Hi all, this is GTSGR*seizure_ from team GTSGR* (a Singapore-based GT team).
Just thought the following mini-report would be something worth sharing with other GT enthusiasts outside the Asia territory since this was not covered in Jordon / GTPlanet (yet).
Back in December 2010, Sony Computer Entertainment Asia kicked off the Gran Turismo 5 Asia Tournament in search for GT5 drivers across various countries within Asia.
The search started with qualifiers to select a certain number of top players from each of the following countries (from what I read from the respective country's Playstation website, the number of top players selected vary):
Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines
The top few players compete further in the country's Regional Final. The winner would then be able to representative his own country and take part in the Asia Tournament Finals which was scheduled to be held on 19th February 2011.
Since I'm "reporting" from Singapore, just want to share with you guys that Singapore had a total 3 official events, 1 in December while 2 others were held in January.
Rules for the qualifiers were straight forward:
* Track: Rome Circuit
* Car: Mercedes-Benz models
* Game Mode: Time attack using Arcade Mode
* Participants are required to complete a lap of the track within time limit
* The 8 fastest participants will be entitled to enter the regional final
Just a side note that we did face some inconsistency with regards to the tire choices during the qualifiers arranged by the event organizers but in summary, racing soft tyres were allowed and that was what most participants chose to compete.
The 3 qualifying events were over fast and before we know it, here it came - the Singapore Regional Finals which was held on 21st January 2011. The Top 8 drivers then competed in a face-off 1 v 1 challenge and here's a video and some pictures for the final face off between the last 2 competitors fighting for the Singapore's representative slot. The winner was our team's very own GTSGR*patrickngkeehow, who won the opportunity to represent Singapore at the Gran Turismo 5 Asia Tournament Finals @ Taipei Game Show 2011 held on 19th Feb 2011.
Here are the representatives from each of the 8 countries (all following pictures credits to

Hope you enjoy the pictures above and pardon the brief story as I'm typing this in the middle of the night with work just 5 hours of sleep away. Hope you enjoy the above. Again, credits to Playstation SG and mobile01.com for the pictures. Hopefully when our driver is back from Taipei I will be able to share more pictures / stories on the event itself.
Till then..!
