WHAT IS IT?
The WRS Photomode Competition allows WRS'ers the opportunity to show their Photomode skills. You're task is to create a picture that can be used for the Week 87 results thread (much like the example above.) At the end of the week all entries in this thread will be judged by Cyril (Flat-out) or the previous winner (CRXnut) and a new winner will be determined.

WHAT ARE THE RESTRICTIONS
The only restrictions placed on the photo you create are:
  • Photo must be 400 x 300 pixels
  • Photo must relate to the Week 87 race
  • Photo must contain the phrase "WRS Week 87 Results"
  • Photo must be submitted before Tuesday the 26th of December
And that's it! Only one photo per competitor but feel free to update your entry during the week 👍

So what are you waiting for........get out there and start racing and/or snapping some pics :sly:

I figured it was about time I finally make a photo for this. Considering I've been saying that I would ever since we've been doing this. I'll probably make another one, but with work starting tomorrow, my spare time will be 8hrs less on weekdays.

Edit: Updated for size and proportions

Really nice photo 👍 Remember it needs to be 400 x 300 though, I'm happy to resize it if you need

Figured I could give this a try. Much better off when I have Photoshop, like I said back in week 82 ;)

Oh, and would an animated image be okay? Just wondering what my options are now that I have my toys back :P

how the heck can you make animated pictures? like in a gif? if so i'll be beaten easily again here :)

EDIT changed the pic 'cos some didn't like it too much ...

Sorry about that, for some reason I was thinking 400x400. Well this actually makes things quite easier now, because the shot always looked better landscape.

Man you guys have skills that far exceed mine, but I'll probably make a pic and submit it for fun anyway. I notice alot you guys have pics that are really bright and crisp (like all of the pics in the official WRS threads), are you just cranking up the brightness before snapping the shutter?

+3 on the brightness Gt4 photo mode and i put the pic through a brightness and contrast filter on the pc too :)

I usually snap the pic at +6 or +7 brightness in GT then in Photoshop I adjust the Brightness again by like 30

About the animated thingy.
Wouldn't a 400x300 image become huge in filesize when you start to animate it?
Not very friendly for 56k members

I think as a gif it would end up smaller than a jpg, not sure though

If a picture has much colors, the filesize will be smaller when using jpg.
If a picture has big areas with the same color, it's better to use gif.
But most of the time gif images are bigger, since you can compress a jpg as much as you like (but quality will get worse)
An animated gif is a series of gif images in 1 gif file, so the more frames in an animated gif, the larger the file will get.

Nice pic Steven, I have problems with my pics being bigger than the file size allowed by gtp, don't know how anyone will make a moving one fit? anyway I'm practicing with photoshop and hope to step up my game soon.

 wrs photographers.

Dust, I am aware of the size issue. I am very friendly when I do animated gifs... I spend quite a bit of time tweaking compression settings and such to optimize file size while still maintaining acceptable quality.

However, the more I think about it, the color range required for this might be too great to use with gif format while compressing a bunch.

Anyone care to give me kb numbers for what is considering too large a filesize? I was thinking the size I would end up having would be between 250kb and 500kb or so. Thats about 10 frames I would think, depending on how I do blending and stuff.

Arora, go to "save for web" when saving the image. Also, consider hosting your images at Photobucket

Thank you Azuremen, I'll check out the "save for web" as for hosting I do use photobucket, free sub, and can't upload to 400x300. any help there would be greatly appreciated.

Erik

EDIT: the file size is 100? I think max acceptable

Mkay, no animations for me ;)

Was just tossing around the idea. So on to more still shots.

BTW, my Photobucket account allows me to upload 800x600 images, so I am not sure where you are having trouble. You should look into saving the files as jpg, with about 95% quality or so. Thats how I was doing it anyhow.

Well, Bigracer, I went and made a render for this week then after I did the work I went to check the thread. There was your photo. I was standing next to you on the track! :dopey:

That is a very nice shot there Jason and is there any chance of making it brighter? 👍

Nice work man... now I feel like I have to do something more, but I am teh lazy. Should get a shot of it drifting one of the downhill hairpins, with tire smoke (yes, I did do some drifting with the car) But the lazy thing.

One thing though, behind the small pic of the S2000, you might want to fade the blue "border/crop" line running behind it. The opacity is fine, just that little thing is getting to me for some reason.

good thought. A small curve adjustment for the contrast and blue line gone under thumbnail...

I had some fun with that one. Thanks for the suggestions... I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas! 👍

here's a link to the high-res version

It's so tempting to make a vector logo for the WRS now, to go along with my GT logo. But when I have to get up at 6.30 in the morning, and it's quarter to midnight, maybe I'll wait a day.
