One thing about any simulators (Racing or others) that makes it very different from other games is the joy we get from "simulating" the real thing.

This being said, almost every racing or flight simulators i have played which supports online play have always lacked some very serious features. After watching that Papyrus video from the other NR3000 thread, it reminded me of the serious lack of Tournament Organisation features/support most games have.

As an example; Forza2 came up with some cool ideas, but failed miserably at all of them.

Having the possibility of organizing private long-term tournaments with a full range of features seen through HOME would really make a hell of a difference in this next installment of the GT series:

Set number of races per week, full statistics support (best lap, total laps, best tier time, all tier times, total time...), qualifications, car selections, entry-fee, multi-class entries, heavy modification restrictions, full pit service (tire change, refueling, minimal damage repairs, aero changes), Yellow Flags, Black Flags, Blue Flags, Rolling starts, pace car starts, specific number of laps... and many other features...

Overall, this is a full service system that is hard to implement, but is getting more and more necessary for online play for any serious players. Right now, in this supposedly "next generation" gaming world, players are still stuck organizing their leagues manually with home-made schedules, webpages, blogs, statistics in Excel documents... when is the time where all this will be available directly through the game?

Good point, i agree, I too get tired of trying to organize personal events with people when there could be an online service already available. I think anytime between the end of this year and late next year, some games should have this kind of system implemented however, I don't think the developers see this as a major concern.:guilty:

I don't think the things RedOak mentioned are hard to implement at all. I think it's a matter of whether the developer wants to or not.

Giving the host of a race the ability to throw yellow or black flag or give out penalties when he sees fit has been seen in racing simulations, notably NR2003. It can't be that hard to program. Again, it's if PD wants to do it.

NBA2K7 has a feature for an online league. You can choose # of games, length of quarters etc. I don't know if it keeps track of stats but I'm sure it does. For PD to save the stats of a 10 race season in GT5, I can't imagine the file size being over 1-2 MBs.

Once again, it's possible. I just got finished racing a NR2003 special event race with 37 other drivers. The 'bosses' watching the race were able to give people laps back by letting them go around during caution and then removing the black flag they got. Then at the end of the race the game gave us a detailed stat sheet of the race, fast lap, most laps led, everything.

My Prediction: They will probably not include any tornament system, or a very gimped one. Online will be barely functional, to the minimum.

However, GT6 will contain great online play, more cars, and even more stuff. They know you're still going to buy the game.

Well i don't think it'll be barely functional. I doubt they'd leave out key factors of online gameplay ie automated chat, better servers, less glitches online, nearly very low to no lag..the list goes on and on:ouch:plus they've had more then enough time to perfect almost every aspect. if they'd need to push the release date back to fix glitches, by all means, i'll wait, just as long as it's not 6 months to another year :sly:. We've been waiting over a decade for the drive of our lives(since original GT) and i want to enjoy every second of it at it's perfection :dopey:.

GT6, i can only imagine what that will look like :P

GT6: due release in 2012!

I agree with Stunt Drifter. PS3 is online! That means they can upgrade online system just like firmware updates.

Yep. And they can do "add-on, downloadable packs" etc. through the PSN Network. I have high hopes for GT5 i know it won't disappoint me, even w/o a tournament system, although it would be nice ;)
