WHAT IS IT?
The WRS Photomode Competition allows WRS'ers the opportunity to show their Photomode skills. You're task is to create a picture that can be used for the Week 108 results thread. At the end of the week all entries in this thread will be judged by myself or by the previous winner (previous winner must pm me before the race deadline if he/she wants to determine the winner) and a new winner will be determined.

WHAT ARE THE RESTRICTIONS
The only restrictions placed on the photo you create are:
  • Photo must be 600 x 450 pixels
  • Photo must relate to the Week 108 race
  • Photo must contain the phrase "WRS Week 108 Results"
  • Photo must be submitted before Tuesday the 22nd May
And that's it! Only one photo per competitor but feel free to update your entry during the week 👍

So what are you waiting for........get out there and start racing and/or snapping some pics :sly:

since no one said the picture should be from the game, i used an ad from when this tank was marketed.

I always think of handling when I think of Lotus. That ad doesn't mention anything about the handling... its been a long time since I drove a Carlton in GT4.

I can hardly see wrs week 108 results as there's so much text, also it's not the right size

thanks for the comment :sly:

i thought the fun of it was that the next blends into the ad so nicely, and who made any rules on the type size to be used in photocomp pics? :dopey:

I don't think the type size is what Kelly is talking about. I may be wrong (wouldn't be the first time) but the photo size needs to be 600x450. Just an observation.

Yep, I couldn't care less what size of font you use :dopey:

Just wanted the horses on the pic.:)

I'm busy in getting a photoshop program.:)
I hope in a week to get it.

Nice setting and all, but perhaps a darker image with more contrast would be better? It looks flat and boring, despite a wonderful angle and subject.

I can never get good colour and lighting in my pictures. When I alter it in Photoshop it looks crap...I feel like I get good shots but can't get them looking as colourful or interesting as other people. Some tips from folk would be awesome!

I always adjust Contrast and Brightness at the same levels - say, if Contrast is +20, then Brightness usually works +15. Depends, as always, on the picture in the first place.
Then I add a liiitle saturation - too much makes fuzzy spots appear. I adjust the colors a few spots if neccesary, and usually I leave the "Lab Brightness" thingy at stock levels.
I use "Curves" sometimes - usually a snake-like curve that decreases brightness for the lower levels, and increases it for the brighter areas. Usually works out well.

Well the Contrast and Brightness and Saturation are the 3 main things I muck around with but in the picture above, any further mucking around would have made it appear either dull or fake. When I took the original photo in GT I left the light levels at 0. What do others do?

I usually shoot at +0.3, then adjust the brightness a little more in Photoshop. I find that above +0.5, the game starts to make it look too flat, and photoshop can only get you that far.

Its tough getting it right, but the picture should never be too bright...

If you are going to do adjustments in Photoshop to deal with enhancing color & contrast & such. Don't even consider touching the Brightness/Contrast adjustment. Yes it is a bit better in CS3 than in the past, but the main thing you should still deal with are Levels/Curves.

For increasing contrast duplicate your main image, set the new layer's blending mode to "Multiply" and drop the opacity so that you don't lose detail. There's a lot of other things you can do, such as layer masks & such to selectively add effects.

Here's an example of a photo I took during the 87th race with the Amuse Spoon.

Added Color to Background:

Well I've added an updated version, still not 100% happy but I'm slowly working it out 👍

Now that I have a thumb drive, figured I'd have something to do. And what I've realized is that really, I need to stop doing things in photoshop. It was certainly tough though this week, the whole black car & a track that's not very colorful other than a few points here & there.

I found some time to get one in this week also :)
