Please add me to the list.

Lost my first game ~45% all licenses done, most missions. Had absolutlely no backup. I believe the card was corrupted from powering down the PS2 during an autosave.

Couldn't play the game for a few months after that. Turned off autosave (which only decreases the autosave frequency), and bought a back up card.

For those who this has happened to more than once, this phrase comes to mind:

'Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me'

The moral of this story? Buy a backup memory card! :)

That phrase is wrong.

You can't predict when your game is going to go corrupt. You could have it go corrupt, start again, go out and buy a back up memory card, and just have the file go corrupt again.

I don't back mine up, cause when it DOES get currupted, I can just restart. I really have no problem with restarting, I think it's fun.

I sure hope I'll neve become a member of this club...:)
Just to be sure I make backups on regular basis... It would be terrible to waist all those A-spec points...:scared: :nervous: :scared:
I'm sure I couldn't go for it again...

Not true. If you buy a backup card and regularly make a backup of the game file on it, you will always be able to restore your current progress. As long as you have 2 files, you can always be safe, because it's unlikely that you will suffer from two data corruptions in a row. :sly:

It happens. Files can go corrupt while you are transferring them, sadly, but, like you said, very rarely.

I have two ways to back up files.
1st - To my PS2 hard drive, this seems to be the quickest way.
2nd - To my PC using CodeBreaker, and a USB pen drive, I can back files up on a computer than no one really uses, including myself, so they are pretty safe.

Both of which are alternatives to just buying a second memory card.

And both are more expensive.

But a computer is less likely to fail than the memory card, especially when it's not being used.

It seems that most problems concerning corrupt data are caused by human errors and not failing memory cards. I think it's perfectly save to backup to a second card, and there's no real need to buy expensive gadgets to get the files to your computer, unless of course you want to keep an extensive history.

Good news everyone :D My data never corrupted. After getting the red dial after winning races, and coming on here, did some research within this site and found that everyone is right. Turn OFF Autosave!! After switching it off, I've never gotten the red load dial again and my game seems to be running fine now. All my other games are fine for now that have the autosave feature left on. My guess is it's a glitch in the coding of the game causing this corrupt data thing to passed around. OR another way for Sony to make money off selling more Memory cards for the PS2

And both are more expensive.

Codebreaker = $20, USB Pen drive = Free (I got mine with my computer) and most people already have a USB pen drive.

New PS2 Memory card = Roughly $30.

So, how is it more expensive, if it is cheaper? :)

Now, I use my hard drive to play games, you save to the drive for faster loading times, less CD errors (because you don't use a CD), so on, but it just so happens to allow you to back up memory cards, so, I am able to use that.

Ok...nevermind then...:dunce:

I got 2 memory cards for 30 dollars, and they are Sonys, but I already have an MP3 Player that can be used as a USB drive. I though Codebreakers were a bit more than $20.

Or any other MP3 Player, I would have gotten an iPod for last Christmas, but every single store was sold out in the area, so my dad bought me a sweet Samsung YH-920 which had like 3 months of Napster free :D, it wasn't as good as an iPod, but at least the battery doesn't deteriorate :sly:

I read somewhere that iPod batteries deteriorate after awhile.

Nice to see Opendriver hasn't updated the list yet...

Yup it does. My 3G 15GB iPod originally had 8 hours (and that's already short) when it was new; now it has somewhere of around 4 hours, and that's just listening to whatever that comes up next...no skipping songs at all.

I might need a replacement battery soon.

I hear they could cost half or more of what you paid for the entire package, just for the battery :scared:

I moslty litsen to mine when I'm at the gym, before basketball practice just shooting around, and when I'm in bed. It will typically last for about 2 nights (~16 hours) and that is awesome, IMO.

What generation iPod do you have?

I have the third generation iPod with 4 buttons on the top and a round wheel. It's heat sensitive, which is pretty cool. If I want to replace the battery I won't have to send it in to Apple; now I can buy an iPod replacement battery at Best Buy for $40 which is heck of a better deal than paying Apple to do it. And it's a high-capacity battery too, not just another 8 hour battery.

I used to use my iPod while sleeping but now I have a second mp3 to do that job so now the iPod is reserved for going outdoors only.

P.S. - I think someone should create a mp3 thread to talk about our mp3's, cause we're going off-topic a LOT here :P

mine corrupted. dont know when. dont know how. hust did. i have a back up but its from way way way before i started really doing anything. there goes hours trying to find certian cars, different versions in thr used car lots. all my cars with drift setups set too my liking just gone.

know that im over it all i have to say is whatver. atleast i can truly try to beat the game now.

i've only got the game a couple of months ago and had just started to get the hang of the game and using the dfp. i had almost all gold licenses some cars tuned (which is a great accomplishment to me since ime just a beginner and having found a great setup for me ;]) uhmm yeah that's about it for the first time i got corrupted. it took me a while to start all over again. i didn't seem to want to start over again and just ignored the game for a week or so. Then, finally i got back into the game with more accomplishments than before. all gold licenses, hours of endurance races. lots of prize cars and loads of money. Then this morning i turned on my ps2 ready to play gt4 when the screen said "loading failed" o.o it's not the same as last time when it said "game corrupted". if i check the memory card on the ps2 browser the gt4 file seems complete and uncorrupted taking up 1984 kb? or something space which is how much the game needs. i tried to copy it on another memory card but it also fails to copy the file. maybe it's just my ancient ps2 that i've had for yearsss o.o no? i hope it is because i don't want to start over again and school just started so i have no time.

I don't know for sure if this would work but you can try it. Use another PS2 memory card and try to copy it from your first memory card to memory card 2. Then after that you can delete it of the memory card 1 and put the file thats on memory card 2.

That will also work...

Put me in the list. My mom got angry at me since I WRS'ed too much today... so she pulled the plug while I was saving. Luckily, I had my save over at a friend's MemCard, so now I can play again - only slight losses of some cash and some Special Conditions missing...
