Assuming the SCEA release of GT4 won't include network play like its Japanese counterpart, this free service will be the primary piece of tunnelling software used to play GT4 online.

Before you can play, you will need several things:

1. High speed Cable/DSL internet.

2. A router OR a second network card (generally cheaper).

3. A PS2 modem.

..and most importanly.

4. The game (as far as I know, all versions are compatable with all other versions).

Now, if you feel you are computer competent enough and plan on buying and setting up these items (the xLink site explains how), please register a username on the xLink site and make an appropriate post on this thread.

Note: your username will be the same on xLink as it is on the xLink forums.

Good luck getting your GTP name on the site.

Just a another foreword: Battles/races can be organized on these forums and followed through with xLink.

By PS2 Modem....you are referring to the PS2 Network Adapater right?

If so, I've got all the required parts except the game (U.S. version)

Thx-

I've already tried out X-Link Kai, it works quite well, played 16 player Halo 2 with minimal lag, too bad it doesn't work with GT3 i would surely be on there. Works great with PGR2, just make sure you have DSL at 1.5Mbps or faster to support more than 2 players.

you gotta mean network adapter, also, even if they versions are compatbile it doesn't mean anything, you can't play anyone with out at least a 40 MS ping. so that means that you're limited to people in your state, or worse.. your city.. and in the worse case scenario, your ISP.

i don't have an online-adaptor but i ask myself, is a online-adaptor realy worth buying???
Is it realy worth the money???

online adapter is only like... $20USD.... which is 10pounds, i don't know what you use in the netherlands :-P. Euros ? nor do i know the conversion rate to Euros. But i am saying that they are very cheap these days. you can find em on ebay very cheap. and is it worth it ? i think 20bux is worth being able to play GT4 online against real people from the comfort of your own home !
later-

yes we use euro in... europe

But isn't it so that there will come an add-on that has the online function so you can play versus other high bandwidth players?

I guess you didn't see this post about the pending xLink optimazations for GT4 👍 .

that won't change anything, the LAN code is synced, which means there's no lag tolerance at all, this means the players get to suck up any lag there maybe (you may experience laggy controls if your ping isn't low enough, and pretty much unplayable games with 80+ pings)

no ammount of "optimizing" can change that fact, you will NOT be able to play anyone with an 80+ ping with good results. (fact is, people with 50 ms pings can't get a lag free game)

Hmmm SaintKamus...Really? I guess time will tell. :sly:
I must admit that I am curious as to why you are so sure of this. How can you assure us of anything you've said. Do you work for PD? Do you have the game and analyzed its network protocol? - or- Are you making a best guess?

My point is that without concrete evidence it's unfair to discourage others in this fashion (eg. making factual statments above) unless you are an authority on the subject matter or have proof.

Besides, it is at least possible that the xlink optimizing could reduce the ping time.

:)
