i cant beleive that ford is reviving the gt40, i love that car to death and it sounds pretty imnpressive, 500hp at 500 foot pounds of torque. sounds pretty astounding and makes the american auto muscle juss a lil bigger.

Okay, let's start the arguing...

Original Ford GT40:
Designed in... Slough, Berkshire, UK
Built in... Slough, Berkshire, UK
Country of Origin... ????

:D

*hides for everyone else to slug it out*

it wont be called gt40, i think its four-gt? i forget. those are some impressive numbers but i doubt it would handle and perform like the original gt40s.. it would be way too powerful for normal streets.

Yeah - this one will have some decent tyres... :D

I believe "Ford GT" is the name slated. Maybe after the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari they'll try to work some name into it, but after the Edsel, I doubt it... :D

well lets see here, after being on the ford motor company site and going to the 100th centi in their homtown its appaerent that the "Ford gt" (jusst for those who wish to get technical) is handcraftfed for 2005 and possible 2006 due to the change in crash test regulations. after that ford has said that " mass production of the concept car will begin in the u.s. in 2007" ,but none the less construction and availability will be in 2005, sooo famine thats where its from....U.S. of A, SEE not england country of origin for this concept is madde here. second off too powerful or not, i beleive there is another car i think its ohh hmmmm oh yeah the dodge viper and it is a car with about 500hp and 500 torque (or maybe a lil higher) or even the zo6's who have the same or higher or lower figuers. hell these cars are all made for performance so it would make sense to have a fordGT in the mix with these high horsepwer cars.

I think it looks pretty cool. I have a Teckademics video that has some footage from a car show where they show the new Ford GT and they start it up and rev the engine and everything. It sounds soooo awesome and looks pretty cool too. I just don't think I'd be able to fit in one it looks pretty low and my head would probably hit the ceiling.

Blah.

Famine was talking about the ORIGINAL Ford GT40, which WAS built in England...

"i cant beleive that ford is reviving the gt40, i love that car to death and it sounds pretty imnpressive, 500hp at 500 foot pounds of torque. sounds pretty astounding and makes the american auto muscle juss a lil bigger"

i was talking about the new one there buddy

if we mess it up however.... such shame would fall upon the name of the gt40... and i would be disgraced because i live in america...

So far i do not think that there is an american sportscar that cannot be matched by a british or european counterpart...

yeah thats true, i really havnt heard of an american sports car to match up with astan martans or ferrais or anything like that but it would be nice for other american car companies to build cars to that high of performance

I don't quite understand why Ford dosen't give the GT another 100hp or so and go after Lambo, Sallen, Porsche, or even Ferrari. This is certainly the car to do it with.

yeah i havnt understood that either, its been speculated it could match the viper and run circles around corvettes so i guess they made it the way it is so that it can match its compition american firms (dodge/gm)

SVTCobra - now can you see anything at all in my post which might hint, even microscopically, that I was talking about the Original Ford GT40? At all?

I was aware of what you were talking about - although the car is called the Ford GT - I just thought I'd make some fun out of an "American vs British" argument while I was at it.

famine what on earth gave u the thought that i was talking about the old gt? i was referring to the new 2005 ford concept of the vehicle. damn why make an argument over somthing everyone knows. ofcoarse the car was made in england and the idea from the states some 30-40 years ago. but this is 2003 and the new one is made here in the good old usa. but i see now that u wanted to make an argument over it so what the hell ;)

if it cant run circles around a viper its a lousy super car...
if it cant run circles around a vette its not a super car...

btw... when i entered this thread i too thought you would be talking about the gt40 i think its the subject...

famine also has a valid point becuase even tho the new concept was revived in detroit... where was this car originally designed... and what does that mean....

doesnt it mean that the new concept owes its heritage and thus its true identity to britain... and if we mess it up... it just will prove that americans miss the point...

BTW hp isnt everything for those who feel it should have 100 more hp.... and plus hp gets expensive... it might be more prudent to put the money into a better chassis one that is light and stiff and with good physical characteristics than into pure engine performance... 500 or so hp on a light ass car could be devastating to most supercar...

i did say could however...

hey dude whoever u are. 500horsepower here with 500 foot pounds of torque...remember that k boy? now the viper has the same thing 500/500 and i qoute "its been speculated that it could match a viper" and pal sorry to break the news to ya but the vettes only have 406 horsepower and around the same number in foot pounds of torque soo ummm whats ur name..bengee ok i ha to look for that one i think u can do the math on that one ;) oh and by the way even if it could or couldnt beat either car its still considered a super car. **** id love to see and hear about u beating a '05 ford gt and tell me how it aint a super car. by the way even if the car shares the mytique of the gt40 they share not a single dimension, the concept is a foot and a half longer and stands 4inches taller and all parts and i mean ALL PARTS are manufactured in the USA wow how many times have i included USA in this damn thread. it seems i still cant get through to some of u that its american made and here to stay and will be the rival to alot of americas "SUPER CARS"

Two points:
- the reason they're not using the old GT40 is that someone else has copyrighted it (forget who - think it might be a replica builder). They wanted an exorbidant amount of money for it.
- as much a fan of the original as I am, I find it a rather sad comment on Ford's design staff that rather than come up with a completely new supercar, complete with new styling, they basically give the old GT40 a bit of a makeover with modern componentry.

ok dude... reffering to svt

i personally like the vette the most out of the said above cars that make up american super cars... and there is no question that the vette makes the best daily driver sport car that america has to offer...

anyways to address what you said... i am saying that if ford cannot produce a brilliant car as it revives the gt40 with the gt, it will have failed... not only will the gt be filled with the newest technology and prolly be the most expensive... if it follows its original intent... it will not be meant to only compete against american made super cars... but also those from around the world...

i guess what i am trying to say is that the vette and the viper are both super cars designed for the road...

the gt should be, in my opinion, a race car made street legal and given a few amenities... that is why it should run circles around the other... it was the idea behind its predecessor and if its not the idea behind the gt i think alot of us will be in for a disapointment...

you dont have to get mad... i know the gt is us made... but oh forget it...

reading your post over again it seems that you think becuase each car has a similar amount of hp that they will be in direct competition... while hp and torque are very important... max hp and max torque are not really as important as the area of revs that delivers power and torque close to this max value... the larger this area of revs the better and faster the engine will be... also weight and the fundamental characteristics of hte car have to be considered... it will be mr and with the proper engineering it should run all over the viper for sure and hopefully the vette as well... seeing as it will probably cost a lot more and be in much more limited production... i think its not unreasonable to ask of ford to create a true follower of the gt40... and in order to do this its got to be great... its got to be brilliant... its got to be the best and unbeatable on the streets and on the track for years
