The one thing that would make this website complete is a best laptime register for all tracks in GT3. I use to log onto a GT1 website which had this function(top 10 times per tack). My mates and I had so much fun trying to keep up and out do them. I remember spending days trying to go under the 1 minute mark at Trial Mountain. Each person who posted included the track name, control type, car and best single lap time. If you thought you were **** hot on a particular track you were garanteed that some would have already gone quicker by 2-5 seconds. Later you discovered the posted time was achievable by countless hour's practice and car setup. I found it a much more challenging way to play GT then blowing the doors off the computer cars in simulation mode. Surprisingly the top 10 times included a variety of different cars. Some more predominant on certain track types. The only change required for GT3 would be to separate the F1 and GT1 cars from the rest. This would allow a greater pool of cars to participate.
If your a harcore GT racer I think its the second best way to play GT3 after ilinking with your mates.

Any ideas of suggestions to make it happen. I'm not very technical with websites but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard.
Jordan - any input?

First of all, welcome to GTPlanet! A feature such as this would be loads of fun, but I don't think I could write the backend software needed to make it happen. Of course, if there's any more knowledgeable PHP (or Perl) programmers reading this...please let me know. :)

Hey Jordan,
I'm a PHP developer an a big Gran Turismo fan. I don't know if I'd commit to doing the whole thing, but I'd defeinitely be interested in working on it.

Hey! Welcome to GTPlanet.

I don't know that the whole thing could be done with PHP. It would need an sql database to put and pull information from. I'm sure with a little research one of us could find a quick template that could at least get us going.

That's a GREAT idea! But how do you know if people aren't just b*ll****ting their times?

Yup, thats what I was thinking too... I had already started designing a site called 'GTOR' or 'Gran Turismo Online Racing', using a Database system, where people could signup and login to submit new times and maybe even make a stat system where When you 'win' a race held by getting the best time, you get a little cup pic in your profile, or just something saying 'winner of midfield cup 2001' etc...

However, theres just that big problem of having people submit bogus times. Yup, there'll be those quality drivers and people great at setting their car up just right, getting awesome times. But they'd also be you average 11 year old kid, who thinks he's sooo cool that he just submitted a time 10 seconds faster than the greatest drivers could do.

Either way though, if it did work it should in theory rule. You could have races open for like 1 day and throughout the day if someone got a better time they could submit it and then go off and try to improve it and submit their new one etc.

oh well,

Paul J
