I have to credit the idea to vigi147 in the 'Future of PD' thread, but it got me thinking. What if there was an aspect of GT5 online that worked like other MMORPGs? It could essentially be like the career mode that we know from offline versions of GT games, but just match you with other players completing the same challenges.
For example take the Clubman cup. There could be an Maximum Exp. allowed, HP limits, etc. If you win, you could unlock cars and win money, just like on the offline career.
After working your way up, there would be more challenging races, with minimum Exp, etc. Pretty much just adapt the Beginner/Professional/Extreme hall ideas from GT4.
They could also make it so that you could only purchase certain upgrades after earning a certain amount of EXP.
I guess earning EXP could be like Aspec points or something. On the other hand specific races could have concrete EXP values.
Personally I think it would be cool to have a full Livery Editor for things like this, just imagine, 'CRUD, there is that same yellow enzo with the black stripe that owned me on El Capitan!'
I realize some people might not like that idea, but it gets back to the driving simulator vs racing simulator argument. It sort of starts to sound like NFS maybe too, but I think that would be fine as long as GT stuck to the realism as far as physics and stuff.
What do you guys think?
EDIT:
almost forgot... since it would all be online, PD could always be adding new challenges and tournaments and things. Also, the main problem with this idea would be that there might not be enough players doing the same challenges to fill out a whole grid. I thought of two solutions, the remainder of slots could be filled with AI, or maybe, multiple events taking place on the same track could happen simultaneously, sort of like in real life. It would mean the structure would have to be a little bit different than the career in older GT games, but there could be different classes competing in the same event. So, for example, you came in 5th place in your JGTC Supra, but 1-4 were LMP cars, so you won your class, or something like that.
