a human. Plus, there's no sense of adventure with B-spec....but whatever....just my opinion,.

Well another reason, I rather let the A.I. race for me because I really can't sit down all day and do all of those laps, they start to get boring eventually.

If I remember rightly, this is a 17 lap race.

You can't sit down for 17 laps? Really?

You're right. Who wants to learn boring stuff like actual braking points, skillful driving, and tearing up some Ai with actual knowledge? Good point. How many "Micheal Schumachers" does the world need, anyways? One is enough. Good point.

Perhaps it's time to dust off the SNES and go back to Mario Kart...the magical realm of non-learning, physics-out-the-window, "i can do anything and win" style-driving. And in that game, you get to collect little magical pellets and race against "Bowzer", as well. Now that's some true racing!

Then I respectfully submit that GT4 (or any GT) is not a game you should bother playing. If you don't like playing it, why bother playing it?

Well if you must know, I like racing games, and I figured I try something a little different from Need for Speed.

Edit: Nevermind, I'll sell it at Gamestop then.

If you don't mind my asking, how much real-life driving experience do you have?

These are real-life driving skills you use in this game, not the Need for Speed blue flames shooting out of your exhaust.

If you are into the idea of simulation racing then I strongly suggest learning it without the cheat codes. You say you were looking for something different than Need for speed, but then put on cheat codes to make it like Need for Speed.

Do you not see the irony in that?

Yeah, me too. I like racing games alot, too. I like Grand Theft Auto as well (when i just wanna screw around). But just so you know--using cheat devices and such is the wrong way to go in GT4 especially. Personally, i'm glad to know cheats ultimately don't work in this game. 👍 Skill does.

I would encourage you not to sell it, once you get the hang of the game it's alot of intense fun. But it's also alot of work & frustration at times. :banghead: We'll all be honest about that. So do what you have to i guess. Sorry if things got a little harsh in this thread.

that's because GT4 is not your ordinary racing game. unlike others such as NFS as you say, they are arcade-like racing games that anyone can easily pick up and play. but no, GT4 is not like that. GT4 is far away from NFS, and any other racing game. GT4 isn't something like, "OMG!! i hit the wall!! gotta use nitrous to catch up/stay ahead" most people say the first time they play GT4 is : "damn, this game is so hard". you say you like racing games, but you don't like nor appreciate THE best racing game of all time? oh, the irony..,

i suggest you play GT4 rather than NFS for now.., you will be able to apply all the skills you will acquire in GT4 on NFS, such as clean overtaking, avoiding walls becoming a "reflex action", and being able to judge corners.., trust me, you will even forget you had N2O on your car.., 👍

Me thinks he's already gone back to GAMEStop to sell it :guilty: Oh well. Can't win 'em all.
