GT6 crashing PS3

Ever since the last GT6 update my PS3 crashes while running GT6. Usually it's after about 10 minutes, but sometimes it can occur in less than half that time and other times much longer, such as today where it occurred after the second running of the Sierra de Andalucia rally, upon clicking to proceed after the 'new record' message.

When it occurs, the screen goes blank the PS3 power light remains green. If I power down the PS3, using the power button, it usually needs to sit awhile before a re-start will produce an output, though sometimes it seems I can expedite this by unplugging the power cord for several seconds.

The PS3 is up to date and GT6 is at the latest release. Any clues as to how to resolve this? Would uninstalling and reinstalling GT6 resolve it? If so, is there a way I can save the data then reload after reinstalling GT6?

Thanks for your help.

thats the 1st I've heard of it i haven't had a single problem with GT6 and the updates. There could be your PS3 console or the condition of your GT6 disk

GT6 completely ruined my PS3. I had the game from launch (pre-order) and almost every patch introduced more strain on the system. I kept my PS3 clean and dust free, but the fan was always going flat out when I played GT6. Was the only game I had a problem with. Also I could hear the system constantly reading from the disc while playing. Eventually my blu-ray drive died. I got a new one and it was fine for a bit, but then the system developed a problem that I believe was ram related. It just couldn't handle playing the game, and would crash a lot. Eventually it would crash every time I tried to play GT6.

Edit: I never had a problem with other games, and in the end GT6 was the only game I played on PS3. I think the game is just a bit too much for the PS3.

My PS3 is about 2 years old and I've run GT5 and, shortly after its release, GT6 on it through out that time. Also run Grid Autosport and use the PS3 for Netflix. No problems until just recently and it only occurs with GT6 - everything else runs fine.

My first thought was overheating and, indeed, I've seen a number of reports of that, but I'm not really sure. As mentioned in my first post, when it occurs the screen goes blank and there is no sound and, if it's in the middle of a race, the PS3 controller shakes a couple of seconds later, as if the car has crashed. Power light stays green. This has made me wonder if, instead of over heating, it's a software crash issue.

Given that I've run GT6 without a problem until recently, it doesn't seem as if it's because GT6 is 'too much' for the PS3 - if that were the case I'd have expected the problem to occur from the outset.

Could it be caused by a data file issue? Is there a way I can restore the game data?

There's every chance it could be corrupt files if the console's been crashing on you. Especially with it being just GT6 causing the problems.

To reinstall the game data, go to Game, press up to Game Data Utility, open it and then triangle on GT6's game data to get to delete it. Start the game and let it update again.

If you have any problems doing it, let us know.

Make sure to not delete your save file.

Problem solved! - It was the HDMI cable.
The way the PS3 was acting it looked to me like a software crash, except I noticed this morning that the screen went blank for a second, then returned - that didn't seem like a software crash.
So, thinking of things to try, I connected a different HDMI cable and have just finished about an hour of racing with no problem.

I'm also having the same issues, but my play station 3 system is bran new (3 months old) and when i am in a open lobby it takes approximately 5 minutes to join it and it takes about the same for switching my cars. This all eventually leads to my system freezing. I was playing yesterday and i froze, roughly about 15 times. I tried to delete my music and photos but that did not work unfortunately.
