Hi all! I recently switched to glorious HD :) but something that has been bothering is that the edges of the car models are all jagged and the needles/dials in the cockpit don't have smooth edges. It looks as if there isn't any form of anti-aliasing. I'm using a Viewsonic VX2260WM monitor for it and I've got a high quality HDMI cable (gold plated+oxygen free copper) so I'm confused as to why its like that. My monitor is capable of 1080p so its running at 1080p. The jagged edges also stretch out into other games like MGS4 or Tekken 6 so can anyone tell me if there are some settings I'm meant to adjust or am I stuck with those jagged edges because the PS3 was designed that way? Thanks! :)

The PS3 isn't suited best for a HD monitor, its ideally designed for a TV and you will probably find you will have more jaggies than if you were running on a TV. In saying that, you can try turning your sharpness on your monitor all the way to minimum, turning the contrast and brightness down a little.

I agree with lion-face here,i was playing off a 23,5inch 1080P samsung monitor and i could notice the difference when i switched to a samsung 1080P TV.
There were less jaggies, although i think the colour was slightly better on the monitor.

Is this the case with all monitors? I just have a 720p tv, so I have considered to buy a 1080p monitor, but now im not sure so sure...

Yeah pretty much. Your 720p TV will produce a much better picture for your PS3 than any monitor would regardless of resolution. If you were looking at buying the monitor for its higher resolution over your TV, then I wouldn't recommend the purchase.

Just out of curiosity, what is your current TV's Size and model number?

I just fired up GT5P after not having played it for yonks, and god its so turd.

The graphics now look ok instead of beautiful - GT5 will be old and out of date by the time its released.

No need to diss the Prologue. Yeah, the backgrounds are a little sparse (apart from London), but the cars still look way better than newer games like NFS:Shift.

As for GT5 being old & out of date before it comes out. Surely that's an oxymoron anyway.

Turd?? compared to what? i still love GT5p as do 99percent of people on here,Graphics are still awsome, and when GT5 comes out it will blow everything for years to come.

If I am not mistaken, the game uses less AA on 1080p than it does on 720p. That will have more effect on jaggies than monitor vs TV.

Anyway, the game looks very nice on either 720p/1080p, despite that it's nearly 2 and a half years old. Here's a little flick I shot from one of Hyperspeed's laps (view in 720p for best quality): It looks amazing, and GT5 will look even better/more detailed than this!

Ok, thanks for your anwser, I will wait with a new monitor then..
Dont remember the model number, but its a 37" phillips. Its a cheap model. But i saw a 42" sony bravia 1080p tv yesterday with gt5p, much more expencive then my phillips (first time I played gt5p on a full hd tv). but I was shocked how little difference it was in picture quality, jaggies who I see on my 720p was there on the bravia too.

I dont know if it will help everyone but I run on 1080P and to help with the jaggies I played around with the Sharpness option on my TV... it does help quite a bit to smooth out the jaggies... Just dont turn it down too far.. :P

Good tip Blitz187, I did tweak the settings when I tried the bravia and ended up with the sharpness around middle.. When thinking of it I did sit longer away from the tv when I tested the 1080p bravia, but I think its still strange that I didnt see more difference in picture quality from my 720p phillips. Bluray movies was much better though..

Sounds like an opportunity to plug my display setup thread again :D

The TV won't improve on jaggies, and 1080p doesn't change much over 720p, for the most part it really is all marketing and hype. Really the only difference between your TV and the Bravia would have been color reproduction and contrast, but it would be hard to see the difference unless you knew what you were looking for in the picture or you had the TV's side by side to compare.
