GT2 licence times

See the thread "Anyone I know here from the old days???" where I threatened to put up my GT2 licence times!
As there may be a remote possibility that anyone is interested, well here they are!
I have all the Replays, which I planned to make available.
(see that same thread again for details)

In the distant past when GT2 was the current version, the licence times on 'racing-line' allowed wallriding. These times of mine used wallriding where it was faster.
I used wallriding for:
IC-04, IC-09, IB-01, IB-09, IA-04, IA-05, IA-07, S-01, S-03, S-05, S-08, S-09

You shouldn't wallride even if it is faster... It's cheating.

I barely bronzed all of mine... I did however fing the Super License the easiest...

I know. I'm amazed racing line allowed it.

I only just found out about it in this thread... Would have made playing the game easier, especially as I was only 9 or 10 when I started playing it...

It's still cheating tho, even if you're 9 or 10. Be thankful you know the difference.

I mean, ask yourself the last time you saw Michael Schumacher wall-ride his way to victory? It never happens! The Ai drives badly at times, and will SLAM a wall, but I have yet to see them specifically drive an entire wall to gain advantage.

It has nothing to do with the lack of damage present in GT2, it's about ethics. Again, I'm amazed racing line allowed it. Perhaps there was a "wallride" classification...in other words, those who chose to drive a wall would have to admit it? Were there license & track times for those who chose NOT to wallride?

Man, I got a headache, now. :ouch:

History of wallriding!

I think it was some South American guy who "discovered" it.
(Ricardo from Argentina???)
Anyway, a few amazing times cropped up from him, especially S1, which could not be done without wallriding. Then more people found out and did wallriding in S1 and other licence tests.
By the time there was a serious discussion about whether it was acceptable or not, the management decided it was too late in the day to ban anyway.
Drivers who had put up times then left, well how could you know if they had used wallriding or not?
When GT3 arrived, there was a vote and it was banned from the beginning.

Purists will be anti wallriding, which is fine.
However, when wallriding is accepted by the group competing with each other, then it is NOT CHEATING
It is only cheating if you use wallriding and claim you didn't.

Wow, what a great story. 👍 And I agree: it's not cheating if everyone is doing it and agrees to do it.

Your A-02 and S-07 amaze me. I was really proud of both my runs, but you beat my A-02 by .2sec and my S-07 by a lot more than that.

How do you manage to stop that Subaru so quickly? I had a full 180 degree spin and slaughtered the gold time, but I still don't compare to you.

In other news: Huzzah! I have all golds!

I've done A-02 in 20.830
I believe that can be done by getting boght leftside wheels on grass,
which causes slowing down and requires stabilising.
Propably engine braking used also and ofcourse spin.
Manually shifting -> find the shift points for maximum speed before braking.

got S 7 , 9 and 10 still only silver

S-9 totally sucked. The standards just seem incredibly high, and the car is really unnatural to drive.

But those other two are awesomely fun!

By the way, what is so special about FTO LM? It is good, but I still prefer my Del Sol.

This is quite unbelievable! Do you know how to achieve this? I've managed to squeeze ~1:02:1, but no less than that I use MT with shortshifting at about 6500-7500 rpm.

Hi A.A.Z.

Checking my replay, I've used MT changing at approx. 7000 - 7500

Hi EA11R

Here's how you beat my A-2 time!
MANUAL !!!
Change up to 4th immediately at the start - this engine has TORQUE.
Don't bother with the gears after this, no need to change down.
Don't spin 180 degrees, you lose time.
Limit rotation to approx. 90 degrees by delicate steering touches as you brake. Like the demo, but I rotate left.

S-7 is seriously difficult.
I drive in a more aggressive style, powering through corners.
Beast of a car makes it very hard to do a perfect run.
Small tip: Unlike the demo, you can keep on full power on the left turn under the second bridge.
As I've mentioned elsewhere, I hope to make my replays available when I get back to England.

I totally forgot about this thread...

What I meant was to be able to see the best racing line, not to use the wallride glitch, LOL.

I never wallride, never have done. I was even younger playing GT1, and even though I spun on every corner, I still refused to wallride when a friend suggested it back then.

Even now at 17 (nearly 18) I still refuse to wallride as I still class it as cheating. I love playing it clean, and going through the game as Kazunori (sp?) intended.

Can someone please tell me what the "Wall-riding glitch" is? Never heard of it in 10+ years of playing Gran Turismo

I don't understand though, how do you ride the walls without going off the road? And what is it advantage anyway?

Incredible time there A.A.Z. , the way you attack the corners is insane.
I have to ask this (since you use emulator to run the game): Did you do it with normal fps?
(sorry to bring this up, but it's really basic when emulators are involved)

MadMax

Thank you :)

Yes I do - though there has been a million unsuccessful tries before this one :) I should say, I have tried to lower FPS indeed (when I was drifting) but I found that quite unhandy, then I realized that you need to learn to drive at lower FPS, so I quickly gave up that idea and concentrated on the normal stuff :)
