I had a dream about GTPlanet the other night.

I can't find that old thread about dreams with GT in them so i think the best place to post it is here.

I had a dream that there had been a competition for a GTP member to win a job at PD. But the news item i was reading was about how he had quit because of something dodgy going on and there was huge dramas about it! It was one of the Moderators who got the job.

Anyway..... clearly i spend far too much time on this site and the lack of news is getting to me

I don't even know why that conversation has even been started again when its official that there are No bikes in GT5.

What wouldn't fit together in one game would be cars and fridges, cars and cats or cars and coffeetables.
Cars and motorcycles both are machines aimed only ( at least within the context of a videogame ) at providing driving/riding pleasure which despite being completely different in how they arrive doing that share a lot of similarities and history too, and a largely overlapping demographic who are enthused by both.

I'm from the beautiful U.S.A, and personally love NASCAR, F1, LeMans, WRC and plenty other racing leagues. I know that NASCAR can seem like a dull endurance at times, but all sports have those times. Not to offend anybody that likes soccer, but you can't tell me that watching 22 guys kick the ball at midfield for 15 minutes is an anymore exciting time than watching cars race in a circle. But we have to stick to the point of GT5, and that is to appeal to millions of people, no matter what race league they enjoy. I for one do not enjoy the D1 Grand Prix, I find IT to be boring and pointless, but there are many people who find it interesting, so I can't say that it doesn't deserve it's own place in GT5. Because of that fact, people need to stop being so defensinve about certain cars and tracks and race leagues being in GT5. They're in there for a reason, and that is that many people DO like that car, or track or league.

Just like the Prius appearing as a Premium car, I know that many people will think that the Premium cars could be put to better use, but those people aren't going to not buy GT5 because the Prius is a Premium car. But, say your average joe who doesn't know much about cars, may in fact buy GT5 just to compare the Prius to a Fiesta. The game is meant to appeal to all age groups, and all intrest levels. If you're a hardcore fan who doesn't like the feature to save endurance races, then just don't use it, but a ten year old kid who loves cars, but wouldn't be able to race a full 24 hour race at one time, would love this feature. My final point is that, think of everything before you jump to a conclusion, because, in the end, Polyphony Digital is just another business, that wants to make as much money as possible, and the easiest way to do that is to appeal to as large of an audience as possible, to sell the most games, to, in the end again, make the most money.

Not to mention a number of people talking about motorcycle engined karts. The attitude I find disappointing is, finding it okay to take from motorcycles without attributing anything to the original. Westfields use motorcycle engines as do many other companies (Radical).

Don't forget the bike-engined Caterham Seven Fire Blade and Suzuki GSX-R/4 concept which were both included in GT4...and therefore GT5.
See? Motorcycle-parts already infiltrated GT, don't mention it out loud though.

My view on this is if you truly want the best biking experience, then placing it a game that's centered around cars, will take away from that. TT2 would be better, PD could focus all it's effort in giving the proper physics & features aimed at bikes, better then throwing into GT like a side order of fries. :)

I agree with that. Take out NASCAR. Oh and Karts. and... oh yea any Formula 1 car, and... well you get the point. :)

i don't know if this has been mentioned, but PD themselves have differentiated the two, simply by the phrase after the respective titles:

Gran Turismo - The Real DRIVING Simulator

Tourist Trophy - The Real RIDING Simulator

so IMO, as much as I would like bikes as well (being an avid rider myself), this isn't the game for it.

I would love bikes in GT5. I would like to see GT5 as like a vehicle OS. Bikes should be added to GT5 via future DLC imo.

Bike share track space with cars at the ring almost on a daily basis.

This is a great vid of a ZX10r one of my fav bikes following a CLK DTM.

Not from my mouth, but Kaz's:

"The environment we have right now allows us to drive motorcycles, but we need to get Gran Turismo 5 done first," Polyphony boss Kazunori Yamauchi told the latest issue of PSM3.

This is from an article published today and has already been mentioned in this thread.

disagree its:

Gran Turismo - The Real WAITING Simulator

Yea, that is true, and considering that you are GT5. I will take your word as fact.:)

But really, I don't know if anyone is trying to debate PD's thoughts. I think it is more of a debate about personal preference and what you want.

Restating: Later on, in GT HD, it was apparent that a merging of both automobiles and motorcycles was acceptable with Regards to PD's vision.

Its a game so anything is possible and that is what is so great about games. (within reason of course), so PD can back track if they want.

I just noticed amazon has the release date posted for 12/31 and gamestop has it for 1/1. Is this just an arbitrary date set by the sellers?

btw-amazon has the CE listed as not sold out

Regarding bikes, I know Kaz said in an older GT5 interview, that in the earlier iterations of the GT games they didn't use them, because the ps2 simply couldn't run it and that they were thinking about the idea of letting driving bikes AND cars at the same time on the track for future games. I do not have the quote right now though, maybe TouringDevotee can deliver it?:sly:

I think you can blame me for that..

Not that long ago I had posted about how I felt that bikes might be in GT5 while at the same time completely doubting it! :dopey:

It was removed shortly after the delay was confirmed. Most assumed that they just ran out of stock but I guess only they know the answer now.

Maybe they were promised more stock since the delay?

That's what I thought. I guess either they got more stock or they were wondering what to do while Sony was finding a spot to mass produce it.

Here's another interesting find:
http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=84344

Notice the face plate now releases on December 6th. Interesting 'cause it was scheduled to come out when GT5 did, but GS lists GT5 as coming out on 1/1/2011.

Thank you for giving us something to talk about right now. 👍

Well, if the former is correct, then we should see Gamestop and others start selling it again. So, I guess we will kind of know at some point.

According to the "Winds" Isn't it due for release 30 days before a year passes. That would make it 1/12/10 (or 12/1/10 for Americans)

Edit: or would it be December 2nd? (January 1st minus 30 days)

Well after reading all that has said on a topic that is really hopeless given the completion and gathering a few thoughts, here's my take on this (with reason):

I don't have a problem with Bikes and in fact have a growing love for them thanks to the likes of Moto GP and SBK. What I have a problem with is putting Bikes in a game that focuses on cars. In a game full of cars and really aimed at car enthusiasts, why put Bikes in this game? Sure, we've seen a couple of cars with Motorcycle engines but then again, you can put an engine in anything. Now obviously GTHD has shown that its not impossible so its not so much as to whether it could be done or not, but whether should it be done or not. I say it shouldn't not because like the ignorant thinkers "it has no place", but because I feel that just like cars, Bikes really are special enough that they deserve their own game. While I'm still learning about them, the little bit I know about already leaves me in awe and amazement and that little bit of appreciation I have for them makes me even further question just throwing them along side cars. They should have a place, a encyclopedia where the bike enthusiasts can marvel at them just as us Car enthusiasts do with GT. Look at the heads they make turn, the crowds they draw in, the awesome sounds they make and the die-hards that love them. I'd say petition PD to make a TT2. the interest is clearly here so why not make that heard?

Neither as neither are on a Tuesday...

I don't know why you would still rely on first Amar's wind. The game has been delayed twice since he wrote it (actually 1 time for Japan and 1 time for all regions).

30 night before 12 months pass = March 2010 (Amar wrote the message in April 2009 so it makes perfect sense)
or
= end of November-beginning of December.

If the game releases in that period it will be just a coincidence.
