Well if the move into 3D pays off for Sony, then I know that I'm not Chief Executive material, because there's no way I'd be pushing Sony as heavily into 3D as Sir Howard is doing.

3D is a market Sony have to look at, sure, especially for the movie business; but 3D home TV's, games, cameras, laptops...blah. Just don't see it.

I honestly hope that Sony isn't waiting for the whole 3D thing to release this game. Because I can guarantee you that about 90% of GT5 purchasers won't care about it anyways. (including me)

If it (3D) works effectively in conjunction with the supposed head-tracking feature, I'll be all over a brand new TV set just for GT5.

My 47" HDTV is 2 years old now anyways and has been $1300CDN well spent.

If 3D GT is underwhelming and poorly implemented, like I expect it to be, I'll be pretty disappointed to find out that the game was further delayed specifically for 3D support at launch.

In that case, my current TV is still excellent. :)

I for one would love 3d + head tracking in gt5 and wouldn't mind buying a new tv to get it if it looked as good as the Imax Avatar I saw. This is coming from someone who hasn't bought a tv since 2002 because my 36" sony wega trinitron worked just fine (still does, for that matter, with it HD compatible). I know people have touted Avatar as a breakthrough in 3D and all, but I agree with the folk that say 3D movies have not the entertainment and immersion value of 3D games. That said, I wish they'd just release GT5 already, too. I actually hope it's not awesome in 3D as I don't want to have to buy a new tv for a while, ha!

For Cars they gotta put the Porsche's in the game ,,it would not be a real racing game with out them

But what ever you do Make sure they handle as well In GT5 as they did in other games

I have played FM2 and FM3 and they made the Porches handle Like SH**

It seems when ever a game has Ferrari's in it the Porsche's some how seem to handle worse then Then the real car dose ,,,,and everyone knows Porsche is faster and handles better then any Ferrari

I have played every GT game and love the games ,,,,The only reason I bought a 360 was Because my home got broken into and My PS3 and all my games got stolen ,,,,
The EB dealer talked me into Getting a 360 instead Of a PS3 he said there were more games and the 360 was better and , FM was just as good as GT

Its a decision I regret ,, ,,,,FM 2 was not bad ,,,But was not nearly as good as any of the GT games ,,,Mind you the online play for FM 2 was great I liked it ......But FM 3 was a slap in the face ,,,FM3 totaly Sucks And the online Play totaly Blows

The 120CND I paid for the LCE was a total waste of money

The worst of FM is the way the Porsche's handle ,,,esp the 959 ,,,,,( I own a Porsche and use to own a Ferrari)

So if GT5 is gonna have Porsche's Dont let Ferrari Force you to make the Porches handle like Crap

3D is a fad, and it's still incredibly expensive to make. And the price of 3D movie tickets just went up, so, I would expect the same to be true for 3D games. Personally, I think GT5 will be just as cool in 2D...like most things.

However, one thing that WOULD be cool is the ability to race real world tracks backwards. There is only one game that I know of that has done that, and it was pretty cool.

Well GT has had RUFs before, modified Porsches pretty much
and yes they handle like "crap" :)

rear engine chassis does that :sly:

Hmm I think a spotted at least 1 new track here - this is quite an old video, and it shows the Ring and la Sarthe in GT5, way before they were known, and the rest of the tracks in Prologue, but also what looks to be a new track at 0:35!
Either a costal road or a mountain pass road, maybe a section of the same road in the FT-86 vid?
Cliff side, rocks and boulders! Road appears to be quite narrow, maybe a point to point style course?

PD known how to make trailers - the music, visuals and feel combine into something nice 👍

Man I want to download a 720p version for my collection :(

I don't understand why people get talked into things like this by gameshop employees, it just annoys me when they attempt to talk me into something I didn't ask for.

Im sorry to hear some of your GameStop stories..Im a 'local' at mine, I just get the "hey whats up", then nothing else, they know ill come to them if I need them lol

I don't think 3D has got anything to do with the release date of GT5. Sony even had to officially deny that GT5 was under development for 3D. And according to this article (which doesn't cite any sources, so be aware that it might not be as reliable as one may hope) the delay is due to improving the AI, to make the AI cars behave more human. The article also suggests that GT5 will be released in October, which in turn would fit in nicely with a release date being revealed at E3 in June.

/ Erik

Maybe it's the actual game we're all waiting for, being so overdeveloped it has actually started to develop its own conciousness recently and seeking contact with its future owners. :scared:

Could be. After all, if Kaz is developing the AI to be more human, and as we know his level of perfectionism... maybe the software has truly come alive! *The sky is blackened by a vicious storm. A flash cracks and from a distance you hear the insane laughter of a game developer going for world domination*

GT5 is not under development for 3D. GT5 has already been developed for 3D. GT5 was demonstrated in 3D at CES last year. It is not a technical reason for the current lack of a release date.

If not technical, are there one or more business (market timing) reasons then? Could it be that the announcement just has to be done at E3?

Hey, this is just yet (another) rumour, but I think it's an interesting one as it even makes sense with what they said as reason for delay...
A Japanese friend told me that it's possibly true ( he was the first that told me ) and I read it on the internet from guys who heard it on Japanese Autoshow...
so, yeah here it is, it simply says PD are running out of money and are currently looking for new sponsors. Before you call BS, think about it a little, it wouldn't be the first big project to fail because of that very reason and they said 'production issues'... I mean what should that mean, sounds actually a bit like 'we need more money'??! :)

Well, just throwing it in as it's something new, instead of repeating all the same 3D, skidmarks, physics, Porsche, etc. disussion points all the time. 👍

"real" Ferrari's are single seat, open cockpit, and just about the fastest things on four wheels for their time. By that I mean the formula 1 cars. The road car program was there purely to fund the race car program. In that sense the purest ferrari is the racing one.

Of course, in my eyes, any ferrari is a real ferrari, no matter where the engine is or how many seats it has.

That said...

...mmm

Note the signature on this photo... 👍

It's from the man who built de bodywork of this car, and many other Ferraris like de 250 TR from '57... Sergio Scaglietti!

I'd certainly imagine that it'd be a marketing reason. After all, there's no point releasing a huge 3D title before all your 3D TVs are in the marketplace, particularly when that huge 3D title could shift 3DBD players (PS3s) and 3DTVs by itself.

What?!

PD are in-house Sony. PD's CEO is vice-chairman of Sony. PD are no more running out of money that the Royal Mint.

And for the nth time, GT5 for the worldwide market has never had a release date and has never been delayed. Only the Japanese market had a release date which has now been rescinded.

GT5 is not under development for 3D. GT5 has already been developed for 3D. GT5 was demonstrated in 3D at CES last year. It is not a technical reason for the current lack of a release date.

According to Sony there are no games currently being developed for the 3D technology. What they showed at CES was examples of what types of games that could go 3D in the future.

They even had to deny that the games they showed was actually gonna come in 3D, because people thought that it was not an example, but a preview.

And the quotes I've seen from Kaz says only that he finds the new technologies (3D and MOVE) interesting, and that, if they are interesting enough, they will think of applying it to their games.

And to go back to the AI discussion for a bit it seems to be one of the most plausible explanations of the delay I have heard so far. It makes perfect sense because as we have seen, they have the graphics, the physics engine, the damage (although we might hope for a slight improvement there?), the night racing (we still miss dynamic weather, don't we?)... Well, we haven't seen a thousand cars and the 70 variations of tracks, but these guys knows modelling so it's hardly the quantities that has caused the delay... The only thing that remains, and that has a huge impact on gameplay, is the AI.

And if it is true, that this delay has been caused by improvements to the AI, then I think it's well worth the wait. I mean, GT5P is a great game I think (apart from the number of cars and tracks), but at the long run I get a bit annoyed with the fact that I'm the only one who is likely to do any mistakes on the track. Some more action and human error in the AI machines is gonna make the gameplay even more exciting for me anyway. (My dream scenario would be night racing in rain on Nurburgring versus 15 "adrenaline intelligence" drivers... could be a real thriller!)

@Famine
Yeah, I know that, it's sounds almost impossible, but then why they don't tell us what was the real problem with the (japanese) delay and what does 'soon' actually mean?
With PD's information politics, it's no wonder such rumours come up and it sounds so crazy, we maybe never find out, but I think there might be some truth in this afterall.

PS: I just thought it's interesting, because my Japanese friend doesn't come up with stuff like this often. :)

Well, to be fair, you are out to buy a games console with a racing game. If you had PS3 in mind to play GT5 that's not out yet, it's perfectly reasonable to be offered the alternative of an Xbox 360 with a racing game that you can play, and a perfectly good one at that. To come out and say Forza 3 totally sucks...well, all I can say is, I wouldn't be blaming the EB employee for forcing the issue. After all, they are there to sell, and in many ways, the Xbox 360 is a better overall gaming machine. I know loads of people who own both, and they all use the Xbox 360 for their main gaming machine, and just get the PS3 exclusives.

This guy owns a Porsche and has owned a Ferrari (so he says). It's fair to say then, that he has a bit of cash to his name, so it's no big deal to keep or sell the Xbox 360 and buy a new PS3 if he hasn't already done so.

As for the current 3D topic being discussed, I personally think it's a fad, and most people I speak to think it's a fad. Certainly in the UK, HD has only really become mainstream in the past 3 years, so very few people are going to want to splash out even more money on a new HDTV just so they can watch a small amount of 3D content.

Read what Famine said, and then see if you think it's the truth.

For arguments sake let's say it is the truth - all they needed to do was package up what they had of the game so far, and do any updates via patches and DLC as the money rolled in. After all, the game could have been released at any time according to Kaz, right?

I seriously doubt that lack of money has anything to do with it. The "delay" (for Japan at least) is a marketing move to benefit SONY and give PD more development time. Maybe it's related to 3D technology, maybe not, but this screams of marketing to me.

GT5 is not under development for 3D.

There is no contradiction.

What they showed at CES was examples of what types of games that could go 3D in the future.

And there is only one way to demonstrate a game in 3D. The game's demo has to be in 3D...

Famine
GT5 has already been developed for 3D.

It doesn't take long to recode a game for 3D. And we're not talking in the order of weeks or months, but hours.

Maybe.Again all that MONEY.

No thrust to Kaz about release. He said himself: "My job is to make games, not sell them".

@ Famine: Have you read the Sony statement?

"That last feature included interviews, footage from CES 2010, and a brief montage of SCEA titles intended as examples of what 3D gaming might encompass. It is hard to do justice to just how amazing 3D gaming looks in a 2D presentation—even in an HD product such as Qore. However, as we wanted to give our viewers an idea of the possibilities that 3D gaming has to offer, we decided to use stock footage of several first-party games that were on display at the show, including Killzone 2 (a 3D version of the television commercial was shown at CES).

Unfortunately, our feature did not make it clear that the 2D game footage was included for demonstration purposes only. We apologize for the erroneous inference that 3D versions of LBP, Wipeout HD, Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5 or Super Stardust HD are in production."
