GT6 Disc Hard To Read for PS3

Hi, it's been awhile since I stopped by, but as I've recently gotten back into GT6 (Holy moley, it took forever to update and install all of the patches, lol), I still have disc read issues with my PS3. Although, once the disc reads OK, I have no other issues and love all of the changes they have implemented! I'm slowly working my way back online as well, but I have a ton of cars to tune first and need to re-learn a bit about hosting and playing in open lobbies. ;)

I searched, but didn't find a definitive answer. I've had this problem since I first purchased the Anniversary Edition. My PS3 just doesn't want to read the disc upon insertion and sometimes after a long pause, the disc transport mechanism makes a "clunking" sound and sometimes reads the disc after that and other times, still doesn't.

I can always get it to work, eventually, by ejecting/re-inserting the disc, but I was hoping that someone could steer me to a thread or two that might permanently resolve this issue. I noticed that I'm not the only one who has experienced this and I just want to understand if it is disc-related or PS3-related. I also understand that there is a downloadable version of the game, but I obviously do not want to re-purchase the game.

Also, is there any official word from PD on this disc read issue?

Thanks for any and all assistance!

Well, I guess that could be true, but then again, I would expect the issue to happen with any disc that I put in or at least intermittently happen with other discs. There are absolutely no other issues with any other game discs or Blu-Rays that I frequently use.

Thanks for the reply though and I'll certainly take your advice under advisement, but I suspect that with the amount of people that I saw posted with this issue when I searched, I'll have to go back and read more and see if it is PS3-related or not.

Your laser is shot.

That's not necessarily true ryz. The problem arises because GT6 is a dual layer disc, unlike GT5. I had this very same problem when I first bought GT6 upon release. There is a thread about the issue that I posted in, but its probably well buried by now. Like I said, I had this problem way back and even went through 3 discs at the time before I finally diagnosed the problem. I went through hell the first few months of trying to get the game to load, sometimes up to 10 or 12 tries. After playing regularly though and my PS3 reading and saving the game as I went along, the problem went away and I haven't had a problem since. For whatever reason, some PS3's have issues reading a dual layer game. My PS3 is a super slim and was only 3 months old at the time so I knew it wasn't the laser. There is some information on this also if you Google "PS3 read issues of dual layer discs" or something like that. The only advice I can give you is just try and weather the storm out and see if it eventually goes away like it did for me. You can also try setting your PS3 on its end as that is what I did for awhile which seemed to work.

Here is another thread discussing the same issue.

Google search for you also.

Well we agree about the laser Cargo!

But seriously, I had the same problem that the op had, and I tried standing it up as you said it worked for a while...
Replaced the dual laser and it was fine.MMultiple times btw.
As I have said before, there is something about GT that kills the dual laser.

Only time will tell, good luck SpeedRacer.

If it dies completely, you could always download the game from PSN. Pretty sure keeping your save file isn't going to be a problem.

That's what I did, I've not had a problem since.

Even though I want to shoot myself for giving them $120. GTA PS4 upgrade is a different story, even with its bugs. :sly:
