Not many submissions this week, due to GT Mode, a difficult race and the beginning of the JGTC season. Big congrats to the 18 racers who managed a clean lap on this tricky combo.

Wow, great work all...

I had just shown up to find a post by Cyril so I could PM him my submission (last minute lap to just get up on the board).

Luckily I was late.
Ran very little this week but just enough to get down to under 1'43. Even though that seemed like a good lap to me, I can see that it was way off par with all of the division podiums. :ouch:

In any case, good luck next week everyone!
Hopefully I will be able to submit before the results are posted.

Congrats on the win jake 👍 .001 :nervous: and well done to everyone who ran in what was a very difficult race.

here's my replay (PAL) i think it's the right one, if not i'll sort it out tomorrow:

Wow... Nearly 5 seconds back... Oh well, only put in an hour or so including tuning. Amaizngly low turnout, but it was a tough track to drive clean, plus tuning.

Yup, in no for JGTC I would've spent a LOT of time here. Great combo, no time.

-SHig

p.s. ONE THOUSANDTH of a second between 1 and 2 in D2! OMG!!

Not a bad effort I guess. Congratulations to Randy McC for getting me by .008 (I don't count Dan anymore, he's just ghey)

I'll post my replay when I get back, it is just downright scary how close I get to the right hand arch on the first hairpin, 1mm more and I would of hit it. As it was, I think almost my entire mirror passed through it.

Great combo, only the 2nd GT combo I've liked in....~40 submissions.

Well I found this a fun combo 👍 and despite my lap being 0.058 off needing submission...it's going up anyway :) And how about that D2 podium, that's some scary stuff :scared: Onto the wet....giddy up!!!

OMG!!! 0.001 seconds difference between 1st and 2nd place in Div. 2!!! Jake73 and ROB_256R -- what an AWESOME competition this week!

Holl01 gives his usual AMAZING performance!! 1.2xx seconds ahead of the 2nd best time in Div. 1!!! You really must've loved this combo! There's just no competing with you! ;) (I really wish I could view PAL replays!! I've just GOT to see this one. If anyone can convert it to Video I'd be very grateful.)

And my 2nd week in a row with a podium! And my first 1st-place finish in Div. 3!! Wow!! The 300+ miles of practice paid off, I guess. :) Fun combo Cyril! I voted a 3 on this one just because of the difficulty in obtaining a truly clean lap... Otherwise I'd have given it a 4.

And where's Filizola's time? Did he forget to submit?

Here's my replay: (NTSC Format, of course.) Enjoy!

Couldn't take part in this one - still fixing my laptop (finally fixed - defective RAM, meh!) and not well the past few days either (still not 100% either :ill: ). Huge shame as I really love Citta di Aria. :(

Congrats to everyone who entered though. 👍

Suzie

Although I didn't compete (GT mode and all....) I'd like to congratulate all the Division winners,
holl01 no real surprise, :P
jake73 excellent job for your first win, bloody close though!
and Laurence5905 for a 3rd win in a row! 👍

Thanks!! I'd forgotten that I actually won week 50 -- even though I didn't get a Gold, because only two folks submitted times in Div. 3 that week...

And last week, I guess that counts as a win for me -- but Filizola did beat my time, he just couldn't prove it because he doesn't have a MaxDrive...

So I'm calling this week my first "real" win. :) First one with real competition and not requiring anyone else to be DQ'ed for me to take 1st place. ;)

Wow, that was super close. I'm very happy to win though, I put a ton of effort in this week...

See, this is what happens when you do too many things at once:yuck:; I only posted my splits. So :dopey:, in my infinite stupidity, I saw the leaderboard and somehow thought I had submitted a time. Doesn't really matter, though. My time was so much poop, I'm sure you all smelled it from where you're at...:yuck:

:dopey: im amazed, thought you had me there casio, but i guess this is revenge for you beating me most weeks, lol. heres the replay, final t2 was 55.172 i hate having to submit replays, it takes me so long to get my maxdrive disk to work, 20mins before the ps2 recognises it at all! then theres the whole bother about knowing which replay to select!! :grumpy: But here it is :) enjoy

WHOA!!! Amazingly close times there guys. Props to all who conquered this course. Sorry I couldn't submit a time. I had one day of practice and then went out of town to work. My times were crappy anyway.

what i wonder is ... where is cyril's own submission? he usually joins us (not me this week ...) in doing his own race but now he's nowhere to be seen ...
so tell us flatty: where have you been?

Hmmm...I feel like a bit of a prick but these were my observations of the PAL replays posted so far:

ROB 256R - 1'39.857

Randymcchickenf - 1'38.553
rflag.gif
Sorry man, but on the slight right kink at the start leading onto the downhill section you clip the wall. Here's a photo of where:

The main indicator though is in the Data Logger where you drop from 124.1 to 123.1 in a single frame and then down to 122.1 in another frame.

Casio - 1'38.562 - Not sure about this one, but I *think* it's dirty too :( Here's a photo of where, it's about 100m before T2:

In the Data Logger you drop from 104.4 to 103.9 in a single frame, but I can't be sure this means it's dirty.

I feel bad but couldn't ignore it...sorry guys

I just spent 2 and a 1/2 hours looking at those very replays, and here's MisterWeary stealing my thunder.

Firstly Casio, there's definitely a mirror passing through the archway before the hairpin...

Here's my photo of the possible touch after the twisty, uphill section...

But the logger evidence for these is pretty non-existent.

Now with Randymcchickenf I found the same speed drop as MisterWeary and got a similar photo. There's definitely a mirror in the wall, and the car itself gets very close around the time when the speed drop happens. Draw your own conclusions.

I also spent some time investigating this section, just after the hairpin:

But, although there is a slight speed drop in this area, I believe it's caused by the car riding the kerbing rather than touching the wall.

On a better note

ROB_256R: Definite 👍
MisterWeary: Definite 👍

I'm going to bed, here's my lap (PAL).

OK, well no worrys guys, i took the risk submitting, i wasnt entirely sure it was clean and put the drop in speed down to a gear change (3rd to 4th coming around the corner.) Looks like i was wrong though, sorry for all the confusion :( on the other hand looks like VTRacing has jumped to second place, congrats 👍

Board updated.
I didn't DQ Casio yet, since neither MisterWeary nor VTRacing seemed 100% sure that the lap is dirty : I'll have a look myself this week-end.

As for my own time, well, I didn't even have a chance to run that race during the week. Too busy at work (we're closing a new version of our software, which means that I have 940 programs to translate from dutch to french, then check with the customers that the evolutions match their requests, then train our trainers, then update the documentation. )
I'll make sure I submit my craptastic time this week.

Edit :

Actually I do worry but didn't wanted to post an answer here, since it's more a general issue unfortunately not limited to this particular week. Please look here, post #22.

I knew of both of these were close. I was 99.9% sure that the first arch was alright, as it was only my mirror passing through, and if I hit it, it would have been a front on impact at about 70mph, which would most likely have caused a pretty chunky spike.

The second one I knew was very close, but I couldn't find it in the analyzer, I definitely didn't feel it while I was racing or in the behind view, and I didn't see a speed drop on a speedo. Maybe it had something to do with the bump on the track before hand?

I really feel bad about this if it's a D.Q, I have never, ever, submitted a dirty time before and with all the arguements about this a couple of weeks back, I hope you will can forgive me.

Flat-out

I read that post, and I agree 100%! The rules are clear: If you have ANY doubt that the lap is dirty, then you MUST consider it dirty. Period!

If I ever submit a dirty lap, I would consider it a very big deal -- I always run through my replays at LEAST three times, from three different angles. And I ALWAYS go back and verify anything that looks close... Check the analyzer, or at least the speedometer, for drops in speed in a close area... I don't remember how many replays I threw out this week that looked potentially dirty (a drop in speed at a point that looked like it *might* be a touch, for example, even though I didn't feel it when I was driving the lap).

Careful checking on your own before you submit saves a lot of work for other people. And the potential embarrassment of a DQ.

EDIT: Oh, and for the record -- I do believe that no one would ever deliberately submit a dirty lap, and deserves our understanding and forgiveness. They simply need to check more carefully in the future, and adhere more strictly to the "if in doubt, throw it out" rule.

Just quickly,

I can't be totally certain with either Randy's nor Casio's lap. I'm 99% sure Casio's lap is clean (if we are allowing mirrors to pass through objects, which GT4 seems to allow).

Randy's is tougher, the speed drop is noticeable and doesn't look like a gearchange, but it is not as sharp a drop as I usually expect with a wall touch. All I can suggest is that it is a very slight brush with the front guard along the wall.

But I really need a third, fourth, or fifth opinion.

I certainly don't want to move up the standings on the basis of DQ's, both Randy and Casio drove good laps.

sup, great week of racing it was, congrats to all the top times, i'll probably post a replay around 5 hours from now, and from casio's pictures i am fairly convinced his time is dirty, i had the same problem in citta di aria with the liscence test at IB9, the time i did was illegal, even though the data logger was fairly inconclusive as i was braking as i hit the wall, so the rate of speed decrease due to braking made it impossible to identify that touch in data logger mode, but it was still deemed dirty due to clear photomode evidence.

Those pictures in mister wearys message is the decider IMO, clearly the car grazed the wall, without question, and if there is any slight speed drop at that instance then its definitely confirmed dirty, and weary stated that it dropped .4 km/h in a single frame, thats pretty much all it takes for a wall touch.

catchya later

Well I've watched two more replays. holl01 sent me his file via MSN last night so although it's not posted here I've watched it:
  • VTRacing - 1'39.263 -
    gflag.gif
  • holl01 - 1'37.300 -
    gflag.gif
It seems odd to me but holl01's lap was the cleanest lap of all the ones I've checked, I didn't have to pause or open the analyzer at any point it was so clean?!? How you make it look that easy is a mystery buddy 👍
