GT4 on PS3 a possibility

Superfluous. The GT4 DVD disc should probably run on a PS3. If not, do GT4 PS3. If GT4 PS3 comes to existence, give it all the cars from GT PSP that weren't in GT4 PS2 and call it GT4 1/2.

Wrong.
The fact that you've said "probably run" in your post means that you've obviously got no evidence to back this up, and therefore your post is in itself superfluous. :dunce:
Get your facts straight before attacking someone else's information. :sly:

The answer is in this thread: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=101308&highlight=compatability in terms of PS3 compatability with GT4 DVD.

The story he's quoting is the benefit of possibly putting GT4 onto BlueRay so that the people whose PS3s are not compatible with PS2 DVDs can still enjoy the game, and is thus not in any way superfluous, but reasonable information that shouldn't be met with such a condescending attitude.

Thanks for the link SgtWhitten 👍

I would love to see GT4 on Blu-Ray, or at least made compatible with later ps3s (I own one without backwards compatibility). But I don't really see this happening, those games that are being reproduced on Blu-Ray have HD graphics updates. GT4 was originally produced to be HD compatible (at least the US NTSC version can display in 1080i, I don't know about other regions), so re-releasing it would seem redundant. Plus most, if not all, GT4 cars will probably end up in GT5, so this seems like it would be quite a waste of time for PD.

I think that what iluvgt4 was trying to say is that the PS3 can read the data from the GT4 DVD, or any other DVD, and just transferring it to a bluray disc wouldn't change the fact that most PS3s can't emulate a PS2.

If all versions of the PS3 could emulate a PS2, then transferring GT4 to a bluray would be superfluous as you could just leave it on the DVD.

The only reason for Sony converting GT4 to a bluray is so that they could make us all buy it again.

My PS3(80gb.version) is backwards compatible and still plays PS2 games... it wont play PS3 games right now because the bluray laser is shot, so its nice to go back and play some older games. Plus I'm glad I downloaded GT5:P so I can still play that too.

I think the answer is, if your PS3 can play PS2 games. Mine doesn't. End of conversation.

Because GT4 was already built for HD it would look amazing if it were converted and air brushed a bit with some AA. I would definitely re buy if it was released on blue-ray or as a PSN download, they did mention in the article that they are looking into other methods to sell PS2 classics.

Well...let's see:

God of War Collection
Sly Collection
Ico Collection (in talks would have Ico and Shadow of the Colossus on it)

All really big and highly successful titles. I wouldn't be surprised if Yoshida was talking with Kaz about possibly releasing a Gran Turismo Collection. The problem though is that would be the LARGEST collection ever. It's be cool though. GT1-4 in Full HD with 3D, Eye, and Trophy support. I'd buy it.

It would be fairly hard to get a licence for some of the cars from GT2 (in particular), though. Not impossible, mind, but hard enough that Sony probably wouldn't bother.

Speaking of High Definition for PS2 games... is there any kind of cord(s) for the PS2 that are or are like an HDMI cable for a 1080p widescreen television?

Some of the cars they still have the licenses for...like Vector.

I have no idea. I know the PS2 and PS3 cables are interchangable, but I don't think you'd be able to use Xbox cables with your PS3

Ok. No problem there. I probably would have guessed possible with using PS3 AV cables for my PS2.

Maybe they have the licence for Vector. The incredibly messy legal battle that took place over ownership of the company right after GT2 came out may or may not preclude any of the legal stuff that the company agreed to while under control of the former owners. Ditto Venturi, which went bankrupt (again) around the time GT3 came out and is currently almost a completely different company.

Again, I'm not saying any of this is definite either way, but that same ambiguity could very well be enough for Sony not to try anything.

Well, Vector is back to owning themselves, though. And it'd be awesome to see the WX-8 in. or the Lamboghini powered M12.

And...only PD and EA have ever gotten the right to put them in a game...so....who knows.

In term of connecting a PS2 to HDTV or monitor you can use a Component to VGA cable if your screen has VGA support, I've been looking at it for a while. I really want to play GT4 on my HD monitor, damn removal of BC.

Essentially, this is already being done. Gran Turismo 5 has been confirmed to feature every car lifted straight from the series' beloved fourth iteration. ;)
