Ok ive meant to post this for months, but here it is:
The 1998 mustang GT has the correct specs. The 1999 GT in gran turismo 2 uses the 98s specs, which is completely wrong. The 1999 motor got reworked to produce 260bhp and 302lb ft of torque. Maybe the creaters of GT2 werent so picky about the mustang or were too lazy to program the 99 engine's characteristics i dont know.

Dude maybe UR right but, according to the Ford Staff its the same car the only change it had was the car frame, but what I really hope to see is the 2005 Ford Mustang and the 2005 Ford GT, the stang has now it's old look but bolder and more aerodynamical.

Maybe you should read that message at the beginning of the game that says that cars are not up to specs.

Damn some of you need to look.

Yeah, I wanna see the new Mustang (the one that looks sort of like an old 302 Boss) in GT5, whenever that comes out. That's gonna be sweet!

I just figured they chaeted the Mustang out of any serious power upgrades. Darn Camaro gets over 600hp, the Mustang has to make due with 460hp or so.

The Cobra R is much more fun in GT3, admittedly. Except for that ugly front air-dam.
