Came home to my copy in the mailbox. Popped it in and waited for it to install. The second that the hotlap starts my fiance comes in the house, looks at me playing the game, and immediately says "You're not going to play that all day are you?"

Guess I'll play it tomorrow...

Hehehe that i can see...my wife is the same

First race felt like crap (very first one, where you do one lap). After that it's been great! Great graphics, feedback is tons better than S1, AI is competitive, physics are pretty good. The only problem I dunno how to unlock my limited edition for PC. No code is included in the box...tried serial number, didnt work, said it's been used. Wth

As of now, I think it is terrible. It is very akward feeling driving with DFGT, even after I changed the settings, but maybe I just have to get used to it. I think the computer is playing bumper cars with me but that is just my opinion. According to everyone else, it gets better as you get through the start so I will trust you all and hope it does get better because I am pretty frustrated at the moment. I loved shift 1 so maybe it is just weird going from GT5 back to this.

Started with a GOLF!!!

At first I hated how the Wheel seemed to break completely free when going in to a turn, then I realized it was because I was losing traction and that was tires sliding, now that I know the sensation the game feels great!!!

I don't think it looks as good overall as Shift 1, but it has a whole lot more going on. Helmet cam took some adjusting too, as I had to disassociate what I was seeing from the orientation of the car. At first I kept going off the track, but once I understood what I was seeing I actually like it better.

While it doesn't feel quite as good as GT5 the game is immensely more engaging, atmospheric, and above FUN!!

I'm going to have a blast putting 100+ hours into this game!!!

Ok, played a bit more. Level 9, I guess this double xp boosts your levels up waaay too quick. I would have liked the pace of leveling slowed down a bit. After each win I get like 1-2 new events unlocked and cash...I didnt like leveling of GT5, but here so far it's too quick. Maybe because of double xp. Now, the game is fantastic! Beats GT5 any day, handling is pretty good, although seems like there is a bit of understeer but I've not messed with any settings or tuning, only improved brakes and tire on my BMW i135. AI is great, tries to avoid you at all possible costs, even trying to go off track sometimes not to hit you. Im playing on medium AI and here's how it works, if the AI is in the lead after the first corner (2-3 opponents), then you're going to have a great race, and really have to work for that win. If you are in P1 after the first corner, then unless you make a big mistake, you'll win it. At least that's on medium, I'll switch to hard later on. But it's good, way better than GT5, not sure about Shift 1, since I was using an overhaul mod, so probably AI was better with that.

Tracks and cars look gorgeous on my PC. It's great. I was skeptical about graphics before playing the game, but now I have an it's WOW! TONS better than Shift 1 graphically! Night racing is superb. Real treat.

Now, my (so far) only negative is the performance. I have i5-760 3.6 ghz, 4gb of ram, ATI HD5870 1GB. I'm playing at full hd (1080p), everything completely maxed out except for blur and AA, have vsync on. I'm playing using the hood cam (or windshield cam), and when im using that I can notice that my fps is capped at 30fps mostly. I was expecting 60. It does get to 60 sometimes, but mostly capped at 30. The thing is, any other cam I use it stays in the 60s!! Especially with helmet cam I'm getting constant 60 fps. I think that's due to the hood's reflections as those look great, but probably eat a lot of GPU cycles. We'll see if it ever gets improved with a patch.

yeah you're right!

Anyway, off to go purchase my copy! I'll be playing shift until the next major GT5 patch (or new DLC).

weee!:dunce:

Haha, good call taking it down. I see the point you were trying to make though :)

The game doesn't come out til tomorrow where I live, but looking forward to picking it up. Reviews seem mixed thus far, but it sounds like the physics are improved somewhat so that's good enough for me.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I've had tons of issues with FFB in Shift 1, here it's been much improved. Maybe it's not perfect, but it does not bother me one bit. I can accept some trade-offs when the complete package is this good.

I'm guessing performance will improve when patches start coming along. Works like this with most games for the PC nowadays. 👍

It cant be as bad as the GT5 Elise in the Top Gear challenge surly?

It's horrific, I think it may just be the way that the Elise's actual numbers and handling translates into game engines, which is unfortunate really as it truly is one of the most fun cars i've ever driven.

So far, i'm enjoying the game more than what GT5 has already offered me. I'll come back to GT when PD gets well and starts updating again.

after about 2 hours of trying to figure out the wheel setting and just getting completely bored, I would have to say my 1st impression of Shift 2 is to take it out of my PS3 and put GT5 back in.... Oh and trade it the first chance I get.... Save your money.... BIG FAIL

YOU couldnt figure out the wheel settings so the games a fail? Good logic bud...

Have you tried any of the numerous threads here with suggestions for wheel settings? So far people who have tried those seem to have been pretty happy.

ya man, I actually got the full wheel and game settings from InsideSimRacing, I still don't like it. Hard to beat GT5 for handling if ya ask me... Its feels like your trying to steer a barrel... Not for me I think...

Well, I played with Shift 2 ALL day today. No, the physics are not that of GT5, but I dont think those physics are all that accurate either.

Watch your car if it catches air in GT5. Looks like its floating.

Ive got a high HP Mk1 GTi, and after driving the one in Shift 2, I'd say it was scarily accurate. Unforuntalely, I can't afford any more cars to test it against. But overall, theres attributes in Shift 2 that are more accurate then GT5 and vice versa.

High speed weight shifting is more easily felt through the steering in Shift, along with the torque curves of turbo charged cars and boost lag. Stiffen up the suspension and setup your car properly... it'll feel more like GT5 then what you'd expect.

Man, I'm digging this game. Even if the car physics seem to have been completely made up, it's just plain old fashioned fun. And the autolog makes me actually want to go do old races to improve my times. If only this game had GT5 car physics, it would be unbeatable.

It seems that people are complaining on excessive understeer on shift 2 with a wheel, any recommendation on one for PC? I'd like to keep playing GT5 on ps3 and gonna start shift 2 on PC.
Thanks
