just watched a game play video of willow springs, and thankfully the driver was crap and he drove off course a bunch of times, and i am happy to see that there are no invisible walls anymore, i know this not a game changing feature, but iv always hated it when i touch the dirt when coming out of a corner hot and i slam into a wall that doesn't exist.

i can only hope this applies to every track...

It would be great if it was for every track, it's so unrealistic otherwise. What really gets me is that you can even damage your car when hitting them, & that's 7 kinds of stupid!

Great! I can relive my turn 5 crash on a motorcycle, in a car! Where I ended up in the middle of the infield... :/

oh ok. that suckz, there goes my hopes of online baja events lol.

expected that though...
I was hoping for the invisible barriers to be gone completely and this is merely a sign of it. I agree with you that those invisible barriers are annoying and take away from the immersion in many senses. Bounce off an invisible barrier instead of going off into the part that isn't part of the layout/track feels wrong and makes me feel not as immersed as I would be if the barriers weren't there.

There has to be something to keep people from doing doughnuts that qualify as laps.

Looking at the track, what is to keep people from just running in circles?

hmmm.....maybe ... just maybe they could add something like an "invisible wall", it acts like a normal wall except you cannot see it with the naked eye..

in other news, i just got my P plates. like an hour ago.

Well, in GT5 if you shortcut the Top Gear track that lap wouldn't count, so PD has a mechanism already.

Isn't that what we already have?
And I see your new here, so try not to double post(making to posts in a row).

This ^ ^

The 'invisible wall' is still there, but it's no longer 5 meters from the side of the track. Watch the video again in large screen and you'll see a variation of the graphics off-track between 10 & 15 meters out. This is where I would assume the 'invisible wall' to be. As Allek said, PD already have the mechanics in place to stop you doing 'donut' laps.

Invisible walls are always lame, its nice when they can find an alternative or at least a way to dress it up and hide the wall (such as in some games where you have pits you fall down or instant-death areas, etc).
Not really sure what choice they have with a track like this, especially when they're trying to re-create it realistically.
Maybe if they made the invisible walls a little less blunt and more spongey or something it would be a bit less jarring.

But really you shouldn't be going to so far off track anyway, it isn't really the point of this game ;)

Certainly I'd like to see the invisible walls further away from the track so they aren't so easy to reach. And it appears they are further away now. Its fair enough for graphical limitations, etc but the Top Gear Test Track in particular had some ridiculously short areas before invisible walls.

Pretty easy really - sector checkpoints. If the player hasn't completed sector 1 of the lap, then continue timing them. Of course it needs to be slightly more complex than that with detecting short-cutting, etc. But simply stopping people reversing over the finish line is easily stopped by this and probably a lot of racing games the past 20 years have done it in a similar way.

I'm hoping that PD has applied this to all the tracks.
and yes, you shouldn't really be going that far off the track, but every now and then it happens, even to the best drivers.

To a point, but at least with regards to the Top Gear Test Track - the textures and everything were all there so there isn't much in terms of graphics rendering to save. Its really about restricting what the player can see and do - making it far easier to ensure the player cannot get to places they shouldn't or fall through the track.
If you define the area that the player can access, you can just focus on making sure that area works and looks correct. When you have large areas of environment to access, it makes it orders of magnitude harder to ensure that its bug-free.
And yes, you can get unusual bugs even in basic areas of grass. Nothing is simple and easy in computer software :)

i was making a joke, and also i joined in mid 2010 i just never posted in the forums, only the comments section.

I have driven on this track in a GT6 demo. The car was getting respawned back on the track after ending up too far off the road.
...However, I've been playing an older demo, which had no Bathurst.

I imagine with the new 100km by 100km area to make a course with the new editor will have allowed them to make the entire track free, even surrounding areas. I would like to think at least. Here's to hoping the Top Gear Test Track is going to be completely open

Top Gear Test track will not be in GT6. And the course maker is most likely 25km by 25km.
