GT4 -- my 'best times' aren't being saved, or keep being reset. Help?

Hi, I've just started playing GT4 and for some reason my best times on the license tests are reset to 0:00:00 everytime I come back to the game. Why is this? I am in Gran Turismo mode and am passing license tests, but none of my stats stay. Same goes for the tracks. Whenever I power down my console, the next time I turn it on all my stats are gone.

Also, I was wondering what happened with the horsepower on my cars. I did the oil change as soon as I received a car, and got a little bump in the HP. then I turned off the console and came back the next day, and the HP was back to the original level.

(I do have a save game for my Gran Turismo career, which is gets automatically loaded when I turn on my console.)

Does anyone know how to fix these things? Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks. Please give clear step-by-step instructions as I'm new to all this and things that may seem obvious to experienced players are probably not obvious to me. Thank you

In the options, you must have the "save automatically" feature turned off. Either you can turn it on, or you can save manually when you finish playing, either from the "home" screen in Gran Turismo Mode or from the main menu, below Arcade, GT, Replay Theater, and Options. :)

Thanks for the reply.

Save automatically is on though.... whenever I fire up my game, all my accomplishments and trophies are just as I left them at the end of my previous session. The gold, silver, bronze awards for license tests, the road challenges etc are all correct. Only thing that is not being saved is the times. Is there a separate place I have to go to save the times? Does a separate save file have to be created for best times?
