GT2 worth buying?

I ve only been playing GT1 for a couple of weeks now and I was just wondering what GT2 is actually like?

Ive read some reports that say the graphics are no better and some other good and bad things and Ive read other reviews (obviously intended to sell the game) that rave on about how great the graphics and gameplay is etc etc. But I figure this is the best place to get an opinion on the game.

Anyways my question is what do people think of GT2 in comparison to GT1? Is it the same game with a few new cars and a new rally mode? Or is everything significantly better? Do the cars handle differently? Is it a whole new game?

BUY IT!

It is so uncomparable to GT1. How many cars did it have, like 185? GT2 has 600! The graphics are about the same, as with the gameplay. Basically GT1 + 400 cars + replayability = GT2. And it's only like 10 bucks.

I never played GT1, but from what I've seen in the GT1 demo I've got, the car models are somewhat more realistic looking in GT2.

Plus, GT2's got tons of cars, and if you get into hybrid building, you could end up playing the game forever.

yes. buy it. run as fast as your legs can possibly take you, and buy it. buy it now. yes. buy it.

the cars are somewhat more realistic in Gran Turismo, but they're also taller-looking and the tires are complete squares. in GT2, you can buy rims, which was about the coolest thing i heard about it before i bought it. there are well over the amount of cars in GT1, and they come from like 7 countries, instead of 3. the sound is way better, and so are the races (a lot more of them).

GT3 < Money,
get gt2, it'll be great for now.

It has over 600 cars
The graphics are about the same, but the little things like the smoke that you make from burning out, in gt1, it is just little round white things that get bigger, in gt2, it actually looks like smoke

The number of car is the strong point though

I bought it because i got hooked on gt1, so i just had to get gt2,
and i am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo glad that i did!

Thanks guys, that really helps. :D

Well any doubts I had before about GT2 have now been blown out of the water.

- Yeah, that smoke in gt1 does kind of look crap.
- You can buy rims???

One thing I thought was disappointing in gt1 was that unless you race modded your car there was no way to change the look of it. Of course if you race modded it you couldnt enter the tuned car comp. Rims are definitely a start but I guess asking for a bodykit is a bit much?

And yeah 600 odd cars puts a smile on your face :D but youve gotta wonder how they simulated the handling of them all.

It is worth it. GT1 is so limited in comparison. Car physics are better, more tracks, way WAY more cars... I never finished GT1 because somebody bought me GT2 and that was the end. Never went back, never regretted it. Buy it.

Finish up your adventures in GT1, and then come on over for GT2!
(But enjoy the Chaser LM, Silvia LM, and SSR11 while you can, you won't find them in GT2.)

It will be tough to really get the most out of GT2; some of us have been at it for over 2 years...still a thrill!

Oh, and make sure you get both disks.

I went looking quickly for GT2 yesterday in k-mart (I dunno if u guys have it its kinda like wal-mart) and yeah couldnt find it. We have gt3 but Ive never actually seen a copy of gt2 here yet. I wonder if we ever got it....

Yeah, they have K-Mart I do believe.

I've only had GT2 since early 2002.

Do you have game shops that sell used copies? Much cheaper...or find someone who's tired of playing their old PSX games, many just give away their old games.

That's how I found GT1, and how you'll find most PSX titles nowadays.

Woo hoo, free games. :D

I found some guys on the net trying to sell gt2 for 30 bucks, plus 6 bucks postage. In fact I paid $30 for gt1. Funny how a game that cost $2 to copy still sells for that much what 5 (?) years after it came out...

eBay has some really good prices...

I got GT2 at the end of May this year. It was challenging. I liked all the cars I had and end up beating the game 4 days ago. It was awesome. It was worth buying for 15.00.

I brought GT2 for £15 (about 22-23 US$, about 40 Australian $) two years ago. I'm still playing it. I got Driver 2 for Christmas last year, and had finsished it by February. I only got 100.91% last month. Now I'm after the 22B. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever stop playing

No, I dont think you ever will :D

I still only have 1 game for PSX (GT1) lol. Still playing GT1 hard... only just managed to beat the tuned comp... by the skin of my teeth.

People sell stuff really cheap on ebay you can get 2nd hand games there for about $10 which is like $5-8 us and $5 uk. Not bad. We have this big op shop chain called cash converters over here... should find it there.

You can get it at a store like Game Zone used. Don't buy it off Ebay. Ebay is great if you like hassles and waiting and paying shipping. Beware of EBAY!!

but isn't there something like if you beat arcade mode on gt2 yyou get improved graphic quality?

The tuned comp was pretty hard for me too. What car did you use. I used a cerbera of course. In GT-1 there is a mode with improved graphics, it's like time trials,2 laps, and I think it was only at one track, the rt 5. I think you get it once your a world champ or maybe after getting the last liscence. In GT-2 you get a special mode after you pass the super liscence test, no improved graphics but challenging. 5 race event, 5 laps, random track selection including reverse course, A.I. matches cars to whatever car you are driving, has easy, medium, and hard levels of play. The graphics are smoother, pop-up is less, and they really did a great job with the transitition in shades of light.

I think I ended up using the stage 3 turbo (about 644 hp) gto twin turbo. Tried it on stage 4 and couldnt control it. It was the one comp I had real problems finishing... apart from the final gt cup but that was easy once I tried the gts-r.

Cerberas are beautiful cars but I found in stock form TVRs tend to lose traction at the real wheels way too easy... the [r] cerbera you win is very satisfying to drive tho'.

1. Winning all arcade races on hard won you hi-res mode which was the option to time trial special stage route 11, special stage route 5, or clubman stage route 5 in a mode with less objects, lower draw distance, but higher frame rates.
2. Winning all the GT races in sim mode (e.g. sunday cup) got you exactly the same thing except it was called "GT Hi-Fi"

No, but you unlock the arcade credits, and all the tracks (forward and reverse) for future use. I was so bored of beating the AI arcade cars, that I changed the lap requirements to 1.
