Hey all, I'm really excited about getting online and racing some real competitors, but that hope has been put on halt for quite some time now. A while back I finally got wifi, and these GT5 updates started pouring in. 17 I believe, and equaling in total well over 6gb. Anyways I installed and as many people experienced, I got those installation errors. I pushed on and finally got to the final install. That kept failing and eventually I wastold that my gt5 file may be corrupt. So against my will I deleted the file reinstalled and started downloading all again. Now I don't have uncapped internet, only 10gb per month so I can't keep reinstalling updates like this. However things got progressively worse as the second time I tried to update igot unending errors again. I finally decided to go big and format my playstation. So now I've got an empty playstation and I'm not keen to go through any more hassles, deleting or reinstallings (other than installing the game). Can anyone give me advice as to why these download errors occured, how I can prevent them, is there something I'm doing wrong, is my ps3 damaged or faulty, basically any advice at all will be greatly valued. Please help, I'm a big car fan, I want to race, get my money up and get my garage full. Please help.

Thanks guys

Try hardwiring your PS3 straight into the modem. I think may help.

This.

If you're trying to download over 16gb of updates over wifi, all it takes is a small interruption possibly because someone else was doing something online, can cause the data to get corrupted.

Hardwire it in and the leave it overnight to update.

Not sure what to tell you about the faulty download/installation... If you explain the situation to your ISP they might give you some extra data on your plan for this month, especially if you have been a good customer. Just a thought.

My wifi has the same issue. Whenever I try any update (even small ones) the timer shoots up to 985mins at 3% and then errors come up. So whenever there is an update, I have to go to another persons house to get it.

I gave up updating and racing using a wifi modem long ago, it p*ssed too many people off with the lag. Hardwired PS3 is the only way to go for updates, downloads and online play.

if you dont have a save game download elite mossy patch blocker. it may be for mw2 but it works with gt5. you may not be anle to play online thou im not sure. at least u can play offline i guess?

Many have said it but hard wire is the best method, I use a cat6 cable and its improved my connection massively

I used to get all sorts of errors on WiFi now I'm hard wired and have never had an issue with any updates.....The advice from many others here is good - HARD WIRE it with a good quality cat cable :)

Hard wire,go buy some cat cable and your issue is solved or download the file/files from a friends ps3 onto usb stick.

I had problems that you couldn't believe playing GT5 over WiFi, and ONLY GT5. As others have said hard wire is the way to go. This has fixed every issue I had, so much so that I have to disconnect my super hub from the virgin cable downstairs, then take the cable out the back of my Teevo upstairs and put it into the super hub as I don't have a Ethernet cable long enough to run downstairs.

Hard wire and run the media server off, you will have no more problems.

Another option if your PS3/country works with it is to buy a newer version of the game. For example, the newer US version (Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition) includes all the updates to spec 2.0 on the disc.

If you fear it's a hardware problem you might contact Sony and they might be able to walk you though diagnostic tests.

Thanks to everyone for the help, I'm truely grateful, I've been on the internet for long trying to find a decent answer, and finally I got it. One idiot even had the nerve to say on some randomly googled website that it was due to (And I quote) "the selection of cars in your garage". If you happen to see a pink vw beetle covertible entering into a super car race and then proceeding to drive in reverse the wholoe way.... that's most probably the idiot that made the above comment :D
But thanks again, I didn't even expect to get a response, let alone get so many in such a sort space of time. I hope maybe when I'm finally online and I need some guidance around online racing I can post another question or two :) As an exiting question I must ask, what do you think is the top 5 engine sounds in GT5? I think M5 (the V10 is brutal at 8000rpm), GNX (a true V8 rumble), XFR (As long as you don't touch the engine or gearbox and use surround sound), RS6 (really has that Audi sound locked down) and the Vanquish ( A V12 of beauty). Any other choices?

The RMed, non - supercharged '10 Camaro was the first and only car that makes me want to crank my stereo up. There was one other car that has an absolutely savage tone, but can't remember which one it is. Might've been that other Chaparral car. The one without the ground effects fan.

I believe you are correct.

First time I heard it was during an aspec race and it started up front so I couldn't see it and was wondering why they had artillery firing off in a racing game. Lost that try and had to watch the replay to figure out which car was making all that noise.

Wireless is not as evil as some make it to be :)

I am on Australian Cable with a 'max' of 30, but generally do 24. I run wireless to the PS3 & can host 14 with voice or 16 without. It really all boils down to the ISP you are with, regardless of region ;)

The ISP's in south africa are not as great at those abroad, understand that we just started using proper adsl lines a few years back, we haven't gotten to the point of international standards yet. Ok I got another slight question, so prior to formatting my ps3 I saved my game progress on a usb. Will I have any issues or proceedures I have to be aware of to ensure my data is loaded on properly. And another question, I had a toyota monolta 8v (something like that) race car, and a bmw 3 series race car and a ew Japanese race cars so all races in extreme series I could win one way or another. Further more I was on level 30 and getting 98.000 credits with my ford gt40 racecar (the new one) in that american race on daytona. But I lost that profile due to corruption and I'm on level 25 with my new profile. Now I need a car that's light, ridiculously fast and handles well. Problem is I don't have that gt40 so I can't build up the money to buy a le mans car, and without the toyota manolta I can't do the extreme gran turismo championship or any other race that features things like the escudo, bmw v12 le mans, Citroen GT,mclaren F1 racecar, peugeot 908 race car or anything in that league. The bmw race car I got now is a silly 320I, and its not exactly the definition of power. So here's my question...is there a specific race i must do to get one of these or any other good car, if not what way (at level 25) would you go to get a racing car and finally if I get to the online racing will it make earning money easier for me? My one friend told me that if you play online atleast once everyday the prize money goes up and eventually you can win up to 125,000 credits on just one race! Any truth to that?

Oh and quick other thing, do you think porsche are purposely not allowing their cars to be on any of the gran turismo's? I know RUF is basically extra modified porsches, but why would porsche not want to promote their brand on one of the most successful motor racing game platforms in the world?

2 things;

1. Try not to double post, it annoys the moderators.

2. Porsche cannot let anyone else use their cars because EA own the licence, and it's exclusive to EA, which I think I'm right in saying that turn 10 paid an absurd amount of money for.

Sorry about the double post, I also gotta shorten my posts abit too. Just had so many questions, when I found a place that has all the right answers I went crazy lol
