The NFS series has sold over 100 million copies and a new game gets released every year so I don't think porsche having an exclusive deal with EA is hurting their exposure

I would think it'd be better for Porsche to auction out liscence deals for each individual model throughout Porsche's history to these developers, rather than selling the entire brand exclusively to EA. Works quite luceratively and potentially no game, especially the majors titles like Forza and GT, would be left without a Porsche. Much more promotion of the brand this way... not that most GT players are looking for a Porche IRL, but at least they'd be within a broader spotlight amongst greater fan appreciation.

Maybe suggesting a joint effort between some of these major developers to entice Porche out of these exclusive deals would be too crazy to work!

But who knows what Porsches position is on the matter. Mabye they don't want their cars compared to the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini on more realistic terms. Maybe they've figured gamers aren't much of a target audience so they just sold off the rights to the highest bidder? Or maybe they don't feel like any game could do their brand as much justice as driving the real deal, so they said **** it and gave it to EA?

The only thing Porsche saw was how many copies NFS sells every year. Some times even two times per year. If this is a deal for an unlimited time we are screwed. Because the only way Porsche or EA will back out is if people stop buying NFS and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Apparently, Porsche's deal with EA, is lucrative enough to override the exposure in other games.

A wad of cash in the hand, must be worth more than bigger exposure in other games.

Still it seems archaic in the techno gadget info age, and seeing most young males first exposure to cars, by the numbers, is via GT or Forza games.

Therefore, I doubt it will last long.

hey why don't PD put Porsche in the next GT game or GT5 whats EA going to do about PD got Sony to back them up what does EA got no one

I personally think we should send some of gtplanet's best whingers to EA to sort things out, then the whingers have something worthwhile to whinge about which will actually benefit everyone else (I support the whole EA are greedy selfish T:censored:t's thing). Job Done :)

On this topic, I don't see it working well. EA is a spiteful company at times & they're not afraid to flex their "muscles" when other developers try to flex back. Look at Madden, bought completely until 2013. What's to stop EA from pulling similar maneuvers for NFS should PD/T10 try to sign deals that keep EA out of a brand?

Except EA has money & lots and lots of it. They don't need anyone to back them up. $300 million alone to buy the rights to the NFL for 7 years & another undisclosed amount to ESPN for the same time frame. I can not see Sony dropping that much money just for GT.

And despite their reputation, they have some of the smartest marketing people within' their company. Whilst people sit here on the forum conjuring up ways for PD/T10 to get a leap on EA through licensing, they have folks already planning the same thing. They are a company that tries (& succeeds) at times at staying 1 step ahead of the competition. They know what works & they know who to publish.

EA just ruin everything they touch full stop

+2

EA is an evil company that just re-hashes the same crap year on end, forcing people to buy the same game with mild alterations. That's one reason amongst many, why slightly mad studios bailed on them. They were gonna do shift3 but EA just wanted them to stick to the formula instead of going the more sim route.

Shame really, the only way to drive a Porsche is in some half assed unsupported game. Can't even play shift anymore because autolog is dead and you can't play the game unless you sign in. So because of sheer greed the consumer comes out feeling it the most, because the only way to enjoy the Porsche name is in some bland arcade game. Really doesn't do the marque justice jmho

I didn't know EA locked down the Huayra, I tought they were the only game at the moment to have it.

Havent checked Forza's track list though..

*Idea!* How about, someone here writes Porsche a letter on behalf of everyone here @ GTP with a proposal to cancel their exclusive license w/EA because frankly their absense in GT and Forza is sorta hurting their brand awareness. And because the graphics and physics in Shift are so friggin' beyond horrendous, it's not doing the poor 911s any justice. :(

It won't matter one way or another because Porsche is a household name among anyone who is a car guy. Game system or not. You say the name James Dean and you automatically think Porsche. You watch Grand am racing and the 2014 24 hrs of Lemans (LMP1) you will see a Porsche.

In fact Porsche is probably one of the few car companies out there that doesn't need recognition through a video game.

brainfade
My thoughts exactly, a brand like Porsche doesn't need advertising or video games to sell itself.

No they don't "need" it, but it sure as heck would help, I guarantee.

@montecarlo87 I bet all of you by the time that Le Mans season 2014 rolls around, Porsche will be in GT5 (or GT6) because Porsche is the most successful sports car racing brand the history of sports car racing. Wining Le Mans over all 18 times (JUST the factory team) So on that note, I hope they will go to a game with REAL racingfans instead of nitrous burning "blinged out" stupid Lambos with huge rims being chased by the police.

That is probably the one thing that does bug me about the idea that they wouldn't want to show themselves in a game like GT. And stick with a company that by all rights glorifies illegal activities. While EA plays to the fast and furious crowd, who think what they see in the movies is real racing. PD works hard to show what real sanctioned racing is all about. One has to wonder WWFPD? (What would Ferdinand Porsche do?)

You got the last part right... and Im willing to bet that Porsche will not renew the exclusive deal in 2012... and instead make a new deal with Sony for the PS3 and Microsoft for the Xbox and PC...

I'm just hoping that Porsche will someday be in my GT garage.

 Some people see it as 'EA meany-pants!' They take Porsche from me!'

PD should really use the licences they do have, since they do have quite a few, and some manufacturers have 1 or 2 cars in the game. For example, the only premium FIATs are 2 500s. Why not a 500 Abarth, or some Punto Abarths.

I don't know why I'm surprised to see multiple people cheering for EA (this guy, vaxx, stephen.) There are always people on the wrong side of an argument.

We get it. It's good business to be a complete ***hole. It's why the world is a bad place for a majority of humanity. I just wish it didn't have to reach into this industry... this GENRE at least. The games produced, their quality etc etc aside.

Sorry guys, don't take me too seriously. I'm just really frustrated that arguably the most important auto marque in the history of motorsports is now forced out of the two primary games that mean anything to the throngs of true motorsports fan-gamers around the world. A true kick in the nethers by a stereotypical "big evil corporation."

It'd be amazing if PD and T10 somehow solved this with EA, to see this play out gentlemen style ... and not dog-eat-dog style. But there are probably too many lawyers and bean counters that are dooming us. Us as in people who can't stomach EA's garbage games.

shift 2 and the NFS games are great fun and competive we shouldnt hate on them its part of the buisness its legal i got no beef with them now back to spec 2.0 lol

LOL do you know what happened with the Shift 2 developers? SMS screwed EA off after Shift2 and created a new way to develop games at the WMD portal, actually they are developing C.A.R.S.
Anyway if you want some Porsche action go for rFactor and Gtr2 mods.

I in no way support EA. They need to work on their games, which are only bought because of good marketing and good car lists.

We got Zondas in the game, and RUF subsitutes, why doesn't PD go after other Porsche tuners as an alternative. Also, NFS does have japanese cars, R34, R35, 350z, 370, mazda RX-7, RX-8, i reckon if there were atleast some premium RUF's or other Porsche tuning companies, the community, could be that little bit more happy.

RUFs are in game because is the only tuner featuring Porsches which also have a MANIFACTURER license.
RUFs havenn't a Porsche chassis number built in.

My reaction is: are Porsche commercials sure their brand is well promoted if licensed only by EA?

Good.
-1 for Porsche, in CAPITALS

Ferrari learned the lesson being out of GT4.

The thing with Porsche is they win no matter what happens... when NFS dies out because undoubtedly the market is evolving pro simulation, Porsche will just be absorbed by the next biggest check - and this is something I would think could effect GT in the future if T10/Microsoft dropped the bills and took on Porsche exclusively if there was some fallout with EA. This would be the only thing that I could say FM would have over GT, and I dread that day.

But I digress from that arguement and conclude with the on-going observation that companies like EA are playing a cheap game here - but then it irks me that Porsche is really no better. I almost don't even want to see them in a GT game. Would rather see a Gemballa workaround now... but then again theres a fat elephant in the room beating a dead horse with a EA liscence standing in the way.

Wow, I actually agree with you on something, whoda thunk it?

Porsche sold their exclusive rights away to the arcade of arcade games, and that's a big part of the reason I just don't care if Porsche is ever in GT or FM.
In a way, I see it as more Porsche's fault then EA's.

This might e reason why Porsches are not included:

Here's a review too if anyone is interested:

From memory, it was the best NFS game to date and I really enjoyed playing it. It might be why Porsche is EA exclusive license, but seeing how since then EA hasn't done any leap in design and physics (honestly, just out of my memory, but that game had better physics on PC than any NFS sequel after that inclused some Porsche) it would be a reasonable suspicion they won't be doing it again.

As for not having RUF updated in GT, I'd hazard a guess it's because RUF managed to slip in the series when EA wasn't paying attention, but was not updated due to threats to RUF from EA side even though Porsche doesn't allow RUF to badge it as Porsche in the same way Daimler Corp. doesn't allow badging of Brabus.

Anywho, I'd like to see them in GT5 too.

Bring back memories that game was so awesome

Just so you know, the Pagani Huayra exclusive EA license was just until the end of 2011. Forza 4's January DLC pack includes it (and was released last night).

That's how fast things can happen when exclusive deals end....

I'd add to that how, when that happens, Turn10 AND PD should create free Porsche DLC for all to celebrate "freedom" from EA "chains" :):):)👍👍👍

Since RUF was added to Forza 4 (when they lost Porsche), and includes a bunch of brand new modern RUF cars, I don't think this statement is true.
