"Given that GT5 will come on at least one Blu-Ray"

No worries for disc space.. If anything, it will be on a dual-layer blu ray(thats 50GB) I dont care how many cars there will be, the game will not be over 50GB.

PS3 is capable of reading dual-layer blu rays, unlike some first gen blu ray players

There are many dual layer games. I'm sure with all the uncompressed audio, they could possibly max out a dual disk.

I think your confused. All 360 games are DVD9(dual-layer dvds). The PS3 as of now only has 3 games that are dual layer blu rays. MGS4, for example, uses only 10GB of the second layer(out of 25GBper layer). Making it a 35GB game. I dont see GT5 going over 50GB

All these great youtube videos of amazing sounding cars yet I'm suprised no one has posted any rotaries. What's wrong with you people!? lol We've had V8's of American and European sort, Italian supercars etc but no rotaries! What about the other Japanese cars? A nicely tuned 2JZ from a MKIV Supra sounds vicious, so do the RB's on the GT-R's. STi's throbbing boxer, S2000 & NSX screaming VTEC, I could go on...

I wonder if they will get the sound of a rotary right. I'm more interested in what it will sound like when either bridgeported or peripheral ported with an aftermarket exhaust. Mmm. That's what I really want. When I had FM3, porting the motor didn't even change the sound, I was shocked and disappointed. Let's hope PD don't make the same mistake.

Now instead of posting a video of an insane sounding rotary in real life, I'm gonna show you a custom car for GT Legends on the PC. It's a Mazda RX3 but the creator has done such an AMAZING job of the sound. (Well okay the mixing isn't great and it only sounds good when it's actually driving with the throttle on) but still, it sounds like a tough rotary :)

It's still not released, I have begged him to send me the one in this video even if it isn't finished, all I wanted was the sound but he has promised that it will be out soon and he can't send me any other versions :( Anyways listen to it:

:) Thats because they sound like a bunch of very angry wasp`s buzzing around in a empty MILO tin :dunce:

However everyone has his/her own taste`s and that vid you posted is the best sounding rotary vid i`ve seen/heard for a computer game. If the rotary powered cars sounded similar or just like the one in this in GT5 then i`d be persuaded to drive them more often.

haha yeah that's why I've been begging him for the car! Guess I'll have to wait.

But hey, if you like the sound of that rotary, that suggests to me that you haven't heard some proper rotaries before. I think you're underestimating them. I shall show you...

13b
beautiful sounding 13b (skip to 2:28)
13b peripheral ported on the rev limiter

20b
20b nice clean sound with backfire
Insane 20b rx7
Ridiculously Insane 20b
20b peripheral ported fc rx7 vs v8 supercar

26b
Mad Mike revving his 26b rx7
Mad Mike doing donuts in his 26b rx7
Mad Mike Drifting in the Formula D Thailand
Mad Mike drifting [in-car]

Just For Laughs

Son takes his Dad for a drive in his 550hp RX3 (His facial expressions make me LOL)
A TX5 Turbo dosing at maccas drive-thru (I know this isn't a rotary but this had me in stitches)

Sorry for posting so many. If GT5 gets anywhere close to these rotary sounds once modified, I will be the happiest man on earth.

Enjoy

You forgot the king of rotary cars soundwise at least; the Mazda 787 B. ;)

Griffith500, i just meant the complaints about sound were mostly concerning the general sound replication GT uses, and the comments how it should sound were meant to express GT is a sim which should replicate how the real car sounds.
If PD decided a Fiat 500 should sound like a Ferrari V12 they could, but it wouldn't be very accurate, although a lot wouldn't probably complain.
Likewise IRL you could design an exhaust system to make a car sound largely the way you think it should, if those exhausts were an option in GT they should be accurate, unless there were some PD concept exhausts whereby they could decide themselves how it should sound.

True. I was thinking about putting it in, although Mad Mike's RX7 has a 26b in it and sounds pretty much the same as a 787B cause they're pretty much the same engines, one is the original R26B and Mike's is custom built with 2 13b's. Gives me goosebumps everytime

GT5 better be like that. So much attention to detail, but sound is lacking in all of their games.

I will be very pissed if they don't fix it.

I'll record some comparisons later, but I don't own all the cars in GT3, only 35% complete but I do have 100 million in the bank :D

Cool! I've decided to go and make use of my brother's PS2 tomorrow, so I can see first hand - just need to find my memory cards now!

snip it!

Hey, I like rotaries! I got woken up by the loping idle of an RX-7 outside my house once at some ungodly hour... I wasn't annoyed, I just went to the window to see it zoom off!

I'll take that 20B FD, thankyou very much! I think I prefer the 3-rotor over the 4-rotor - how odd!

You're absolutely right! 👍 I was just illustrating that it is technically feasible to make the exhaust of a car sound like one from almost any other car (assuming you have enough cylinders - rotaries are a completely different animal!)

Like this man said:
The header lengths can change the sound a lot
A Subaru flat 4 with unequal header length sound like it does - uneven and throbby like one side of a V8

swap in an aftermarket equal length header set and it sounds like a typical 4 banger, exhaust wise...
But you still have that uneven throb of a boxer engine on the the induction side

First Ferrari 458 hoonage captured!:D
Enjoy the sounds di questa bella machina!;)

That thing is out of this world! Que Macchina! Also, bonus points for good use of the phrase hoonage! ;)

actually after recording some samples, the difference is not that great. Some cars sound better, some worst, and some the same. I actually think the GT4 Subie sounds better in the lower range, you can hear the burble from the exhaust like it is in real life, just that it's really low in volume, and you hit the high revs so quickly you never get to enjoy it.

The Shelby Cobra sounds different

The C6 Corvette is nothing like the Enthusia version! But it well may be what a stock C6 sounds like

That fact about scoobies quite surprised me when I heard one in person(with a custom muffler)! There was none of that familiar brrrrrrrrr that I used to attribute to a boxer type engine, and then I read about equal and unequal header lengths thing in a mag and it made sense, but in the process I kinda lost some fondness to that engine or the mystery of it... ;)

I own and drive an Impreza, and it's still really uneven and throbby from the induction side, not matter what you do to the exhaust, which is 50% of the sound if you have an open air filter, and just as loud as the exhaust at full load!

Even the non turbo Imprezas, sound throbby stock, but once you put an aftermarket exhaust on them, well some models, even just a cat back system, it doesn't sound like you'd expect

Alfas used to have boxer engines, and they don't sound like a Subaru, but still nothing like an inline 4

Alfa and Porsche too, you can still hear that "throbby sound", though not as much as in Subaru's models...
Can't wait to fire up one of these in GT5!:D Hope the sound will match its awesome looks!

22B FTW!:)

Actually no i`m not really a fan of the rotary engine or sound. V8`s are my poison (or a good V12) Those vids you posted are pretty good at capturing the sound of the rotary`s (yes all of them :-) )

If PD can make the rotary powered cars sound as good and realistic as the cars in the clips then i`d more inclined to use them more often. I think i actually started GT3 with a FC RX-7. Was a bad choice then and now,but i managed to progress reasonably far into the game with it and use it across a lot of the classes in the early stages of the game until it became out gunned and sent back to the car yard.

God I love the sound of rotaries.

But the best sound in the entire world, to my ears, is the one made by an Alfa V6.

It barks, it roars, it howls. If there's a V6 Alfa in GT5, they better nail it. The sound is just too good to not get right.

Also the SZ is awesome. I want one badly.

Well, the Brera in Prologue basically had the same V6 as the SZ, although differently tuned ofcourse and with the sound restrictions of today it is no way near the sound of the SZ.
Hope they get it right, and with other exhaust options in GT5 it will be much closer, but that SZ should definitely be included in my opinion alongside the Montreal, 8C Competitione, 33 Stradale, TZ 1 and 2 and, well, the list goes on and on.....

^Actually the Brera uses a different Gm engine which is not related the the Alfa V6 in the SZ, I think the engine is made by Holden in Australia.

You're right, i had to look it up, always assumed they still used a further development of the Arese V6 engine.
Thanks for pointing out my misstake, although i'm very dissapointed they now use a GM-derived engine, nothing against GM but it isn't very Italian or very Alfa-esque.
At least if it was Fiat-based it would still retain some of its characteristics, but cost-cutting spoils a lot of things i suppose.

but SZ is hmm let's say special looking, and not in a good sense.;)

I love it, but I love just about everything Zagato has ever done. Even that Topolino they did that looked like a spaceship with the grille off a Chrysler Airflow and Buick portholes.

hihihi A lolcar!:) You sure have a peculiar taste!;) (This one is special too, but kinda cute though):D

It is a beautiful little machine, just hope Zagato will create some small lightweight beautiful but modern new coupe based on the current generation of FWD Abarth's in the near future which will also sound raspy ( not to go too far off topic ;)).
