GT Planet Monthly Photographic Contest

OK guys, GT Planet will be starting a new photography competition.
This is not in anyway designed to replace the Automotive competition, in fact the differing rules and timescales involved mean that both should be able to exist side by side.

This will be a monthly competition, with a preset theme, and these themes will be set and announced in advance. The nature of the theme will be kept very loose to allow the maximum possible range of interpretation, and I hope the largest number of entries.

A thread will be opened on the first day of the month for entries to be posted in, and will remain open until the last day of the month. A poll thread will then be created with all entries in it and this will remain open for a week, with the winner announced at the end of that period. A thread of winning pictures will be started, along with the photo the winner will be invited to write a same piece on the picture, what it means to them and the process involved in its creation (if they wish to).

To begin with I would like to trial this over the last full three months of the year, at the end of which, if it works we can carry it over to 2010. If the interest holds, then I would like to have an end of year poll bringing all the winners from the last twelve months (and maybe a few more – thanks to Giles for a ‘runners-up’ idea that may well also be used) to find the GT Planet Photographer of the Year.

As far as rules go I will post them below and they mostly follow the standard ones for the automotive contest, however full use of Photoshop or any other image tool will be allowed, as I would like creativity to run a bit wild in these competitions.

The three themes for the rest of 2009 will be as follows:

October – ‘Seasons’

November – ‘Blue’

December – ‘Family’

As long as, if asked, you can state how your picture fits this theme, you are free to photograph whatever you like (subject to the AUP of course), however you like.

The rules:

-Each competition's voting last for one week, voting will be opened on the first day of the month.

-Entries will open on the first day of the month

-Entries must be in by midnight (GMT) on the last day of the month, no exceptions.

-All entered photographs
must have been taken between January 2008 and the present day.

-Enteries must be posted as a thumbnail without extending 500pixels on the longest side. Full sized images may be no larger than 900pixels on their longest side.

-You must only submit your own photographs, do not post anyone else's work from the internet or if someone you know took the photograph.

-Any watermark you place on your image must be in any corner of the image as long as it does not obstruct the subject of the image.

-Only one photograph per person. You can change your entry, but must remove your current entry first and clearly state that you have posted a new entry.

-You must not vote for your own photograph when the Poll is up. Only vote for a photograph taken by another entrant.

-The photograph must be submitted with the following information: Subject, Location, Date and Camera used.

- No limits regarding the use of Photoshop or any other image processing software will be placed on entries, as long as it’s all your own work, it allowed.

Very cool, I'm in. I like the idea a lot. It will make me go out and try to shoot more, especially things that aren't cars for a change. :D

I like this idea, gives a long time period, so more entries (hopefully). And the long theme period lets us plan the shots well in advance.

That would be one epic poll I must say. The runner-up idea is good, though it has the risk of including some, while excluding others. I guess it would only apply if the entries are very close in the poll results.

GT Planet Photographer of the year...that is a mighty impressive title. It gave me the idea of perhaps totaling up the Automotive Competitions votes and/or number of wins, and see who has the most. But I don't think I will since the participation has been uneven. Maybe for the Model Competition though, since there is always me and NISMO, and I'd like to see who wins that. :sly:

Excellent, seems to have hit the right spot in terms of the rules, themes and general idea.

So everyone knows what the theme's for the three months we have left are, so get planning and be ready for when the first entry thread (for October) opens on the 1st.

Awesomness - although I have no idea how to portray Spring here as it's much like summer really - but then again, this does run for a month.

I'm in.

The theme is Seasons, how you show that in a picture is totaly up to you, and it could be any season - not just the current one. Hell it could be a bloke adding salt and pepper to a meal.

I'm already looking forward to seeing what we get entered in this.
