Hi,

I'm a complete noob when it comes to GT5 and the PS3, so please excuse what may be a really stupid question. I did try the search function, but it didn't locate anything under the search term "G27".

I've come from the Xbox 360 and the official (not so) wireless steering wheel and games like Forza and I am struggling with GT5 and the G27. I find that I am going in a straight line and the steering wheel is constantly pulling to one side (this isn't happening to me in F1 2012 on the PS3) and even the slightest corner is requiring nearly full lock on the steering wheel to get around it successfully. I've tested the steering wheel on the PC (Dirt 3, F1 2011) and it doesn't happen on either of these games.

Is there a setting or settings I am missing in GT5? or is it just that I am a complete noob?

Thanks in advance.

Ross

Thanks for the reply.

It's happening on all tracks / cities I have tried unfortunately (about 5 or 6) with all low powered cars (tried to start off learning the wheel with the lowest powered cars).

Is it your feedback settings in the main options menu? That might need adjusting. But I'm new to wheels, so I could be way off.

You must hold the wheel when going in a straight line. If you let go, it will wobble. It shouldn't require much force to hold though.

If turning requires going full lock, then you are going too fast. That is a driver error not a hardware error. The other games you mentioned have.more arcadey physics and don't require the same finesse as G;T5.

The only settings for the G27 in GT5 are the Force Feedback Settings and the Power Assist settings. The simulation, amatuer, and professional settings are not available for the G27. Those are the only settings. As for your problem, I have never heard of that happening before. Maybe try unplugging the usb and the power cord and plug them in again to see if that helps.

I read on the forums that is a good idea to ensure the PS3 is OFF first.

Then, follow the steps below:

1st connect the USB
2nd connect the power source
3rd turn the PS3 ON

This apparently helps with the calibration of the wheel.

Mine stays plugged in and I never have a problem with calibration.

NEVER!!!!

Don't plug the USB in before the power! It can fry your USB ports on your PS3!

I always keep the power plugged in then when I boot up GT5 I plug in the USB.

As to the OP, you need to get used to it, its completely different than your old wheel, you need to be precise. You shouldn't ever have to go to full lock unless you're drifting!

Cheers lads. Going to give it another try in a bit. I've heard such good things about GT5, so I am hoping to get this sorted (sounds like it is user error more than anything).

Thanks again for all the help, it is greatly appreciated.

The main problem is that you are used to drive with a reduced wheel angle, I guess you don't drive real cars.

With GT5 and G27 you drive with a realistic linear 900º input lock to lock (maximum) as oposite of the wireless wheel, non linear input and around 180º lock to lock.

You need some time to adapt, try to drive a kart in GT5 and you will find a difference because the wheel angle changes from car to car like the real thing.

See the differences:

Because F1 steering wheel angles are reduced in game and real life.

I have not played Dirt with a wheel but I guess that there is also reduced because rally cars have also reduced wheel angles, and it's not a sim so they don't need to make realistic just fun and easy to play.

Just wait and see until he drive the kart in GT5 and gives his feedback.

Dirt 3 has 900 degrees rotation if you use a 900 degree wheel. He also said "I find that I am going in a straight line and the steering wheel is constantly pulling to one side" and "and even the slightest corner is requiring nearly full lock on the steering wheel to get around it successfully."

That is obviously not normal.

Cheers lads.

I do have a licence (which is surprising in itself), but I will be going on GT5 in a few minutes, so I will give it a try.

Cheers for the help lads.

Plugged the steering wheel into the PC and updated Logitech Game Profiler and played a few games on dirt and then came back to the PS3 and reduced FFB on GT5. It's still kicking slightly in a straight line, but no where near as bad as it was and I managed to finish a race and not be last for a change :D
