GT5p violent jerking problems

Hi everybody

I have searched around this forum (and elsewhere) for a solution to this problem, but although I have seen some similar issues/threads, none of them solves my problem:

When going in a straight line my wheel jerks left and right, making it really hard to keep the car in balance. As far as I have noticed the problem concerns all cars, although some are worse than others. The last time I played the game was driving the GTR on High Speed Ring (Event B8 I think), and the strength of the jerking motion is ridiculous. Even going 100-130 km/h, the wheel would jerk rather violently, and letting go results in a negative feedback spiral that ends in a crash. Now, some of you might respond not to let go of the wheel, but that is really not the issue here. The issue here is: Why the F does the wheel act like that?!? I have never, ever driven a car that behaved like this. Imagine a one hour trip on the freeway with the wheel going like that?

My wheel is a Fanatec 911 Turbo S, but my DFP actually did the same, just not quite as violently. The FF on the wheel is currently at 33% but I have tried all settings...

In game settings are:
Professional/simulation (both equally bad)
FF is currently 3, but I have tried every setting from 1 through 10

Have anyone else experienced this, and found a solution?

I don't have this problem in Forza 3, and will try NFS Shift tonight to see how it behaves, but I think it's a GT-problem..

Looking forward to constructive ideas :)

Claus

This happens on my DFP as well... its a known bug in GT5:P which reaches its worst point when you use the F2007 car... Then it just gets ridiculous... Only tip I can give is that you have to hold the steering wheel in place... I dont have a Fanatec so maybe someone with a Fanatec can actually give you better advice... But as far as I know its considered a bug and not fixable at the moment...

Thx for your reply... I was afraid this was the case. I REALLY hope that it is solved in the final game, or I am going to skip out on it. It completely ruins the game for me... And I can't for the life of me understand how the hell gt5p was released with this bug...

As far as Fanatec vs Logitech goes, I think (but someone correct me if I'm wrong) that the Fanatec is 'seen' as a G25 in most games..

FFB and handling code is very buggy in GT5:P and there is even some crucial telemetry missing for slip dynamics for FFB.(which even GT4 has)

PD has turbo S wheel now inside the studio so GT5 will a different thing.

ps: put ingame setting to 2 and wheel setting to 66 or 33%

The only time my wheel get's "violent" is when I let go of it down the straights.

Why don't you post a video of your problem, maybe then people can see if they are getting the same problems.

And that is exactly what he is talking about. We all know it; no video needed.

Precisely... I don't think a video would clarify the problem further. I just wanted to know if it was a known problem and if it would be corrected in future versions, and so it seems :)

Looking forward to a jerk free GT5, oh hopefully also the demo we're all going to be downloading soon :D

If i let go to my DFGT this also happens but its easily controllable. I've heard of this happening to a few people and there is a video on youtube that shows it (can't link as i can't access youtube at work). I'll have to feel this for myself but my Turbo S.

To be honest I always thought this was GT's way of telling you to put your hands back on the wheel? Whenever I would take my hands off it would shake in such a manner, but as soon as I would put them back on again it would stop.

Well, first off all the game shouldn't tell when to put your hands on your steering wheel. The cars should just behave like they do in real life. Second, I don't know if the fanatec is more powerful, even though I tried using the lowest settings possible, but the jerking is so powerful that it's almost impossible to keep a straight line even with both hands on the wheel. Besides the fact that it upsets the balance of the car going into corners, it's also just too uncomfortable to sit like that for hours...

Thats a nice thought, but thats not it... :) I know on my dfp If Im going down a straight the wheel WONT do it if I line it up completely straight... it will sit still for a moment on certain cars, but then the longer you let it go, the jerking will come back and get worse...

Problem is solved in academy demo. Game is still freaking hard to drive compared to puppy game forza 3 :)

Yep :) I'm so glad to see that it is gone!

And yes, I have my problems as well in the demo, but I think my main problem is figuring out how to brake most efficiently. I haven't quite gotten used to the new wheel, and especially the brake pedal. It's so ******* hard and there's no real sense of modulation...

Okay, this sucks... I was a bit too quick in concluding that the problem is gone. I didn't notice it initially because I used the paddle shifters to begin with, but now I'm using the H-shifter, and the problem is back. Kind of. It is possible to go in a straight line now without the wheel moving, but if I move it just a teeny tiny bit to either side, and don't have a firm grip on the wheel, it starts that negative cycle again. Going down the long straight on Indy in 6th and letting go of the wheel with one hand to downshift into the corner, it's almost impossible to keep the wheel steady with the other hand, and it upsets the balance.

To be honest I think it sucks. A lot. Using the flappy paddles minimizes the problem as I don't have to take my hands of the wheel, but come on.. This can't be right? If Forza 3 and NFS Shift (just to name the two other games I've tried) can do it properly, why the F can't Polyphony?!?

I use the G25 with force feed back setting of 7 without active steering and have never experience any weird jerking on the straights. Have you upgraded to the latest spec?

Yeah, my gt5p is Spec III, but the sad thing is that the new demo has the same problem... It's really strange, because no other game has this problem...

I have the same Fanatec wheel and experienced the same problem at first.

The I reduced the vibrations (Sho in the wheel menu to 33) and it's okay now.

But I have some other problems :

GT5 Academy sometimes lags (don't know if it's the wheel fault) and sometimes FF disappears for 0.5 to 1" in the slowest curves :odd:

I haven't tried reducing vibrations in the demo.. I'll try that!

I have also experienced the FF disappearing - I don't know if it's because of overheating of the wheel (I noticed the cooler was running at the time) or if it's because of the wireless connection. Or maybe a combination. I have it hooked up via usb cable now, and haven't experienced it since...

The only lag I have seen is when you cross the finish line, it sort of lags a little...

EDIT: Reducing the vibrations settings didn't help at all. It's something to do with the FF, but even with FF set to 1 and 33 on the wheel, it still does it. It's frustrating.

My settings : 7 in game, Sens OFF, FF 66, Sho 33, Dri Off, ABS Off in wheel.

I will try the USB cable...

Edit : It works, no more FF problem :)

HAHA!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Taurim :) For some reason I must have accidently have set the wheel on 540 degrees - setting it back to 900 or OFF did the trick!!! Weeee! :D

When this centering spring stupidious setting is going to be omitted from Gran Turismo? This is very important in fine-controlling the car! By the way my wheel is DFP which in other games is fine.

I'm experiencing the same problem in GT5P using the G27 I've tried everything with no improvement. I've just gotten used to it though.
