OK. I searched the forums but could not find anything with regard to this issue. Though I did find other topics to follow up on.

I've been playing GT4 on the PS3 and wanted to record some of the replays using my computer as I've done in the past with my PS2. All replays saved on the PS2 have worked fine as expected. However, all replays which were saved on the PS3 and then replayed on the PS2 end up in failure. What happens is what appears to be a timing issue. The vehicle eventually just losses it's place on the track and gets stuck against a barrier or some other object. This reminds me of the explanation given as to why replays from an NTSC/PAL system could not be replayed on the opposite system. Just in case, both my PS2 & PS3 are NTSC units.

Just for thoroughness I replayed a saved race originally created & saved on a PS2 on the PS3 and to my dismay, the same issue occurred.

I know the immediate solution is to lug the PS3 over to my computer in order to capture the replay, however that is not a long term practical solution for me. Yes, I'll still plan to be playing GT4 5 years from now. ;-) I still play games on an original NES and other "classic" systems. ;-)

Could someone else try and replicate this? I don't think Sony/PD would see this as a problem of significant importance to fix, but I'd like to rule out the possibility that it is something on my end.

PS3 Firmware: Ver 2.20

I've tried it the other way you mentioned, I had replays saved on a PS2 on my memory card when I copied it to the PS3. And I can confirm your findings, the replay won't play correctly. The timing difference isn't big but it's big enough.

If you have a look here you'll see GT4 shows up as...

SCES-51719 GRAN TURISMO 4 *

And the Key at the bottom of the page says

KEY
*** No known issues to date
** Should play on PLAYSTATION®3 with some minor issues
* Should play on PLAYSTATION®3 with noticeable issues

So that probably has a lot to do with it.

EDIT: Just realised your in the US! Have a look here for known issues. It depends on what PS3 you have (60GB or 80GB), cos the 60GB US and Japanese versions still use the Emotion Engine & Graphics Synthesiser to play PS1/PS2 games, but the 80GB PS3 and UK 60GB PS3 do it entirely on emulation, so its not as reliable as using the Emotion Engine/Graphics Synthesiser found in 60GB US PS3's, hence there are more known issues with some games when playing them on a 80GB PS3 or UK 60GB PS3 (GT4 being one of them).

I added my hardware information to my sig, not sure why it doesn't show up. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. I have the 80GB version after desperately trying to find a 60GB due to the very reason you mentioned regarding the EE & GS. Oh well. :( I guess I should by a few PS2's to keep in stock just in case. ;-)

Unfortunately I missed that boat. :( So I am now recording PS2 saved replays from the PS2 and then I'll go and record the PS3 saved replays from the PS3 soon as I can find a stable place other than the floor to place the machine on. :)
