GT5 smokes from tires anyone?

We are debating or criticizing GT5 about damage effects or lack weather and night effect, but what about one of the most important effects on a racing game, "The smoke from the tires." The skid marks, smokes on hard braking or smokes from cars that skid or rollover. I did not see even a spec of smoke from cars doing some hard braking or skidding. I don't see that in Gt right now. Its like they are floating or on smooth rails on the road

I don't even see if its bouncing on the road or on the curves or chicane. It is like the cars are separate from the environment. Hope too see more improvement on those aspects and more smoke effects. In any racing there will always be smoke from tires. If you watch GT racing on TV there are a lot of smoke from braking ,skid, drift and even the start of the race there are already a lot of smoke from accelerating tires from GT racing. Racing is so brutal to the tires in real racing. I saw this in GT racing in USA, Macau, Lemans, and even in NASCAR (especially when they do the donut) there are a lot of smoke from tires from start to finish, from turns o twist, etc. I just don't believe that in GT it is so clean not even sparks or small specks of smoke.

I hope they can actually add those effects. PS3 is capable of doing that and they have 6 months for it. PS3 is capable of Volumetric smoke. I rather see those effects than weather effects or night effects to make it more believable GT racing. Without night or weather effects is okay as long there is a realistic interaction between the wheel and the road. My goodness where did you see a racing competition where the tires does not even emit a single smoke. They are not hover crafts. And this is not a matchbox racing LOL

Yup skid marks where is it? This is a simulation of everything from physics to real interaction, friction and gravity. Why no skid marks and smoke from tires. From GT1 up tp GT5P and this latest videos of GT5 they never done smokes from tires. That is actually one of the biggest attraction in racing seeing those smokes from screeching tires. I hope they can address that soon or on the next GT.

Dude, GT5 Prologue has smoke from the tubes, of course GT5 will have it, now run along back to wherever you came from, thats a good boy.

And have a watch at this video I made, pay close attention to the cars going through the bus stop chicane at Daytona and you will see how a real driving simulator handels physics over bumps at 4:17.

Tyre smoke at 3:40

You do realise that smoke only comes from the tyres when the wheels lock out? Now judging by Prologue, I think its fair to assume all these cars have ABS active meaning they can't lock out the wheels. So you're not going to see smoke there. But turn the ABS off and you will get it.

Smoke from burnouts or drifting are far more common occurances and those also link in with the skidmark debate.

How rude and patronizing!!

The Op has got a very strong point - skidmarks and proper smoke will help bring the game to life.

Check this vid and forward to 38 seconds - Still think skidmarks and smoke are not an essential part of cars?

If this doesn't float your boat you are not a petrol head!!!

Please don't patronise. It just brings the forum down. Thanks.

You make a good point about the ABS, but really, in racing, surely lockups are by far the most common cause of tyre-smoke!

You can make smoke without locking the wheels, they just have to be going slower than the car is, that's all. ABS wouldn't keep that from happening.

As I said I saw GT racing in USA, Macau, and Le mans. All of them are using modern cars and I never saw a race from the start without a smoke from the tires from braking, turns, skid or rollover, or cars who lost there control. Even cars with ABS in modern racing still produce smokes from there tires always. Even the race start the acceleration shows tons of smokes. I don't know if PD watch racing properly. But there was never a GT race that did not produce any smokes from the tires. Maybe I'm asking to much for this gen but i hope in next gen GT6 we will see that. Smokes on tires makes it more believable GT racing. Hey even in F1 we can see smokes from tires. And we have nascar and rally , I recently saw NASCAR and RAlly racing this year and there are a lot of smokes from tires. Oh my imagine doing a donut move in NASCAR with a lot of smoke..drool.

Even the homage to the new Ferrari there is a part where that car is in the pit lane and accelerated at once. Not even a speck of smoke or skid marks. Did not finally invent a rubber which does not burn or make skid marks? LOL My point is instead of debating about weather effects, night effect or damage let us also point out the smokes on tires and skid marks features. They have 6 months to go and PS3 is very powerfull to do this in this generation. anyway maybe in PS4 they will do that.

I agree OP.
However, I say leave the smoke as it is, at least give us skid marks. I want to know how much traction I've lost. I hope this is in the final game!

Maybe on next gen GT games we will see it since , maybe ps3 is not capable of doing it yet or the developers cannot do it yet. anyway i still hope too see it in this game

I'd rather "feel" how much traction I've lost - you can can have your visual clues if you like, but I don't see they are necessary.

I demand 4D trees.

If I can't launch the game a year later and see how the trees have grown, then GT has completely failed as a simulation of any sort and Kaz should be ashamed of himself for foisting this mockery off upon us.

And those are most important things in a driving game?

I dont agree with him about the trees I dont care even if they look like card board boxes but I rather see an authentic GT race, which it is like you are actually driving in a race or watching ESPN or Star sports where you see all the smokes coming out of the tires of racing cars. It adds more fire and andrenaline pumping to the game to actually see and feel the smoke
