Graphics like GT1 if not a little worse.
Number of cars like GT4
Number of tracks like GT4
Allows Body modifications on certain cars like GT1. GT3 and 4 do not.
Sound equal to GT1.

What it boils down to. It's a more cars and tracks version of GT1. But with more bugs. But, I might go as far to say that it was a better addition after GT1. Meaning there was more stuff added compared to the jump from GT3 to GT4.

Comment from Kazunori Yamauchi, GT 1,2 & 3 is same generation...............

How has Gran Turismo improved over the years? Obviously the graphics are stronger, but what else do you feel has really improved with each version of the game?
We've really split the games into two generations. The first three games were from the first generation, but with Gran Turismo 4, and going forward, we're into the second generation. So, if you do something like drive the cars in real life after driving them in the game, only in Gran Turismo 4 will the accuracy truly feel like real life.

Just remember that same generation do not necessarily means it feels the same...............
I like the GT2 most, as I don't care about the graphics much.
Good point.

If you can get past the grainy graphix, GT2 is a lotta fun. There's a whole list of pros & cons, but I'd have to say the best thing is: lots & lots of cars (including many oddballs featured only in GT2 along with the popular autos you've seen in GT1 & 3) and lots of new tracks along with the old standbys. The worst thing besides the garage bug is GT2 is often too easy...money is too easy to earn and so you have to challenge yourself by entering underpowered cars most of the time. But this doesn't bother me much anymore. Most of the people who complain that GT2 is too easy just drive the Escudo and R34 Skyline but neglect the 600 other cars in the game.

I liked GT2. I think I used to spend all day every day playing that sodding game. The only thing I wish GT4 had was the body modifications. With them, any car would look sick, even if it had 53bhp.
