GT4 Problems with Steering Wheel

Hi all

I have just taken delivery of a shiney new steering wheel for my PS2. (I say new its Second Hand New). I am having a really frustrating problem that when playing it locks the wheel, I cannot steer is common, just randomly while racing or it pauses the game & switches view all on its own.
The wheel I have its a Thrustmaster 360 Moderna with Feedback.

Also how does GT4 know that I'm using a steering wheel? I have tryed modifing the buttons under the menus but nothing happened, in the end I found it thinks its a controller rather than a wheel & pedals & I had to modifiy the button layout there insted. I think this might be the problem with the error I have about but I've read the manual that came with GT4 & turned up nothing. :grumpy:

I have a similar problem with the above wheel which I'm told is supposed to be detected by the ps2 as a Driving Force Pro. The problem is, I can use the wheel only in the Options menu of the game. When I leave the options setup, the game will no longer accept input from the wheel or buttons, only the dual shock controller. Did you figure out how to get the game to allow the wheel to be setup as a controller in the end? 'cause I can't find any information on how to get it to work in the gt4 manual or on any web forums. Btw, my name is also Ross! Perhaps the PS2 just hates the name? =)

Try not using the controller at all, have wheel plugged it before you turn the PS on wheel should move when console comes on and also when game is loaded. I was having the same thing happen to myself (using G25wheel). Use you d-pad to move in game. Remember unplug you controller. I'm playing on a PS3. select the DFP as your wheel, I also changed the nitro button with the look back button as I use the shifter on the right hand side. The only thing I can't do with the wheel is to exit to console main menue (exit game) for this I turn the controller back on to exit.

Thanks for the reply. I did try this before and the wheel does move to calibrate when the game loads up. However, when there is no controller plugged in I can 't use the D-pad on the wheel; the wheel's controls only operate in the Options section. I had to load the options screen using my DVD remote which the game still considers to be my primary controller. How do I specifically select the wheel as my primary controller? Is it blindingly obvious? Am I just being stupid?
