GT4 cars look best

when they're "liveried". Watching a replay of one of the race cars is amazingly life-like compared to a regular car - something to do with the inability to render a slab of metal convincingly (same thing in Forza). Which is one of the reasons why it'll be nice to have more visual customization in GT5...

Do you mean the race cars that have several colour options like the Mazda RX-7 LM and the Renault Clio Sport Trophy?

I think Biggles is talking about racing cars looking more detailed than normal cars. It's simply because they're liveries are more complicated so PD put more effort in to their realism, with the others they just select a single colour for the whole thing and not much time is spent on it.

Or it could be more to do with the fact that blocks of different colours are easier to get right than the metal reflections, etc, that you have to deal with when rendering one-colour cars - race-liveried cars need less effort with complicated things like metallic effects, and so look more realistic.
