GT4 Worth Buying?

Seems good price! Do you own any other GT? If not, you're in for a treat. I've had it for more than 2 years and still play.

The price is good, I'd go for that if you know the PS2 hasn't been modded or screwed around with. I've had GT4 for over 5 years, and I still boot it up a lot, even though I'm more into GT3 right now. If you go for it, good luck on Mission 34. Just saying.

I would have to buy GT4 along with a PS2.
about ~ $60

Do you have GT5?

I really, really enjoyed it. It would keep you entertained for ages as the career is really long allthough it may feel a bit 'dead' if you know what I mean.
Physics are okay, graphics were amazing at the time, and the AI is terrible as you would expect. The biggest problem for me is rather predictably the sound. :yuck: With all these shortcomings though I'd still recommend it - especially if you are up for a challenge. GT4 has lots of things that puts GT5 to shame.

Is there any other PS2 games you would consider playing too? I wouldn't buy a PS2 just to play GT4 alone if I were you.

And remember, it is an old game that most definitely shows it's age.

Oh, and GT4 has absolutely the biggest and most varied line-up of tracks of any GT! A grand total of 50, with the only game in PS2 to feature Nordschleife.
If only GT6 follows this tradition. As Mark from CGR says "You really feel like James Bond travelling the world driving exotic cars."

Nico, you also absolutely should play MGS3: Subsistence. I bought my copy for 15 bucks! And the thing is Boss!

Here's a fun fact (also considering buying GT3 and GT4, maybe GT 1&2 if I'm feeling retro!), I can purchase GT4 *NEW* for $30AUD, I can get GT3 for... $3 I think? And I can get GT4 used for $8. Don't know, there's something about buying it new though, it has a certain appeal, like time travel somehow :D

Anyway, my only limitation is how do I use my wheel rig, which I currently use at my computer desk, so I need to get my PS2 to my DVI monitor, and I think the best solution I have so far is a RGB to DVI converter (I have a RGB PS cable of course), but otherwise, yeah I'm going to get it man!

EDIT: GT3 is obviously used, so the maximum I could spend is $33 for the premium GT4 and used GT3, or go cheapo and spend only $11 for both games, pretty crazy.

I just rebought GT4 and I say yes. I love the nostalgia and driving Infineon. I use it on my PS3 though. I highly suggest it.

I still play GT4 while GT5 sits there unused for a couple months now. The game is much richer than its successor.

Currently rerunning the British GT series in an attempt to obtain a Jaguar E-Type in British Racing Green.

I got it at the color the first time! Not the case with Formula GT though, that came in purple...

The price is good and the game is awesome! GT4 is one of the few games that never stayed in my shelf for more that a month. You can play it for months and still have new things to do. The graphics are amazing for a ps2 game. If you have a little more money to spend I recommend other race games like GT3, which is a great game but has a lot less tracks, cars and races to do than GT4. Some people say that the physics and graphics are even better in GT3 (I'm not one of them).
And with a PS2 you have thousands more games to play! I absolutely recommend it. 👍

Well I bought GT3 and GT4 today, and I have mixed feelings.

I can understand why there are so many people 'raging' about the lack of content ported from GT3 & GT4, because I think there's heaps missing.

The Hong Kong track, several Australian vehicals, ect, it goes on and on, I mean the units in GT4 can be specified 'individually' which is fantastic, I have it just as I want it, Kilometers, BHP and Lb ft, for distance, power and torque, GT5 is lacking in SO many ways now, its amazing.

Look, I love GT5, its a great game, idc if some believe its 'broken' or unfinished or whatever, its not, it should have more of the things from both of its older PS2 siblings, but I think overall it is still the best, despite my new found respect for both GT3 and GT4.

GT3, is exactly what I imagined, graphics are appropriate, seems right between PS1 and PS2 graphics, the controls leave much to be desired, and without my GT5 seasonals, the 1-player game will last me a long long time - and all for $3, bargin if you ask me, its only a pity that my wheel will be all but useless, I think it even has the most difficult AI, possibly due to the control difficulties, but overall, great game.

GT4, is much more than I thought, extremely impressed by the graphics (makes the jump to PS3/GT5 seem quite quaint, albeit still improved), controls are virtually identical (to GT5 imo), several improvements in the settings, and most importantly, the A-Spec is the best of all 3 of the games, the Sunday cup as 5 events! Fantastic! I only had 10k to start with, but I spent it on a Civic Type R '98, and I owned it, was great fun, and I have a good feeling my Driving Force GT wheel will work very well, may or may not use my G27 as well/ instead.

GT5 is quite derivitive from 'both' of these games, while its superior, I feel its a refinement, a revolution rather than an evolution, one that is not doubt beyond its PS2 counterparts, physics is the most improved for sure, graphics next, but I am surprised at how limited some of the things in GT5 are, when compared to the content and settings from the earlier games.

I would buy GT4 new/used, knowing what I know now, if GT4 was only available new to me (for $30, I bought the last used copy for $8), I would buy it again no questions asked. I'm not sure about GT3, I am curious about importing 100,000cr from GT3 to GT4, but considering how much easier/familiar GT4 is, I'm not sure I want to spend all that time on GT3, chances are I will anyway.

So there's my initial report, as a GT5 addict coming to both of these games with only that experience, I like them. Tomorrow I'll be using my wheel with both games on my newly acquired wheelstand, and I suspect to get many hours out of both games, but I get the feeling I'll enjoy GT4 a bit more than GT3.

If I could buy only one of the Gran Turismo series, I would buy Gran Turismo 3. The best GT IMO.

I will agree with you partially. The way I see it:

Best overall : GT5
Best compromise between realism and fun: GT3
Best tracks: GT4

I guess I will have to agree with you too. GT4 had the best track ideas, GT3 had the best fun, but I guess GT5 is only better for realism.

I suppose I'm in the minority then, because I feel that GT4 is head and shoulders above GT3 and GT5. The best mix of tracks (although GT5 does have Monza) and a much richer gaming experience are two of the biggest reasons why.

GT3 just didn't do it for me, for some reason. I loved GT2 and felt that other than graphics of course, being on a new console, GT3 was a step backwards in most ways.

In my opinion I didn't like GT4 because drifting was impossible compared to other GT's in the series. But I do have to agree that GT4 has the best range of tracks and if all of these tracks were in GT5 then GT5 would be the best in the series (despite the dodgy engine noises and soundtracks) .

GT4 best track selection (omg El Capitan!!)
GT5 best car selection (& HD awesomeness)
GT3 best gameplay challenge (Still trying to get all golds in license tests 11years on!!)

Don't forget Hong Kong, and so far as I can tell the A-Spec is better too!
