What about Rauh Welt? Don't they make Porsche reproductions and sell them as their own like RUF?
Keep in mind that Rauh Welt is just a body shop. The man behind Rauh Welt has his cars tuned by another shop in his town. They're still regarded as Porsche's.

It sucks that the biggest manufacture with motorsport background isn't in GT or FM. EA... Smh

Ah well, bring on the RUF's.

Anyone here remember that there was a Porsche in Gran Turismo 3? You had to use a gameshark to unlock it, but it was hidden on the disk. Like the modeled it then couldn't use it for some reason.

Edit: It's in this video, skip to 1:18

RUF would be just fine (whose cars are built on porsche chassis) if they'd made at least one or two of them premium. RGT and Yellow Bird would work for me. :)

Shift has a lot of potencial but how can a developer ruin the physics that much?

It has great cars, great tracks...

I bet they will advertise Shift 3 like T10 advertised FM4... "We worked together with Pirelli and implemented the best physics of all times" bla bla... And at the end there are steering assists and the physics are not that great like they advertised it...

After Greenwald told all this stuff with Pirelli, I thought thats the end of PC-Sims...

iRacing 2.0's new tire model I think makes all consul racers seem like a joke. Not dissing GT5 or PD, just my opinion. I don't think PC racers are in danger of anything from consul racers because of their fan base's need for watered down physics (the kind that work with a controller). Only thing threatening PC sims is funding maybe, as the number of people dedicated to such a thing is fewer than the casual racer who doesn't have hours upon hours to dedicate to slicing off milliseconds on a lap time and learning the ins and outs of actual racing.

On topic: after the spec 2 update the silhoutte view is actually enough for me to make the RGT quite enjoyable to drive.

That's the reason why PC sims and Console sims should never be compared.

If you're a car enthusiast you know what a Skyline is. And I'm sure people knew what a WRX before Gran Turismo. See here's the thing; yes Gran Turismo is popular, and it may expose some people to different aspects of the auto industry. You have to remember, however, that there are many people out there who don't play video games. GASP!! Why I am as shocked as you are! Go to a bookstore. You know one of those places where they have those things with pages and words printed on them? Sorry for the sarcasm, but some gamers act like books are akin to Kryptonite. If you go to the automotive section in the magazine department, you'll find a plethora of car mags. Motor Trend, Road and Track, Car and Driver, Hemmings, etc. Even Playboy has car reviews. And now people watch Top Gear on BBC America, and the US version on History Channel. There are other ways to learn about the auto industry besides Gran Turismo.
So because there are other ways means GT is not a way to learn of different cars? 👎

I didn't know what a WRX, EVO, Skyline, GTO (3000GT) or quite a few others were until GT1. And I already loved cars then, at the ripe old age of 14. ;)

Just because you may have heard of them before you started playing, doesn't mean everyone did.
Ironically, most of those cars were relatively unknown in the US before GT came around. Come to think of it, it was shortly after GT came out that the late 90's early 2000's rush of kids in imports came to be.

You should already know true WRX's, EVO's, Skyline's didn't exist in the U.S. until after GT2 came out. (Though the Skyline never)
Please refrain from referring to "underground" illegally imported cars, as that would display ignorance of the very definition of "underground".

Ironically, I bought a gameshark and never drove the cars. :dunce:
I have to assume they started modeling, before they got a full-blown "No" from Porsche.

I still think Porsche signed some form of long-term contract with EA though. Unless they're that greedy and stupid to demand unreasonable amounts of money to "have" their cars in a game.

I'd recommend PD going to RUF and make at least one premium car from every 911 generation, including the newest models. Then model Veyron and Veyron SS premium and use the correct sound for it instead of some V-10 one and the game is 99% complete concerning cars.

RT12 and Yellowbird in premium would be fantastic addition to the game.

If anything, this hurts porsche more than anyone else.
Not being in the game gran turismo puts them at a disadvantage for recognition with future drivers.

+1 from me.👍 Just note that it's not just GT - it's ANYTHING that's not EA, including the Forza series.

Porsche have been with EA for ages now (Porsche Challange on PS1) it is a shame, I'd love to get my hands on a 911 GT3RS :(

Yes, Porsche could probably take some of the blame but when did driving games get so popular? I'm guessing Porsche thought the deal with EA was pretty good then before you know GT1 came out (or just came out) and the grew and grew but the damage was already don for Porsche.

Hopefully it is ending soon, however I did hear a rumour about Porsche Challange 2 being released so............... :/

It's important to remember that locking up licensing is a major part of EA's business model. The reason EA Sports is an enormous behemoth in the gaming industry is because EA sought and won large licensing deals with many professional sports leagues. I think we are fortunate it is not worse in regards to automobile licenses.

If other companies started to use the same business model, would we really be any happier? The reason many of us like non-EA racing games is because they focus on quality over profit. To pursue exclusive deals would only serve to diminish that quality.

I don't see how this hurts Porsche. The company existed well before video games. Anybody who knows anything about cars will know the name Porsche. As far as kids getting excited about a WRX, they're how old do you think? When I was about 11 years old everyone of my classmates thought that the Pontiac Trans Am was the coolest car on wheels. :yuck:If you still think that at the age of 30, well I suggest you seek professional help. ;)

Having your cars in a game is basically advertising, which you get paid for. If a little kid plays a game, and thinks a Porsche is awesome, and loves it, it could actually sway his decision when he buys a car.

I think it's petty and shows that EA doesn't have much confidence in their product. Sony and Microsoft are pretty big rivals but GT5 still got to use Ferrari. EA needs to be boycotted. Total waste of the Porsche licence for them to have it. Their models are horrible looking, simple and the cars have the wrong proportions. Personally I'm doing my best to not buy anything from them at this point. GT5 should definitely block EA from certain brands and if Forza 4 can't have Porsche then EA shouldn't have Ferrari.

How did simulation racers like GT Legends and GTR2 get porsches? I think if you get some sore of deal with the FIA GT series, than you can feature the gt race cars?

It would have been via a sub license from EA, the same way Forza got them.

Really? I didn't know "little kids" are pulling down that kind of allowance these days.

You really think that Porsche's advertising strategy hinges on a video game? Seriously? Guys, get out of the house more.

Wow I didn't even know about that but that is utterly stupid, I don't care about the Pagani but I love Porsches. Need for Speed sucks compared to Gran Turismo and I never played Forza but it seems better than Need for Speed.

That is just an ignorant statement.
The gt series has sold over 30 million copies. Now, a lot of those might be repeat buyers, but take into consideration you will probably have friends, siblings, kids etc who play it also.
Porsche not being in the gt series means that tens of millions of people that could have been exposed to porsche's though gt but weren't. That is a HUGE number of potential buyers. Will a large percentage of those people buy a porsche? No.
But that is potentially tens of thousands of sales.
Not insignificant.

Oh please. First of all, it' SARCASM. Secondly, you know that the world did exist BEFORE video games, don't you? Oh golly gee, how on earth did Porsche ever survive all those years without video games for exposure? You really think that Porsche counts on a video game for exposure? IT'S PORSCHE. Anyone who knows ANYTHING about cars knows Porsche. People who play Gran Turismo are going to run out and buy a Porsche? Really? You think that Porsche sells that many cars? AND, you honestly think that many of the people who play Gran Turismo can AFFORD to buy one? Here's a news flash; Porsche only sells roughly 150,000 cars PER YEAR. Gee, that's far FEWER than people who play Gran Turismo. Now who's "ignorant"?

Don't be foolish and understand something; it's more important to Electronic Arts to have Porsche in their game, than it is for Porsche to be in their game.

It is brand awareness. Before GT1 , i didnt really know what a skyline was, and it turns out they got tons of performance potential , and are iconic to japanase cars.

You got the last part right... and Im willing to bet that Porsche will not renew the exclusive deal in 2012... and instead make a new deal with Sony for the PS3 and Microsoft for the Xbox and PC...

I agree that not all the people that plays Gran Turismo Games are going to buy a Porsche, but it is sure that some of them will, and what is better to be known around the world because this is not only the cars, the brand get a better position on the market and also all the merchandising will sell better, The Gran Turismo Games have better sells than any Need For Speed game ever had.

The thing here is I don't know how PD manage the licenses, if they pay to model the car on the game or if the Brand itself allows it. I feel is more the second because I heard that Ferrari allow PD to model their cars on the game, but how nows one thing for sure THERE IS NO OTHER SUBSTITUDE!!!! :)

If Porsche is not available yet :(, instead at least I'd like to see Ruf Premium models, Gemballas or TechArt (other Porsche tuners) but let see what PD have in mind for the next DLC.

You're missing a couple of things here.

I do like the implication that no game has ever influenced a car purchase. And that nobody playing GT could ever afford a Porsche.
Way to make drastic assumptions with no merit.👍

I'd go farther into detail, but you'll dismiss everything as "you play GT so you can never afford a $40K car. :dunce:
BTW, people on this very site own cars as expensive as Porsche's, and that's assuming nobody on this site already owns a Porsche.

You'd do well to "Don't be foolish and understand something" yourself, and that is: Nobody ever said Porsche needs video games to survive.
Feel free to quote someone actually saying that though.:sly:

BTW GT+FM = 75+ Million copies.

I honestly think Porsche could care less who's game they end up in. I mean they are still into the real racing circuit, and have been before video games were invented, and that's where the real sales come in. That old racing mantra "race on Sunday sell on Monday" still holds it's ground.

I would love to see a 917 and a 956 race car in the GT series someday, as would everyone else. But until EA finally loses so many sales from their less than exciting racing games and decides to focus on Madden NFL and such we might as well keep trying and convince Kaz to include more cars that should have already made it onto 5.

My thoughts exactly, a brand like Porsche doesn't need advertising or video games to sell itself.

@Hypertek Well said! Like Stefan Bellof's old Brun 956 C or Jacky Ickx 936 or Derek Bell's Rothmans 962!!! That would be Ammaazingggg!!!!!!!!! Also The Porsche GT1 that Mcnish drive to victory at Le Mans in 1998. Porsche's last overall victory at Le Mans.
