Firstly, thanks :)

Secondly, I think PD are fine the way they are doing things - they handle the artistry, as it were, whilst Sony manage the commerce side of things.

Nothing you said was incorrect, of course; I mean it's just that Sony must know what they're doing, right? :scared:
Haha, of course ;)

To be honest, I think SONY and PD have made a complete mess of getting the first proper Gran Turismo out on PS3. But, we are where we are, and I'm sure that what we get will be fantastic.

You saw its awesomeness.

Now hear it.

I just posted this in the general car forum, but when I get my RX-8 and put an intake and exhaust on it, it better sound like this.

Oh god that little bark when you lift off the throttle.

I absolutely love rotaries with a passion, but I have to say that RX8 sounds horrible. Whoever modified that has done a terrible job. I see/hear nice sounding RX8's quite alot where I'm from and especially in the rotary specialist workshop just down the road from my mate's place. They sound almost as nice as the 13B-REW in the last gen RX7 without having to do much. That I'm afraid doesn't sound good at all, it's lost all its low end "brrr".

I'm one of those weirdos who like the sound of a rotary more if it's obnoxious. They already make strange noises in comparison to a piston engine, and one that is too loud and makes a course, unrefined and, well, annoying noise is incredibly appealing to me. Most people don't get rotaries. They're weird little engines that work a lot different than the piston engines most people are used to, they behave differently than piston engines, they require more care and attention than piston engines, and they make strange and unusual sounds. I want people to hear it and go "What the hell was that? And who was that jackass?"

You know how Mazda used to say their engines went "hmmmmmmm"? I don't want a rotary that goes "hmmmmmm" I want one that goes "BRRRRAAAAPPP!" It should sound like Satan farting.

Come to think of it a rotary engine is in many aspects the total opposite of a diesel engine.
Rotary is high revving, low torque, small capacity and high fuel consumption.
Diesel is low revving, high torque, large capacity compared with a petrol piston engine and has low fuel consumption.
There was a diesel in GT4 ( BMW 120D ) and i quite liked the fact you could have a diesel in a game.
They don't sound very exciting however, but i'm all for more engine types which sound realistically, also those which don't sound that nice IRL. ;)

Also, put gas in a diesel, it won't work, but you can make a rotary run on pretty much anything without much fuss. I've heard of rotaries running on diesel, hydrogen, natural gas, kerosene, various alcohols, LPG, nitromethane, that weird fuel they make by liquefying coal, biofuels and a whole bunch of other stuff. That's the wankel's greatest strength: you can make one run on pretty much anything that can be injected into the engine that burns or explodes, because no matter what goes on inside, it's probably going to be fine.

Add another rotor and maybe I'll consider it :sly:

I thought the point of the legalis was to be street-quiet? It's a bit raspy for my tastes, on a rotary, anyway. Still, sounds nice! 👍

And it sounds nothing like a 2-stroke :odd: But the rider was clearly a tool :dopey:

That Venom GT might actually become the modern day Cobra, same basic formula, butch-up a small lightweight British sportscar then put in a big American V8 and all created by a small dedicated firm.
Only real difference is the mid-engined lay-out, ah progress comes in simple changes sometimes.:)

Except Hennessey is a crook and as far as I can tell, Carol Shelby was an all around likable guy.

If they could make the cars sound as realistic as possible, then i would just sit there and rev the 787B non-stop. I'm really hoping that the sounds are a great improvement over GT5P. And do you guys think that when you upgrade your car, eg change aspiration or upgrade the exhaust, that the sound of the car would change again? That would be the icing on the cake if they did.

That was the case in previous GT-games so i think it will be safe to assume it will also be the case in GT5.:)

ZOMG... how could you miss it! Cars with street exhausts are wimpy and polite. When my Supra gets into the power band, it begins to grunt nicely, and it's the same with the Supra in GT4. Of course, running between 2-3000 rpms, it sounds a bit like an airplane - or vacuum cleaner - but that's muffling for you.

However, put a racing muffler on a 300ZX, and as it gets into peak rpms it begins to shriek like a banshee! And I'll never forget the strange transformation of my Mazda Demio when I race modded it in GT2. When I finally get my capture card, someday I'll post a YouTube video of it so you guys can enjoy the thrill too. :D

Well obviously I must have not paid that much attention to the engine sounds on the other games. I would try it out on GT4 but my stupid 40GB ps3 can't play ps2 games. I'm also hoping that the race cars in this game are 10x louder, I want to hear them backfire and popping as they race around the track.

The tuned cars in GT5:P drown out their standard variants - the levels (and sound LOD system, if used) need tweaking, but it's almost there.

No doubt 👍 When driving againts the tuned cars with a stock car you can hear the difference. I really like that, and sometimes when they pass me it shakes me up because its so loud!

There is a difference in sound between the stock 370z and the Tuned one in the time trial, apart from the transmission whine in the Tuned version. Plus also a volume difference from the outside. I think the normal one is taken from real life, as it sounds quite close to a real one, inside the car, as I have shown, and the tuned one is more synthesised. The sound on the outside is more or less the same as inside, just mixed a little different.
But since it's a cut down Time Trial build, who knows if this is what it'll sound like in GT5, or maybe some layers and sounds have been cut out to keep file size down.

For example they only used one tyre sound in the Time Trial, but in Prologue there are more variations and braking has a different scraping sound if your tyres are not locked.

Tuned - downshifts sound a little different, maybe because the press version has clutch activated?

Well I took the advice you guys mentioned and went back to my old friend GT5P. I took a Honda NSX out for a drive and then afterwards raced the amuse S2000, and that car absoloutely howls. The amuse isn't even a full race car so i'm definately satisfied with the sounds. This is prologue as well, so it wouldn't surprise me if in the full game the cars sounded even better.

Those tuned cars are basically a variation of the standard cars, so it would be logical for them to sound different.
The question asked however was if standard cars being tuned would sound different, and they sure do ( at least they did in GT4 ).
Different exhausts on the same car sounded differently and there was a distinct turbo-whistle when you decided to bolt on a turbo, etc.
