GT5P force feedback problem.

please help me. I've decided that it'd be a good idea to purchase a logitech g25 for gt5p--but my issue has to do with feedback so all logitech wheel experience applies.

This is my first 'true' force feedback wheel, and I got it just yesterday. (I had the speedster 3 for forza1, but that isn't quite true feedback).
I like my g25 just fine, and have gotten used to it in relation to the game except for one aspect--force feedback. when I lose grip, sometimes I fishtail.

what I mean by this is sometimes the game's feedback decides to spin my wheel (sometimes to *FULL LOCK*) ruining a perfectly recoverable situation. now that my wheel has moved, the car shifts accordingly (the wrong direction), and my feedback forces the wheel to go the other way. This situation generally repeats until I spin or manage to apply the brakes to almost complete stop. And yes, I have seen it magnify itself into a lock-to-lock situation.

what the hell is this?
is it a weakness of force feedback in general, my specific wheel or the game?
are there settings to eliminate this? (will post my settings below)
is there a way I'm supposed to react to this action besides just applying the brakes or spinning?
or is this really how a car reacts in a 60+mph slide?

I don't know if this is normal or not. up to lost traction the wheel in great. my settings are:
strength 2
power assist on
active steering on mild (an attempt to fix this I don't think I should have to do)

please help, this wheel was very expensive, and right now, I wish it was a common spring wheel. (though having a clutch is very nice)

Active steering needs to be off.

Set the physics to simulation. All problems fixed.

I've had active steering off (turning it on seemed silly)
but I can't set physics to simulation online. it won't let me--is this some kind of unlock?

I've been playing online's free run mode to get used to the wheel, because it seems to be the only to play the game without being in a 'race' of some kind

thanks for the tip though, I think I will try upping the physics in whatever mode will let me.

Simulation mode is always on for DFGT DFP and G25 wheels. Sim mode is only on and off for the older wheels.. but just in case set it to ON ;)

You can go into Arcade mod without racing AI, Just move to the Time Trial event.. There you go single race without going online

When you go into GT5P wheel options. Turn off everything, like the power steering, and even tho SIM wont work .. but just keep it on SIM level. and set feedback to about 5 or higher to not miss the experience.. Get use to it ;) The feedback won't rip hands off.

Please play the game on Professional physics.. that's the fastest way to get the hang of the wheel. Turn off Power Assist.. or whatever it as called.. basically it tries to help you to not spin out.. but it will make you spin out more. so turn it off. Also have Traction Controls all OFF.. ABS.. that's all up to you.. These options are found right before start of the race when you choose tires physics, etc..

So yeah it really takes long time to practice.. it will take few weeks sometimes.. When you make a turn to jerky, wheel will tell you and try to move it the other way.. keep the wheel steady and don't listen to it where it wants to go, but where you want to go. SO keep the wheel strong and steady. Also the smoother you are with wheel, the better the lap time ;)

You control the wheel, not the wheel controls you.

oh professional physics was the key! this is *incredible* thanks for the quick help.
they should just call professional physics 'easy mode' for short.

feedback still does push the wheel where it wants to a bit, but it's not a problem (car's already spun beyond recoverable when it happens)

I've upped my strength to 5 now, the reason it was at two is so that I could overcome the wild and random wheel movements of standard physics. Now if I get adventurous, I'll kill power steering.

so is online 'pro physics' an unlockable, or just not available? (I haven't completed my a level races yet, so I don't have any unlockables)

If i'm not mistaken certain Online events ONLY allow standard physics, which is why i never play them. I only play the Professional Races. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I have my g25 set to simulation, professional physics. FF5, power-assist off (power-steering) and Active-steering (off) feels great. For drifting you can start off with the power-assist ON as fighting the force-feedback when counter-steering can be a lot for beginners. Once i got better at it i turned it off.

You have a lot better feel of the car/road without the power-assist. You may have been feeling the effects of the crazy snap over-steer bouncing the wheel back and forth. It's the weight transfer/shifting of the car when it steps out and trying to correct. You feel it a lot in the RWD cars if the end starts to come out. If you don't catch and correct it, exactly what you explained happens. Wheel wants to start going every-which way till you fix or loose it. I giggle when i watch my friends who want to take on the 600hp rwd cars with no traction control and no game experience. Then they go back to the Integra Type-R i suggested to get comfortable with the game. :)👍

Um.. Professional physics is SIM physics.. they are more real and harder.. So Standard Physics are arcade physics.. easier to controll.... But they will make you lazy. So just practice on PRO mode.. that way you will learn right from the top!

I completed all the events.. So PRO physics are always available so I am not sure if you start the game you can race PRO or not online.. but only for PRO level race events professional physics work.

So remeber
Professional = sim
Standard = arcade

It really takes long time to get hang of it..
But Practice with FF cars, and then move into AWD, then pick a RWD car. If you can Master F40 you can master any other car.

By the way.. you can turn on CLUTCH on and OFF by pressing TRIANGLE button on the G25 shifter (its the very top black button)
When you enter a race, and you have control of the car, press the button once.. clutch will work for the whole race. You will have to do it every time you enter a race.

I'm trying to complete my 'a' level races now so I can race online with pro physics. It's kind of a pain, because I like racing slower cars, and it's basically forcing me into a Nissan GTR to do those (and honestly I'm not doing well). I knocked off the first 'a' race and most of 'b' level last night though.

hell, in Forza1, I pretty much stuck with class D cars and I played that game for a *long* time. I don't see why I really have to move up in classes to use a physics engine online...

but yeah. wheel feels great in pro physics (std physics still beat me to death) so now all I have to do is figure out how to drive a GTR. :scared:
or I could just jump back to gt4 on ps2 for a bit. I lose the clutch and h-plate shifter, but I do gain 'sunday drive' curvy road mode and a 'metric buttload' of other cars.

Think of the practice and experience you are gaining in 'a' class. Soon you will be reaping the benefits of pro physics. Kinda like any other game where you have to complete tasks to get upgrades. You will get there soon enough.

By the way there is going to be a race on Datona for class A where you have to pass so many cars in two or one laps where you will probably have to switch to Standard Mode to beat unless you are some kind of racing Gawd 👍

force feed back is great in both modes. i personally think cars handle very similarly in both modes, but race tires in pro feel like normal tires in standard.
