Ive noticed that getting a slipstream(especially in the f2007) increases your acceleration wayyyyyy too much. I reckon the aerodynamics physics are a bit wrong in Prologue.

ie. Whenever the f2007 in the the slipstream it will hit its top speed(rev limiter) pretty much straight away. This is NOT right, it doesn't happen in real life!!
The gain in speed is not THAT much, in real life f1 even if your right behind the guy in front for the whole straight you might make a few car lengths, not 200m on Fuji's straight.(watch f1 videos of overtaking)

And the same goes for the rest of the cars. The aerodynamics physics in Gt5 prologue are pretty bad-The f2007 hits 335kmh by itself on Fuji's straight with full downforce where in 2007 they were doing about 320. All i wish is that its fixed by the time gt5 comes out.

Also a final comment on how the f2007's gearing is wrong. it pulls 7th gear at 310kmh where it should be pulling it at about 270-290

What do you guys think about this???

I think PD did it like this so it whould be closer racing.

Hopefully they fix it for gt5 👍

I like it like this, and I too believe that's how PD made it for closer racing. It might not be totally realistic, but it's a real, predictable and tangible way of creating closer racing.

true, Very good points. But i want the real thing!!! sorry, but i want it how the f1 drivers get to have it. f1 is my favourite sport since i was 7 and its something that's important to me, i might not get to drive a real f1 car but i want the closest thing i can get.

It sure get closer and its nice to have sometimes. but i hope its adjustable for online,

The slipstream in the game is exaggerated quite a bit. Does it create better racing? Probably I'd say but I do wish they would tone it down just a tad or give us a way to control it through a setting. When thinking about it, I wonder if the unrealistic slipstream in GT5P is a cause for some of the accidents that occur? Giving the drafting car too much speed & momentum.

I don't mind it because it makes online racing so much closer, a lot like Formula Ford or Aussie Racing Cars in a way. There's passing every lap. Even though it's unrealistic and exaggerated, I don't mind it because it creates closer online racing therefore it is fun.👍

it makes for great close racing i agree but, it actually ruins the race when someone 2 seconds off pace keeps passing you on the straights only to hold you up in the turns.

Yeah I agree. A few days ago when racing I was trying to work my way through the pack only to get caught up with a slower driver. I was faster but anytime we hit the straights they would just re-pass & then hold me up again for 3/4 of a lap. This went on for 3 laps or so and by then the drivers in front had a huge gap. Nothing wrong with what that driver was doing, it was just the game's sometimes frustrating super draft coming into play.

If you mean the V8 supercars, I think its more because they are all crazy bastards who aren't afraid to trade some paint and damage a few panels :P

No, he means Aussie Racing Cars, those little charicature like things.

Agreed, I do hope that they have different options for slipstream in GT5 though (Simulation, Strong, Off)

You are correct, it is indeed ridiculous. When I used to race on the Daytona Speedway 750p Pro event, I was regularly drafted from around 1.5 seconds back.

How far is 1.5 seconds? Well at 180mph+, it was almost the full length of the back straight at Daytona, between the 2nd and 3rd checkpoints!

The draft is too strong in GT

Only reason why it is so strong with NASCAR at daytona and talladega is because the cars only have 450 horsepower at those tracks, and at 190mph and only 450 horsepower wind resistance is crucial, thus the greater effect of the draft

However I disagree that someone 2 seconds slower can use the draft to keep up at a track like Suzuka

I've been able to keep up with drivers who are 1 second or less faster then me with the draft, but 2 seconds? no

Its only a big problem with 5 or 10 lap races, when full GT5 comes and you have 20, 30 lap races with pit stops there will be alot of laps run by yourself without the help of anyones draft.

Therefore I dont think they should decrease the draft's effect too much, but rather they should increase it's realism by giving a speed boost to the leading car when it has a trailing car right on it's bumper taking air off its spoiler, also they need to model "aero loose", which is when someone gets right behind you and takes the air off the rear of your car, and aero tight, when someone is right in front of you and their car takes the air off the front of your car, reducing your front downforce.

At lemans 1999 a mercedes CLr flipped over because the leading car took too much air off the front of it's nose

REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN CHANGE THE GEARBOX TO WHATEVER YOU THINK IS PROPER! IF THE TOP SPEED OF THE F2007 IN 7TH GEAR SHOULD BE 270-290 KPH THEN SET IT THERE!

... ok im done yelling at the thread starter :) just had to get that off my chest because hes nittpicking and i HATE nittpickers :P

I also believe that the drastic reduction in drag is a little excessive and it needs to be tuned down a tad. @Earth: the aero loose and tight ideas are a great idea but i find it would be difficult to do. i still want it though :)

It's possible that the aerodynamics don't take into account "dirty air" which negatively affects cars with high aero packages (i.e. F1 cars)

Thus the slipstreaming is good for the removal of drag but not good for the removal of downforce...

C.

Hotrails17, lol , you're gonna hate this.

I actually said that the f1 car went from 6th to 7th at 270-290. And i will change it!

Some of the points that you guys are making are good, that the loss of drag is not related to the loss of downforce-i think that's one of the most important. I hope that Polyphony Digital have changed these aerodynamic wrongs for gt5.
